Starling had made it a point that morning to stop by his father's den and request for Bass to accompany him on his herb gathering for the day. He wanted to spend time with Bass, but since they both kept themselves so busy it was rare for them to have more than a conversation. It had been a long time since their last Italian lesson, but Starling barely needed it much any more. He could hold a good conversation and he was getting better by the day. It was his escape from his incessant stutter, his way of feeling normal and for saying what was on his mind without anyone to understand. It was his way of speaking to his family, and know that he wouldn't feel stupid by tripping over his words.

He kept himself so busy, as much as he could. If it wasn't herb hunting he was training, if it wasn't training he was learning...if he wasn't learning, he was relaxing and more often than not that got interrupted in some way or another. So he had invited his father to join him while he searched and gathered herbs for his store, so that they could be spend time together, so they could talk and, maybe, so Bass could see what Starling could do.

He followed after Starling, a sunken look on his face as he followed his son. It had been two nights after Allen had left with Nona and the pups, and he hadn't told anyone about it. He tried to act as normal as possible around Star, but he was pretty sure that the young man could pick up on his heavy heart. He had hopped that this outing with the healer would be good for him, get him out of his den and away from the rotting feelings that tried to drag him down. Shaking himself, he picked up his pace and nuzzled Star's scruff. "Allora, cosa stiamo cercando, esattamente?" He asked. Bass wasn't too into herbs, something that Starling knew very well. But the brown and white boy was pretty much dead set on involving him in some way. Not that he could really complain, he didn't get to spend enough time with his kids one on one. And with their siblings coming soon, he had a feeling that all their lives would be very different.

Golden eyes looked around, looking at all the green things around him. Any one of these things could be an herb and he really wouldn't have any idea. He could be stepping on one right now and not know the difference. He smirked softly, it was a good thing that his pack had healers, because he would be a terrible wolf to deal with boo boos. Shove some dirt into it, right? Cause that's pretty much all he knew.

The young Destruction trotted along the bay, his nose towards the ground and his eyes peeled. He tried to stay busy, because there was only so much time before winter and he had to find as much as he could right now, but that didn't mean he didn't notice things. He knew right away that Bass wasn't a happy camper, and at first he had assumed it was because the activity Starling had chosen had to do with hunting. But as the day wore on, he knew it was something else. Something stronger, heavier....something bad. He wouldn't bring that up now, if he could help it. So when he heard the gentle words of his father he would tilt his head up, glancing over his shoulder at Bass. "calendula, altea e trillum se possiamo trovare un po'. trillum aiuterà mamma durante la sua nascita." He said easily, turning his nose back towards the ground. He would remain silent for a moment, before he smiled, his eyes landing on the very yellow color of a Marigold plant. Without a word he quickly trotted towards the plant and began to dig it up by the roots. With a hum, he'd glance towards his father, a small smile on his lips. "Vuoi parlarne, padre?" He asked softly, turning his eyes back to the plant as he very delicately began to pull them up by the roots, and placed them on the earth without so much as bruising the stem.

Starling explained what they were looking for, but he just eyed him. What was the point in asking if he didn't even know what they looked like? Nodding numbly, he moved along beside the boy and paused when he dug up some flower thing. Starling was good with these herbs, and Finch collected them as well. He was pretty sure that hers was more of a collection than an actual use though. So he just sat down when he started to dig it up. Ears flickered back as Star asked if he wanted to talk about it, causing the older man to shuffle on his paws slightly. "Allen e la sua famiglia lasciarono il gruppo. Detto ho cambiato troppo, e non ero d'accordo con le cose che stavo ... Pianificazione." He tried to keep his voice as monotone as possible, but it was hard to keep the lingering sadness from his vocals. Allen was one of his oldest friends, and had even run Abaven when he went on his trip. But now... he was gone. "E che lascia Abaven senza un Vor di nuovo." Bass' words were a bit slower, eyes watching the younger man's reaction to the news. Besides Harmony who had just returned to them, Starling was the wolf with the most training and knowledge of herbs, despite his age.

Starling would continue to fuss with the plant, waiting for Bass to speak. Sometimes it was better to have conversations like this, where they weren't talking face to face and it was nice...and calm. But when Bass spoke, it was something that Starling was not expecting. His head jolted up from the earth, dirt caked along his nose as he stared at his father with large sky blue eyes. For a moment he was silent, trying to read from Bass' expression. He could tell, easily that Bass was trying to keep his sadness on a downlow. His jaw clenched and his eyes shifted to the side as he searched for something to say. Allen had been there Starling's entire life, he was as close to the family as any of Star's aunts and uncles. Pain would rip through him at the thought of Allen gone, and his children. But something had to have happened, there had to have been a reason. So he slowly looked back up at his father, swallowing slightly to try and rid his voice of the sadness he felt. "Pianificazione?" He questioned gently, shifting to paw at the flowers he had gathered. He wasn't sure what to say, really. "Mi...dispiace, voi due sembrava davvero vicino." He said gently, looking up at Bass again with a small, sad half smile. But when his father spoke again, slow and with intention, Starling's blue eyes would widen slightly. Was this...was Bass offering Starling the chance to raise in the ranks? He sat on that thought for a moment, turning quickly back to the flowers at his paws. Healing was his everything, it was his destiny and the thing he had excelled at. Sure, perhaps he wasn't a fighter like Lark, but he was trying to be more knowledgable, more outgoing. He wanted to be better. "Se...non avete nessuno..." He said softly, hesitantly. He didn't know how much he could push this, if he was even qualified. "Mi sono allenato molto..." He trailed off then, looking up at his father and offering a small, embarrased smile. He had been training a lot, endlessly, and he had a slew of new teachers and students...his entire life was healing. It was his devotion, and he wouldn't mind having the title to back that up...

At the sharp turn of Starling's head, the Azat tried not to flinch from the boy. Allen had been there forever, since Bass himself was only a year old. And now, to just have him gone was... well it felt like there was a big gaping hole in Bass' heart. And all over one stupid thing. He was worried even more about Nona and the pups, all three had been ill for months now. To be torn away from pack lands and out into the wild could very well be a death sentence. He just hoped that wherever they had settled, they they were safe. Without borders and other wolves to protect you... Bass didn't know how anyone slept at night. He would be up watching over his children, making sure that they were all still there. Even though that they were yearlings now, it didn't lessen his protective nature at all. In fact, it made it a bit worse, considering that they could now get into even more things.

Starling took a moment to compose himself, but it was too late. Bass knew his kids too well, and he understood the boys hurt. He also couldn't help but smirk at the dirt covered maw of the boy, reaching out to wipe it away with a single paw. When he was satisfied with his cleaning process, he pulled back and lingered on Star's single words. He hadn't shared with many people about his plans just yet, but he knew that it was a little late. If he didn't tell the boy now, he knew that he would fuss and worry over what it was that the Azat had planned. He said softly, shifting on his paws as he let loose a slew of words. He stopped, ears pulling back as he looked away. He knew that Starling wasn't big on fighting, even though he was trying so hard. "E sì, eravamo molto vicini. Era come un fratello per me, e uno zio di voi ragazzi." He added, not trying to stop the sadness that tainted his vocals.

Bass looked back just in time to see his sky blue eyes light up, and he could not stop the small smile that teased his lips. Leaning forward he nuzzled his darker fur, humming softly. "So che sono allenati duramente, Starling. Io l'ho visto, e Finch me tutto ha raccontato come si è andato a raccogliere più erbe. Sono così orgogliosa di te, e vorrei offrirvi una promozione al grado di Vor. Cioè, se si vuole prendere." Bass rose a pale brow, although he knew that there was very little chance that Starling would turn it down. And there was no one else that deserved the title more than he did. He saw Starling very quickly climbing the ranks, with the amount of time that he put into his flowers and crap.

Starling was not surprised at the words his father spoke, the plan to take Sin down. The young Destruction couldn’t help but feel some small ounce of regret over the fact that Threar had fallen. Why hadn’t he gone to warn the rest of their family of the man? If Sin was as dangerous as he had been painted to be, then shouldn’t it have crossed Starling’s mine to warn his entire family. He was terrible at fighting, and really unable to defend anyone let alone himself, but he had knowledge, he was smart, he had the clues and the puzzle pieces and he hadn’t done enough with them. His eyes would drift to the ground as his father cleaned his maw, and he couldn’t help but lick at his lips in guilt. "E 'davvero terribile. Spero che si sente colpevole, strappando la nostra famiglia dalla loro casa..." He said softly, looking up at his father with his brows pinched. "Io non li ho avvertito, pure. Mi dispiace." His tones were thick with his guilt, but still so soft as he looked up at his father, offering a weak smile. "Ma il peccato... lui non merita di avere quella terra. Non so quanto posso aiutare in battaglia , ma se il pacchetto lo supporta, ti aiuterò in ogni modo possibile."

He couldn’t help the small, breathy laugh as his father nuzzled him, all hesitance leaving him from the offer. Instead, excitement coursed through him, replacing the adrenaline he had felt in his anxiety. Blue eyes would shine up at his father, a boyish smile on his lips before he nodded, happily. It made his heart soar, to know that Bass noticed all his efforts. This is what he had worked for! Not just the promotion, while that was an icing on the cake, it was his father’s pride and to have his efforts noticed. He strived for more knowledge so he can help his pack, and to know Bass, who was not only his father but his alpha, praised him for it...it rejuvinated his ambition. He wanted to learn all he could, every bit. "Mi piacerebbe."

Bass' ears pulled forward as he saw the guilt settle in Starling's eyes, his own golden gaze narrowing towards his son. There was no way that he was going to allow him to feel any guilt about what happened at all. Starling spoke of being sorry, of not warning the right pack at the right time. The man's tail lashed behind him, a low growl rumbling in his throat. "Non ti azzardare a sentirsi in colpa Starling, questo non è colpa tua a tutti. Non aveva idea che il peccato sarebbe andato per Threar, nessuno di noi ha fatto. Ha tirato uno sopra a tutti, ed era una cosa che non potevamo prevedere. Questo non è in alcun modo, perché non siete riusciti a metterli in guardia. Novella aveva appena partorito, che stava per essere una lotta difficile, non importa cosa." He softened when his son spoke more of, saying that he was going to support and aid the pack all he could. Bass dipped his head, proud that his kids stood by his side no matter what happened.

His laugh warmed his heart, making Bass loosen up as he smiled at the lanky boy. He really couldn't be more proud of him, of following his heart and doing all he could to do his very best. He took the promotion like he knew he would, and Bass chuckled at the brown and white boy. "Bene. Abaven ha bisogno di più i lupi come te, Starling. Siete dedicato al vostro commercio e gli studi, non credo che abbia mai visto nessuno lavorare così difficile come si." he rumbled. "Il rango è tutto vostro, figlio."

Conflicting emotions would shudder through him, and it was uncontrollable. It wasn't like he could just turn it off as his father growled and told him quite clearly there was nothing to be guilty over. Instead he just averted his gaze. "Ma..." He said with a sigh, glancing back up at Bass. His ears would fall back then before he nodded. Deep inside he still believed that if he had just extended his warning to their extended family Threar might still be okay, but no..instead Sin had won. The man that had been painted with the colors of evil in his mind had won, and they had lost. But hopefully not for long very soon.

Starling would look at his father then, his eyes growing slightly wider. It was like he had been given something he had been wanting for a very long time. Something he knew he had, but it was so wonderful to hear it. For a long time, ever since he could feel such complex things, he had always felt...odd. That was probably the best word. Like he was born wrong. He didn't have the gift for fighting, and no matter how hard he tried he was never going to be exemplary. He would never follow in his father's paw steps, never be as good as Lark. But just hearing these words from Bass, knowing they were sincere... He felt warmth spreading through him, and everything felt wonderful again. "Grazie, padre" He said in his soft, delicate voice, tilting his head down to smile at the ground, awkward but happy. After a moment of silence, he would hum slightly before looking up at Bass. "Abaven non ha avuto una sessione di allenamento guaritore in un bel po'..." He hinted with a slow, pride-filled smile, blue eyes shining with excitement.

At Starling's hint he grinned, stepping forward and nuzzling behind his ear. "Suona come una buona idea. È possibile avviare un qualsiasi momento si vede in forma." With a quick wag of his tail he turned away, nose pointing back towards home. "Ora, c'era qualcos'altro? O potremmo tornare a casa?" He asked softly, turning his head to look over his shoulder. He shifted from paw to paw, eager to get back to Abaven after their drawing conversation. It was a lot to do in one day, and even though he was so proud of Starling, he needed to get home and rest.
