Surreal Adravendi

She stood hocks and elbows deep in the sea, the autumn chilled water lapping against her brisket and belly. She’d noticed a sleek form or two in the water, and weird barks that sounded almost canine, but not like any wolf she had ever heard in her life. Her mother had told her of aquatic mammals that lived primarily in the sea, though came ashore to rest and bask in the sun. Erani had seen much in her long, lonely few years of travel in her early years, before Starlite. One thing she had said about these water dwelling creatures was that they were rich in fat; blubber, and if you could catch one, they would be an excellent source of food for many days to follow, especially in the cold seasons. There weren’t many deer in this area of the West. The Estuary was primarily a bird habitat; squawky, twittering, quacking, chirping, noisy birds.

It made her rather wish they had moved northward, back to the Willows and Emerald Valley. But the move had been a short notice thing, and she had wanted to be near enough to keep an eye on the invaders. It would be easier on Battlesong to have a shorter distance to fly in order to conduct her scouting missions. The bird was getting older, having been in her prime years of life when Surreal had found her and rescued her. However, the Estuary had it’s uses. With so many birds present, yet another bird would be less noticeable.

Surreal stilled as a sleek figure crested the surface of the water, not ten feet away, before slipping away to the depths once more. She shook her head. This wasn’t going to be a one wolf job, not when the animals were in the water. So she sloshed back to the shore, shaking herself thoroughly to shed the water soaked into her fur. It appeared migratory duck would be the meal for the day. More feathers.

The man was moving towards the Estuary, determination within his golden gaze. After finding Faite there had been only one thing on his mind, one very, very important thing. Getting her home. Perhaps then he could make amends for the time he'd spent searching for her, and not worry Surreal so much anymore. What would the woman think when she saw the girl all grown up? Would she still see her as her baby, or would she respect the fact that she was now her own woman? Time would surely tell, and Castiel knew that regardless of the outcome he'd be there to witness it.

Castiel would breathe in, searching for his sister's scent. There were definitely enough birds in this damned place. Their squawking was enough to drive a wolf mad. Not looking over his shoulder, though fairly certain that Faite was somewhere behind him, Cas would press on.

Finally Surreal would come into view, and Castiel would slow. He'd smile warmly, waiting for the joyous reunion to begin.

Castiel seemed more excited about bringing her home than she was to be home. That wasn't to say she wasn't excited because she was beyond overjoyed to know that she'd get to see her family once again. Of course he also seemed to be having a better time at his pace than he was. He was so much taller than her that she felt like she had to work twice as hard just to keep up which in turn made her just a tad bit irritable. She didn't show it though and instead trotted to keep up with him falling slightly behind as she tried to keep an eye on her surroundings as well.

It wasn't long until they reached the estuary which did nothing but confuse the girl. Why weren't they headed to the plains instead? Wasn't that where they'd been living? Her ears flicked back nervously as they continued forward. The sound of birds was the most overwhelming thing and her nose crinkled with disgust. They were loud and noisy and she already hated the area.

The sight of the sea changed her mood rather swiftly but it was the gray form on the beach that really caught her attention. A grin encompassed her features and she immediately dashed past Castiel towards her mother with a soft yip coming from her jowls.

"Mother!" She called excitedly, hoping to wrap her mother in a loving embrace.

Pawsteps, familiar as the tread of her brother, came behind her, and she turned to look at him. The attention given to him was brief, as a female form shot past him with a yip. Faite had all of her attention, then. The embrace from her daughter was returned, even as she planted kisses over Faite’s face, covering the girl in her scent as her front legs lifted to wrap around her child’s shoulders and draw her tight to herself, a soft whine singing free of her throat. "Faite! OH mo chailín beag, tá tú tar éis fás i bhfad. Tá tú teacht ar ais chugainn." Her tail would not stay still, and it would take a thousand wild horses to drag her away from her girl at this moment.

Her eyes squeezed shut, but she let the tears fall. Relief, joy, sadness that so long had passed and so much of her child’s life had been missed out on. What had Faite gone through? Where had she been? There had been times where she wondered if she would ever see her little girl again, but a deeper part of her had known better; known Faite was still alive, and here she was. "Is breá liom tú, mo Faite beag." The murmured endearments held so much tenderness in them. For now, she wanted nothing more than to hold her little girl for a long time.

Her mother raced to meet her and Faite's tail wagged faster as Surreal lathered her in kisses. She couldn't help but lean into her mother's embrace much like she was a small child once again. She knew she'd missed her family while she was gone but it was like the floodwaters had broken free and how she realized how much she truly had pined for them all.

"Ar ndóigh tháinig mé ar ais ! Riamh stop mé ag cuardach ar do shon go léir ."
She said softly with a whine.

She felt her mothers tears seep through her fur and Faite just continued to lean into her mothers embrace. Granted she couldn't wait to see Regulus and Zuriel but for now she felt that was something that could wait. Now that she finally had her mother here she didn't want to leave the warm hug she was enveloped in. She was content to be the child for now. Sure Surreal would have to see her little girl had grown up, but she would always be her baby.

"Is breá liom tú ró Máthair . Chaill mé leat go léir an méid sin ."
