So far his mother's training meeting was going more smoothly than Ivalice's meetings usually went. Maybe because there was the possibility of getting to kick someone's ass to release any pent up irritation and aggression that might otherwise build up in a meeting? He could see where that might attract some of his packmates. Gryphon didn't particularly feel the pull to battle, the bloodthirstiness of some wolves he'd known, but he didn't see the need to shy away from it either. Maybe his ambivalence just stemmed from the fact that he wasn't actively protecting anyone by fighting right now. The learning was exciting, and he was certainly looking forward to the learning opportunity presented by this spar, but he didn't really care one way or another about the battle itself. He had no pride wrapped up in it, so being assigned to an older and presumably more experienced wolf didn't worry him, nor did the fact that he was taller than the other male give him any particular swagger.
Stretching out his lean and strong body and shaking out his sleek brown coat, he waited politely for the other male to join him away from the others so they wouldn't accidentally tangle with anyone else. As realistic as he was sure that would be in a raid or siege, Gryphon wasn't confident in his ability to fight at all yet let alone under those circumstances.

there were no cracks to grasp or gaps to claw
Ahhh well, this would be interesting. It had been some time since he stretched his muscles, more and more he noticed how much he had to do that. Highly considering his bones and muscles and how they worked. Unlike most wolves he was no longer in his prime. He may not have been an old man - but his body sure as hell felt like it. As as he was singled out by the tall young man a smile would reach his usual emotionless lips. A chance to get to know the future generation was exciting and he always had a soft spot for children.
"Nice to meet you Gryphon, you can have first move." gryphon wouldn't need the luck so Liar did not wish him it. Standing about ten feet in front of Gryphon the lithe male would set his defenses. He would bend his knee's at the joint, spreading his limbs and his toes into the terrain for balance. His tail leveling with his spine, eyes narrowing to slits as his ears would pin to the back of his head. His teeth pulled back to scrunch up the skin near his face and reveal his yellow and white teeth. As his hackles raised he ducked his head closer to his chest, and rolled his shoulders inwards for impacts. Along with scrunching up his scruff, to make it harder to grab hold of. Let it begin.
0/2 for spar.
