There were signs, ever since he woke up some few days ago. The sun had seemed a little brighter, the day a little better. Even the herbs he had wandered around to pick had seemed fresher. That could easily be blamed on the changing season, but something...was telling him something. His eyes always seemed to venture up to the sky at certain moments, watching as birds would fly in the direction he knew Abaven was. For a boy who spent his life with his eyes on the ground, turning them to the sky was odd. Something was telling him something...and it was growing too large to ignore. He had to go home, he had to check up on his brothers. Something was happening! It would be easy to blame this on his anxiety, his paranoia, but he...felt like it wasn't.

So he bounded, as fast as his incredibly awkward paws could. A year into his life and he still looked like some gawky teenager, and he was pretty sure he always would. His paws were a little too large, his legs a little too long, the rest of him a little too skin and bone. He had some muscle to him, some mass, but it wasn't very obvious. His body percentage was nearly nill, yet he was healthy in some way. Just...awkward. Incredibly and embarrasingly awkward. He didn't fall nearly as much as he used too, but he still tripped when he moved too quickly. Unless something depended on his agility, which, today seemed too. He moved with an odd elegance, not tripping once as he ventured from the cold north towards his home, panting and taking breaks whenever he needed too. Starling was certainly not one for agility, and he would have to work on that if he wanted to be there for emergencies. Emergencies didn't wait untill you caught your breath!

With burning lungs he bounded towards his pack's border before suddenly...freezing. Sky blue eyes grew so wide as a very very familiar scent touched his nose, twisted the gears in his mind as he shuddered to a stop, paws skidding in the earth. ""Padre?" He whispered, the accent returning to his tongue so fluidly. He stared at the lands he knew so very well, his eyes wide. They began to burn, sting and grow wet as he stood there on the border, his father's scent so strong. Had he been home long? He must have, if he had only just returned, he wouldn't smell this strong. Star's little heart felt heavy with that knowledge, his head slowly lowering as the emotions battled within him. For one, he was beyond excited. Bass was home! But for another...why..

Why hadn't he...come for Starling?

He let out a loud sigh, tired paws dragging himself back to his den at a slow pace. He was so tired, ever since he had come back he had no time for anything at all. Fixing up Abaven was at the top of his list, as well as setting aside time for Wren and his kids. Bass longed to make a trip up North to see Starling, but it was just too far away right now. He couldn't even think about leaving for that long to make it all the way up there and back in more than just a pawful of days, and as much as it killed him, he stayed. But when he reached the den, the winds shifted and carried a very familiar scent to him. Starling? Was he just imagining it, something that his mind drew up from his thoughts? Ignoring the need of a nap, he turned towards the border. Before long he broke into a run, racing towards his son. Why was he paused at the very cusp of his home? He was allowed back in, no matter what. He didn't pause long enough to see that he was upset, skidding to a stop just before him as he picked up his front limb and tried to wrap it around him, hugging the boy close to his chest. "Oh, mio figlio, mia Starling. Come Mi sei mancato." He said softly, bending down to wrap his head around the base of Starlings. He wasn't trying to suffocate the boy, but it had been so long since he had seen him. Ever so slowly he pulled back, now realizing that he didn't quite look himself. Bass hesitated, putting his paw back down on the earth as his head tilted to the side. "Cosa c'è che non va? Stai bene?" Bass' hackles started to rise slightly, lips twitching as he got prepared to fight off whatever made his son upset. Little did he know that it was by his own mistake that Star was like this.

Starling had been staring at the ground, his eyes intense as if he wanted to drill holes in the earth. And for a moment he almost thought he could, with how his mind was whirling. He tilted his head up when he heard the sound of paw steps, and for one brief moment he was terrified, as if he had tresspassed on his own land. The second he saw Bass though, he blinked before yelping as his father grabbed him for a deep, nearly bone crushing hug. He blinked over wide blue eyes before a gentle smile touched his lips and he turned to bury his nose in his father's soft white fur. "Mi manchi ,padre ...faccio ancora." He whispered lightly, shifting back so he could look at his father more clearly. His eyes were wet, stinging as he smiled up at him, his chest tight with emotion. Bass was back! That meant everything had to go back to normal....right. "Come è stato il tuo viaggio?" He said softly before suddenly things shifted. Bass let go of him and Starling too a step back to create a touch more space between himself and his father. Sky blue eyes would grow wider as he saw the aggression coat his father, and he quickly looked behind himself in a moment of panic that something had followed him. But when Bass asked what was wrong, Star looked back, confusion coating his features for a few seconds before a small smile touched his lips. His father had just been worried? Overly..concerned? "Niente ... Ho appena perso te è tutto . Lei non fosse venuto per me, così io ... venuto per te !" His words smooth on his tongue as he smiled timidly up at his father, shifting slightly on large paws. He had grown in the season, but he didn't seem to put on the mass he needed to make his...body seem far less gawky than it was. He seemed to be cursed with this frame...but he had finally touched the maximum on his height, matching his father. They could meet eye to eye now, even if Starling often shrunk down in fear. "Da quanto tempo ... sei stato indietro ?"
