The distant sound of hooves caught the man's attention as he continued his journey through the foreign, frozen terrain, lightly dotted with little pine trees. Shifting his course he headed toward the source of the sound. The sun was rising over the horizon, spilling its shimmering light across the snow. Before him stretched a herd of reindeer and it was then he realized that he was becoming rather hungry. He'd been traveling for a long ways, surviving mostly on the scraps of other predators and small game. He stood for a moment eyeing the herd but there were no young calves yet that could be taken. He wondered if he could take an old or injured target by himself and then he noticed another wolf about 20 feet away from where he lay hid behind a small pine.
