A spring in her step, Sabine trotted along the edge of the lake. For whatever reason she had decided to linger here. Maybe it was the cheery atmosphere or the near constant birdsong that kept her from leaving, or maybe it was all because deep down Sabine was supposed to be Snow White and here she could finally be who she was destined to be. She could sing and prance through the woods, calling the birds to her and using them as substitute eyes.

Ah, who was she kidding. It was the abundance of coyote kills.

Wise enough not to challenge her, the unfortunate coyote would simply back off and let her have whatever it had brought down or found. All she had to do was bristle and look like she would give chase if they questioned her superiority. Maybe it was her size or maybe she was that good of an actress, but none had tested her. In return she ignored them.

It was one such kill she was after this evening. She'd eaten her fill of it once already and left the rest to the coyotes. It was an elk, so she strongly doubted they'd killed it, and from what she could tell there was plenty left of it. Her nose told her it was close. Any second now and it would be at her paws.

you're the one now,
turn me on

He had walked for days now, wandering with no purpose. The young brute was bored, and hungry - but then again, when was he not hungry? He had a meal just this morning, but he could never quench that hunger deep within the pit of his belly. Once again he was on the search for food, it was a never ending search, one after another, filling his gut and feeding his body in order to remain in top condition. He would turn 2 soon, in just a couple more seasons. He could feel it, soon he would need something else than just food - but for the time being, breeding was the last thing on his mind.

He could smell a carcass, and he was following that scent. With his size, he could easily take down his own good sized prey, but, anyone who was clever enough would know that eating something that was already killed was by far the better choice. Save your energy, replenish it, and fight another day at full strength rather than wasting it on unnecessary hunting. Heavy paws flattened the earth below him as he quickly closed the gap between him and the elk, only a snarl was needed to scare off the coyotes, leaving the carcass for him to pick at.

He only managed a couple mouthfuls before someone else had arrived on the scene. Ruby eyes turned toward the approaching figure - he'd defend the carcass if necessary, if they wanted some, they would wait.

A stench on the breeze pulled a moment of hesitation from the giantess. Surely the carcass wasn't stinking already! But no, that wasn't it. There was a scent under the stink, an undeniably masculine smell. It took Sabine a moment to place the smell, but when it clicked, she wrinkled her nose. It reminded her of the weird little urchin from the ship. What was his name again...Cesar? Really, did the men in this land ever bathe? How hard was it to devote a few minutes to personal hygiene every once in awhile? Or, if that was too much to ask, how about a swim? Yuck!

The stink didn't slow Sabine down. Her scent was all over the elk and while it was entirely possible the brute was nose-blind thanks to his reek, she strongly doubted he was unaware of her claim to it. "Eat your fill," she commanded offhandedly, her joking tone dry, "I can share." Of course, if he had a problem with sharing she would be more than happy to contest his claim. She'd been here first.

Moseying up to the kill, Sabine aimed to stand at the farthest she could be from him while still being able to eat. It wasn't manners that dictated her actions, rather, all she wanted to do was eat while subjecting herself to the least amount of BO possible.

The one approaching smelled like a part of the carcass he was eating. She must have claimed it before he arrived. Too bad, he thought. He wasn't about to back away no matter the claims, there were no laws or regulations out here; it was a literal dog eat dog world for a matter of fact. he let her approach at first, ruby eyes glaring at her walking corpse with his muzzle deep into the liver of the beast beneath his paws. As she spoke, the corners of his lips turned in a curl, a vicious smile before lifting his head just a bit over the kill, blood and saliva oozing from his maw before the pink muscle with the cavern of his maw licked it clean for speech.

Then you won't mind waiting until I'm done before you feast. His deep baritone vocals sang from the toxic lungs in his chest. Unlike you, I'm not too fond of sharing. He didn't move at this point, his head simply hovered above the slowly decaying beast, something he had wished to eat as much of before that time of decomposition came. No, he wasn't fond of sharing. He was a selfish son of a bitch who didn't mind fighting in order to keep what was now newly claimed as his, in fact, he would love it. He was young, brash and hungry after all. Perhaps even a little stupid, seeing as she had a few years over his - but that didn't matter to him.

Staking claim over the corpse, he chose to step onto it, bones cracking under his weight as he demonstrated he now claimed the corpse. If she was so intent on keeping it, and if it was that precious to her, perhaps she would not have left it alone. It was free for grabs the moment she turned her back on it.

His words grew a giggle from her. Oh, he was a funny one, wasn't he? How cute! It almost made up for his stink. "Ah, a funny boy," she murmured, "I love funny boys." Perhaps she should take him with her. He could be her jester.

She could hear the bones of the carcass groan under his weight as he leaned over the kill. Unperturbed by his attempt to put together an intimidating display, Sabine remained where she was. An amused smile pulled at her lips, but beneath it lurked wicked intent. He was a punk kid, a smelly punk kid, but that wouldn't stop her from putting him on the ground.

Her tone sweet, she simpered back, "If that's the case, sweetheart, then you and I are going to have a problem." She had half a mind to lean down and take a bite from the kill, but in doing so she would open herself up for an attack. Instead she straightened to her full height. "I'll give you an ultimatum: piss off or," she paused a tick for emphasis, "I'm going to give you a beating to remember me by." Standing on the carcass put his head well over hers, but it also made his footing uneven. Already she had a game plan. Now all she needed was a spark. The first strike was his.

She gave him an ultimatum, something that never worked for him to begin with. He simply smiled a crooked grin before leaping off of the carcass, reassuring his footing before circling around the woman, broad shoulders sliding under the thick pelt upon his back in two rolling mountains. Then we have a problem. Pulling back his lips in a vicious grin, yellowing fangs exposed with his lips turned skyward in a curl. His hackles rose in defense and excitement, while his claws bug into the dirt below with every twitch. His tail swung low and slow, protecting his hind quarters - while his legs were just bent enough to keep him grounded.

The bristling fur on the behemoth's back rose to a peek, hunching his back while he waited. if she truly wanted to threaten him, then perhaps she would come rather than talk about with empty threats. Of course she seemed to have realized that if she bent down to take a bite, she would be at his mercy for a sucker punch; and so he waited. Firmly planted on the ground, ruby eyes watching her every move. He'd attack without warning if given the chance, otherwise, he would gladly stand here and wait for her threat to come true.

With hind legs prepared and coiled, in a moments notice he could spring forward and close the distance in a flash... it was only a matter of time. Instead, he chose to be patient, wait and watch for some kind of opening.

She could hear him begin to move and, grinning, Sabine playfully frisked the other direction. In doing so she kept the kill between them. Funny how he'd been so eager to growl and posture, but not so eager to jump into a fight when challenged. While it may not have been his intention, by trying to circle her the silly boy had stepped away from the kill. "Oh, what a good boy," she praised even though she was well aware he hadn't moved to let her eat first. It was hardly her fault he was an idiot. By moving he'd unwittingly given her more cards. Now the kill was not only in her possession, but it was laying between them longways which meant she would hear him coming long before he could land an attack. He'd either have to go around to get to her or over, and the latter was yet another card in her favor.

Her grin grew predatory, the unspoken challenge clear as she bent down to tear into the rump of the elk. It was a dare. He'd given her space to eat and she intended to eat whether he liked it or not, so he could either stand there and wait as he had been oh so happy to let her do, or he could do something about it. The giantess had meant every word she'd said. For the hell of it she'd break his legs and make him watch her eat.

Or not, she mused. It might be kind of nice to have a pet. Of course she'd make him bathe before she took him anywhere, but the idea of taking him to her siblings and letting him play jester with all that bluster would amuse her greatly.
