Enrico moved through the hushed oak forest with a swift gait, sparing no attention for the majesty of his surroundings. He was a man on a mission, the heavy body of a peahen dangling from his jaws making it clear what that mission was. He had chosen to den within the massive trunk of a dead oak for now, and he was on his way there. The peahen's blood on his tongue made his mouth water, but he didn't want to stop here to satiate his hunger. The feathers would make far too comfortable a lining for his den to pass up the chance by plucking the bird anywhere but his temporary home.

The blood and feathers tickling his nose dulled his sense of smell, so Enrico was hyper vigilant to avoid being taken by surprise if an enemy appeared. The longer he went on this continent without seeing any signs of the red brothers, the more relaxed and, conversely, more apprehensive he became about his apparent safety here. It wouldn't do to become lackadaisical about his security only to find that he had been tracked down here.

Dappled light fell across Valdís' shoulders as she moved through the grove of towering oak trees. The air had been silent and still and she'd been resting in a patch of sunlight before the scent of blood caught her attention. She supposed she should be going away from the scent but it was so tantalizing she couldn't help herself. Valdís headed right towards the source. The blood was easily recognized as prey and she knew it was something of a gamble. If the creature was injured or had been slain by a smaller creature like a fox or coyote she'd have a meal. If it belonged to something larger like another wolf, cougar or bear well… she'd have to make sure she had an escape route.

As the scent got stronger Valdís slowed her pace, eyes darting across the trees, calculating her next moves should this go wrong and as she peered out from around an oak tree she spied the gray behind of an adult man… a wolf. Drat… Valdís frowned. Would he be the sort that was kind enough to share a kill with a stray yearling? She doubted it, especially not a morsel that small but perhaps he was inclined to barter and a deal could be struck? But how to go about it…

She froze, careful of drawing attention to herself as she watched the man. He seemed hyper aware of his surroundings, moving like he expected someone to come popping out of the shadows at any moment. Did he know she was there? Well, she wasn't sure she could make herself fully known without startling him so she through caution to the winds and stepped out into a patch of sunlight. "That's an awfully small meal… you know together we might be able to bring down something that could satisfy both of us."

Enrico's ears caught the crackle of old leaves beneath paws that weren't his own, drawing his attention moments before a rangy gray youth stepped out. He stopped and immediately dropped the peahen at his paws, ready for a fight if it was forthcoming, but the taller female didn't seem like she was going to seek to steal his meal. Instead - so he surmised after a brief struggle with translating her words - she seemed to be offering to hunt with him. He eyed her with suspicion, but forbore asking what she'd be getting out of such a deal; after all, it was pretty obvious what she'd be getting out of hunting with another wolf. She was young, and young wolves out on their own for the first time often didn't have the experience to hunt for themselves consistently. No lone wolf did as well on their own - the young fared even worse. The suspicion was softened by an unwelcome upswell of sympathy for the stranger. Perhaps the risk of trusting a stranger would be worth the benefit. He tilted his head to her in an unconsciously graceful gesture of greeting. "Perhaps to being beneficial, this would be," he acknowledged. Glancing down at the peahen by his feet he hesitated. It would make a good meal for a single wolf, but he couldn't risk bringing it back to his den - he would have to bury it here and return for it, at risk of the youth reaching it before he did. The thought of larger prey made his mouth water, though, and with a sigh he scraped out a hole for it. As he dug he added. "Observed I near this place, a den of... porcellini... how to say..." he paused for a moment in frustration. "The... oink-oink?"

Valdís remained at a respectful distant, ears alert and her limbs tensed should the encounter turn violent but her body showed no outward signs of aggression. Her tail and hackles down and her stance reasonably loose despite her wariness. The man dropped the kill and turned to her and for a second they were both sizing each other up. They were similar in size and build but he moved in a way that suggested years of experience and she felt her stomach churn a bit, realizing that if this went south she'd need to run. She was well-trained and it would be a close match but even if she managed to win it would not be without terrible injuries and so she waited for him to speak. Time seeming to slow and she gauged his movements.

He gazed at her with suspicion before the expression suddenly fell and he spoke, head tilting. The words were broken and it was clear he wasn't used to speaking them. Was he a foreigner in these lands to? She wanted to comment upon it but decided not to bother. It wasn't as if she could speak any other languages and so she had nothing to offer him by stating the obvious.

"Observed I near this place, a den of... porcellini... how to say..."

Valdís tried to follow as he spoke. Procellini? Good spirits, he wasn't suggesting they hunt porcupine was he? He paused and then spoke again and she giggled before grinning at him and nodding. "Pigs!" She made note of the word porcellini though, curious to learn what the words meant to him. Eager for knowledge of any kind. "I have not hunted pigs before. Do you run them down? Uh…" she grasped for words, trying to distill her speech down with basic words that might make her meaning clearer. Suffocate? That wasn't to common… hmm…. "Stop pigs breathing? Bleed them?" She hoped she was getting her meaning across. She did not know the proper method for killing pigs.

Enrico nodded enthusiastically at her correction to his word. "Yes, yes, the pigs. The pigs run, we chase to place no escaping for the pigs. They turn to fight and we do the working together. Big teeth, pigs, dangerous teeth. I doing grab the... the grugno..." He tapped his nose to simulate a pig's snout. "So he can no make you ribbons, yes? And you be doing the making him bleed. We are to agreeing, yes?" He peered at the younger girl a moment. He was... used to leading, to giving orders, but at the same time it gave him a pang of misery, knowing that all those he'd once led were either dead or seeking his death. With a purely internal cry of pain, of regret, the former mafioso turned with all the grace of a dancer to lead the way to wear he'd last seen the sounder of javelinas.

Valdís couldn't help but grin as the man nodded excitedly at her correction. He spoke about the strategy for hunting the pigs. They would have to chase them to a place where they could not escape. Then when the pigs turned to fight they had to grab the…. her brow furrowed for a moment then widened with understanding as he tapped his nose. She chuckled. "Ribbons would be bad!" His broken english and manner of speaking were quickly beginning to grow on her. Once he secured the pigs head it was her job to bleed the creature dry. She nodded. "Yes, I agree. I will make the pig bleed. Lead the way!" Her tail wagged lightly, she was excited to join in this hunt and hopefully get a filling, tasty, and unique meal out of it. She'd never eaten pig before but they certainly smelled good. She'd just never had a prayer trying to hunt one by herself.

Despite the language barrier, his meaning clearly made it across to the youth, who agreed happily to his plan. It would be a bit dangerous even with the two of them if the javelina's herd turned on them to protect whichever pig they'd picked out, but if they were careful they'd both get a good meal out of this. "Do to being careful," he warned her, a hint of amusement to his tone despite his obvious seriousness. "I would to being not the happy if you got to ribbons." She seemed like a clever kid, one who he would have once kept a close eye on with the possibility of bringing her into the red brothers. The thought gave him a pang of misery, but he pushed it aside to lead the way back to where he'd seen the javelinas.

She nodded at the man as he warned her to be careful but she held her silence. It was almost endearing but she was far from a child, at least in her mind. She was going to have this pigs guts for a trophy! No one would be making ribbons out of Valdís Thyre! She fell in step behind the man and let the conversation die. She knew what she needed to know for now and more could be gleaned after they hunted down a nice hot meal. Besides, she needed to focus on the hunt. Truth betold Valdís did not consider herself to be a skilled hunter. She knew enough to get by and to scavenge and live as a loner but when it came to coordinated hunting she had a lot to learn.
