*aging chart by kayxer.

elapsed time calculator
1 real time day = 2 days in ardently, remember to multiply by 2

IC Age: Birth (first post)
  • Have dark fur, rounded heads and are unable to regulate their own body temperature.
  • Blind/closed eyes, deaf with small ears, a "pugged" nose with little sense of smell
  • Limited to a slow crawl, mainly with front legs but have a good sense of balance
  • Are limited to sucking and licking; can whine and yelp
  • Will feed four or five times a day for periods of three to five minutes

Average females gain 2.6 lbs and males 3.3 lbs per week for the next 14 weeks
Mental Development: Pups cannot talk yet or understand speech.

    IC Age: 2 Weeks
  • Eyes open and are blue at 11-15 days
  • Eyesight is not fully developed and pups cannot perceive forms yet
  • Milk incisors present at 15 days; can eat small pieces of regurgitated meat
  • Begin to stand and walk.
  • Vocalizations include growls, whimpering, squeaks, first high-pitched attempts at howling

    Weight: 3.5 lbs
Mental Development: Pups begin to mimic sounds made by parents but cannot form real words nor do they know what words or names mean.

    IC Age: 3 Weeks
  • Begin appearing outside of the den and playing near the entrance
  • Ears begin to raise around 27 days and hearing improves significantly
  • Around 31 days the ears are erect but with tips still flopping
  • Canines and premolar teeth present

Weight: The differences in weight across pups will start to show.
Mental Development: Pups can say simple words to signify hunger, anger, and other emotions. They do not form sentences. Have some concept of their own name and a few words parents say such as "no, yes, hungry, bad." Often pups have trouble forming words, may pronounce things wrong or use the wrong word to describe something. Signs of personality are beginning to manifest though not in any sophisticated manner. Possibilities for pups having a tendency to throw tantrums arise at this time. Pups will have short attention spans, punishments or orders from parents and adults may be forgotten quickly.

IC Age: 4 Weeks (CAN RP!! WHOO!)
  • Growth of adult hair around nose and eyes
  • Disproportionately large feet and head
  • Short, high-pitched howls are gaining strength
  • Mother may go off for hours on end to hunt
  • Dominance and play fighting begin

Mental Development: Pups can say short phrases that are rather simple in nature. Begin asking simple questions. Know their name and the names of others. Beginning to grasp the concept of right and wrong and when they are doing each. Personalities between the pups will become more and more apparent. Pups may still throw tantrums until the parents sufficiently break them of the habit through discipline.

    IC Age: 5-7 Weeks
  • Gradual process of weaning begins
  • Can follow adults up to a mile away from the den

Mental Development: Pups can say full sentences, though still simple. Pups will ask more sophisticated questions and know basic vocabulary. Know right from wrong and have a basic personality (though personality will change as they grow with life experience.) Discipline towards pups becomes a little harsher.

    IC Age: 8-16 Weeks
  • Adults abandon den and move pups to a rendezvous site
  • Weaning complete, pups feed on food provided by adults
  • Adult guard hair becomes apparent on body
  • Eyes gradually change from blue to their proper eye color
  • At 12 weeks (optional) pups will begin to follow adults on hunting trips for a short while and return to the den on their own.

    Weight: 22-50 lbs
Mental Development: Pups may begin to grasp the concept of attraction and begin to admire others but no real bonds relating towards "mating" or courtship may form, pretty much just "puppy-love."

    IC Age: 3-4 Months
  • Pups begin to gain approximately 1.3-2 lbs. per week and will do so for the next 3 months.
  • At three months pups weigh around 28-60 lbs.

Weight: Roughly the size of large foxes.
Mental Development: Pups begin to assimilate into the behavior patterns pertaining to the rank they may be suitable for in the future and dominance and submission rituals may be tried on adults now, though not usually successful in attempts to dominate older members of the pack who will normally force them into submission. May begin to rebel. Pups will often become overly excited when allowed to watch a hunt and spoil it by running at the prey and spooking it or making loud noises.

    IC Age: 4-6 Months
  • Milk teeth have been replaced by adult teeth.
  • Winter fur has become apparent and they are nearly indistinguishable from adults.
  • Pup begins to accompany adults on hunts.
  • The hormones of puberty have begun.

Mental Development: Pups are fully developed in whether their personalities are dominant or submissive. They understand most of the pack's customs and hierarchy. They may have more patience and control over their emotions and will begin thorough instruction on hunting and other survival skills. Pack members may begin to look at them as if they are more adult-like.

    IC Age: 7-11 Months
  • Pups begin to travel with pack.
  • Pups begin actively hunting for themselves.
  • Milk teeth have been completely replaced by adult teeth.
  • Pup begins to accompany adults on hunts for the pack.
  • As early as 8 months old, pups may disperse from the pack to go out on their own.

Mental Development: Pups may begin to develop more serious infatuations though courting up until the pup is at least a year old is ill advised. May flirt.

    IC Age: 1 Year
  • Epiphyseal cartilage closes off signaling the end of skeletal growth
  • Pups status in the pack may start to take shape
  • Their mother and father may mate again around this time.

    Weight: 60-150 lbs
Mental Development: Pups will be begin to declare courtships. They may court another wolf but mating will not occur until they are sexually active and able to mate/reproduce.

    IC Age: 2 Years
  • Hormonal change from puberty is complete, signalling sexual maturity

    Weight: 60-180+ lbs
    Mental Development: Considered adults.
