Things had been.. strange, as of late. Not only had his mother reappeared, only to leave again, but his brother had seemingly disappeared as well. It was frustrating, to say the very least. Once, his family had felt immovable to him - as strong and steady as a mountain, always there despite all that happened. But it seemed that things had changed with time, and though he found himself wishing desperately that Abaven could return to the way it had once been, he knew it could never be that easy.

A sigh left his lips as the colossal man moved through the thicket, with little regard of the vegetation he stumbled through. Despite winter's certain arrival, this place was still littered with vines and thick grasses - they were simply dying now, though no less irritating as he felt his back left paw snag on a particularly stubborn vine. With a slight growl, he'd rip it free from the plant's grasp, pushing onward with a strange fervor, though he had no real goal in mind.

Everything was so quiet lately, even his supposed friend Starling had gone off and disappeared...the large male supposed he had a part to play in it too, keeping to himself did wonders in making friends, right? But as it was, he liked it that way. It meant not arguing with someone else like that scar faced girl. Though he hadn't exactly talked to her since...well, he couldn't remember anymore. He'd put it all behind him. He was an older adult, no point in holding a grudge against someone he had to live with, right?

Cream colored pelt wove among the stubborn foliage, the winter mild and not so bad as it had been the previous year. Ears would perk as he pressed on with his fruitless wandering, icy blue gaze rising to find the brown form of another who was probably the only other one in the pack who matched him in height. He seemed to be in a hurry. Was there a meeting that he didn't know about? Nonchalantly, Zell decided to wander closer, his face was expressionless as he watched Lark fall victim to the tangle of vines. "It's best to lift your legs higher when you walk around here." It might feel silly, hell, it did to him since he was so big. But it was better then constantly getting caught by the vines here.

Though he knew he wasn't being particularly graceful, he didn't want anyone to point out his clumsiness either. The arrival of another was not totally unwelcome, but his initial comment brought a slight frown to his face. "I know how to walk here," he retorted a bit sharply, though his words were slow. It would be hard to not notice the annoyance that tinged his deep voice, and he shot Zell a look from the corner of his eye. It was briefly sharp, and scathing, but it softened after a moment when he realized he was being so rude.

"What are you doing here?" Lark's inquiry felt a bit forced. He knew he should spend more time with wolves other than his family, and the few friends he had, but reaching out wasn't always that easy. Even more so, it wasn't always that fun. "Bit of a shitty place to hang out, if you ask me. Don't know why I'm here either." He slowed his pace, eyeing him a bit curiously now.
