au revoir
So many thoughts plagued Valeria’s mind as she wearily pushed on. She was exhausted from her travels, being so young when she had finally left home, and she couldn’t help but feel the need to rest every few hours. Was she becoming old? The ivory girl certainly hoped not as she scouted out a place to sleep. The moon was high over her head suggesting that it was late at night, which she could use to her advantage. Emerald green eyes would search the evergreens but they cast such a shadow that she could scarcely see a thing. Great. The girl shared her dreary thoughts with herself as she continued along, her head low and her tail refusing to wag.
The young Slayer girl had been careful every step of the way. She had taken precautions to hide her tracks in case her father decided to break his promise to let her wander on her own. She had warned her mother that she might not return and told her not to come searching. The woman cloaked in white was ready for a new life away from her overprotective parents. Her mother had seemed to respect her choice, which made the young girl curious as to why she would allow that. Her mother had always smothered her. In fact, both of her parent’s reactions to her request to leave seemed to be underneath their character. She would have written it off as them accepting the fact that she was grown up now, but she was not naïve.
It was so strange, to think that she dreaded being away from the shadow of her siblings. Part of her wanted to return, but she knew better than to return after so long. Surely her parents would read her the riot act, or even worse, they might refuse to take her back. The lone huntress was by herself for once.
He halted suddenly, his nose raised to the air, smelling something other than rock, snow and tree bark. But the scent that reached his nose was not that of prey - it was another wolf. He wondered who else was wandering under the cold moon, and found himself drawn to the scent. Xephyris nearly didn't see her in the shadows of the trees, her snowy frame blending in with the surrounding white. Movement was the only thing that gave her away. He slowly padded closer with his tail lifting into the air, having no intention of startling the woman, but intent on meeting her.
"Moonlit greetings, maiden," he said in a low, rumbling tone as he approached her, silver eyes scanning over her frame, "What is a fine young lady such as yourself doing out here all alone?" The words spilled from him without much thought. He had no idea if he would offend or frighten the green-eyed lady, for he was unpracticed in his social communications. But for some reason he hoped she would not find his nature too abrasive. He'd never had much interest in what others thought, but tonight felt a little different, and his ears perked in anticipation of what she would say in response to his approach.
