Quarterly Maintenance
01-01-2016, 09:08 AM
Yes, it's that time of year again folks! We call this "Quarterly Maintenance Day" (even though it takes much longer than that) and it is a day (week) when staff take care of the big things that don't need to be done on a daily basis. You can expect to see an activity check and a survey going up today, and you should check out the new "Of the Seasons" that has replaced "of the Months". An additional reminder that it is now spring! and you should age up any characters born this season.
Now for the big maintenance thing! I would like your help (yes, you!) to assist in a community clean up of the site. We all know that there are descriptions, code, etc, that have persisted since EOP Ala that are messy, incorrect, or just plain annoying. Mentions of packs in land descriptions, misspellings, you know what I mean! Most of the time we don't even notice anymore, because we are so used to it, but from now until the eighth I would like you to NOTICE, and post here so we can clean it up! This includes mistakes in the PD, pack related issues (we just put up two at once, we probably missed something!), character issues, and guidebook problems!
We want the site to be fresh, shiny and clean for some behind-the-scenes stuff we are working on, but more importantly we all want Ala to be something to be proud of, and to show off to prospective members. So get out there and find those mistakes, clean up crew!

I'll take my throne, lay it on a mountain and make myself a king

Fenrir's Maw in the east has a messed up description with random question marks!:
Set in the mountainous eastern lands of Alacritis, Fenrir?s Maw is a craggy, dangerous set of mountains, riddled with steep drop-offs, unstable trails, sinkholes, and peaked with snow, all year round, despite being south of the northern lands. Riddled with caves that span deep into the mountains, alcoves and chambers, making these mountains a good place for a pack that doesn?t mind the dangerous terrain. A wolf must be nimble on his or her paws, or find one?s death on the rocky earth below. The plant life is hardy, the trees being evergreens suited to the climate. There are many hard to find herbs that grow here, if a healer is brave and surefooted enough to seek them out.
Fixed!
The Kamui Delta
At this place, several rivers break out and stem into the ocean. The most well known and uninhabited of these is the Kamui Delta, as wolves are easily able to explore here.
Saying "the most well known an uninhabited" just sort of seems off. If it's easily explorable and well known, wouldn't it be the most well known and inhabited?
But it is uninhabited. There is not a lot of life there and no packs settled there.
Falmer's Dunes - It's redundant.
This place is very dry and holds very little life. Only the toughest plants and animals can thrive here. It's right smack in the middle of a desert and is very dry. It rains only a few times a year.
Fixed!
Sea's Plain - Mispelling and odd wording
On Low tide, the beach is bared to the sun, and other kinds of sea food can be found, if a wolf doesn?t mind digging. - messed up question mark thing.
Crypress Trees, young and old grow sparsely apart, wide bases standing strong against storms and thriving in the brackish water.
Reword; it sounds odd: Cypress trees, young and old, grow sparsely apart with wide bases standing strong against storms and thriving in the brackish water.
Fixed!
Alabastrine Shrine - Random capitalized letter and really weird wording in the last sentence quoted here
Treading Deeper into the heart of the shrine is a circle of stones etched with runes and in the middle is a glowing spring. Its waters seem to capture the mind. If glanced into the waters creatures swear they see their past memories. The fish that swim deep in its waters strike the algae that give it its unique glow but it seemed magical.
Fixed!
Black Island - Captialization and grammar errors, spelling error weird wording.
Old: Black island is know for its difficulty to reach, its set rather close to the shore but the undercurrents require very strong swimmers to get to shore
Revised: Black Island is known for being difficult to reach; it's set rather close to shore, but undercurrents require strong swimmers to get to shore.
Fixed!
And I'm done going through lands for now

Note: Lillie has scars over her right eye and down her cheek. She also has scars under her chin and on her jaw. Her tables and art will most likely not reflect this. Unless it is specified otherwise, assume Lillianna is accompanied by her companion.

If you only want one purchase per post in the gemstore
Item: (Name of the item(s) you are purchasing.)
Amount: (The total amount the item(s) will cost and where you intend those gems to come from.)
Other: (Include the name of the character the item will be applied to, if applicable, and any other info we may need to know. For character slots, include the character slot number.)
You shouldn't have the (s)'s in there
We allow multiple purchases in one post. It's when they apply to different characters or are things like pup passes, something that can be reused for a separate character, that they need to be kept separate.
But at the very end of the gemstore post it even says in red '
Please use use separate posts for each item being purchased.
' so maybe you need to remove that part then?
Just put your items separately as the rule states. We don't need to write an entire paragraph on the exceptions to that rule - eg items that would all have to be refunded together anyway like height and markings for the same character - since it would only make things more confusing for people getting started here. Removed the plurals from the code. - Tealah

Sorry if some of these seem nitpicky my inner editor went kinda crazy tonight.
Guide Book:
01. Getting started
02. General rules
03. Character creation
04. Packs and Alphas
05. Fighting & Judging
That's as far as I got before bed started calling for me, I will pick this up again at a later point so long as someone else doesn't beat me to it.
Guide Book:
01. Getting started
- "by posting a plot threads" - Unfortunately I don't think something can be both singular and plural at the same time
02. General rules
- "While this mark may be used for thick language" - Never heard it called thick language before, may be a turn of phrase I'm unfamiliar with, if so please disregard (Posting rules)
03. Character creation
- "A lawful good character will do whatever is necessary to ensure that the greater good is benefited." - Just awkward wording here. (Character Alignment- Lawful good)
04. Packs and Alphas
- Current number of packs needs to be updated (8 instead of 6) (Pack Creation and Expansion)
- The Expanded requirements for claiming/Challenging for packs post doesn't have the same font size as the rest of the guidebook.
05. Fighting & Judging
- "So. If my wolf Bob challenges Gary [...]" - I believe the period was supposed to be a colon (Spars, Disputes and Maiming challenges)
That's as far as I got before bed started calling for me, I will pick this up again at a later point so long as someone else doesn't beat me to it.
