The east was only a temporary fix until he could figure out where to go from here. He was still adamant about staying on the move just in case. He still wanted to avoid Ray if he could and the farther he was away from Obsidian Beach the better. He never wanted to return there again and he'd make sure of it. Of course, as a loner, Mortar lacked the necessary tools to be able to fend for himself. He could hunt just fine, he'd picked that up pretty quick after all since it was either eat or die. It was being able to fight and heal is own wounds that he'd had trouble with. His fighting knowledge was limited and he'd never been able to learn healing like he'd wanted to. His lessons with Terrae hadn't gotten very far before the pack disappeared on him. It left him a bitter and emotional wreck.

His travels had led him to a lake, probably one of the easier places that wasn't trying to kill him in the east, and he'd stopped by it to take a nap in the shade of a tree. Summer was in full swing and the male's coat certainly wasn't helping with the much warmer days. The sun's unforgiving rays beat down on him and his dark pelt was just soaking them all in and baking him to the bone. It was much easier to rest during the day and travel by nightfall when the temperatures were far more bearable.

He awoke a few hours before sunset and looked around groggily. He could hear the drone of cicadas and the cry of a few frogs near the lake. Mosquitoes flitted around as well as gnats and he shook them away with a good bat of his paw. He stretched himself out before padding over to the lake and wading inwards and not stopping until the water reached his chin. It was cooler out than it was earlier, but the warm water felt so much better than sitting in the sun. The young male closed his eyes and relaxed and let all the thoughts exit his brain as he let himself enjoy the moment.

He wasn't sure what to make of his time alone, but he had finally had enough of isolation. There had to be other wolves somewhere right now, it was nearly sunset. He had avoided the heat of the day, his dark pelt making summer almost unbearable, and his temper would flare dramatically. He found an odd need for company, though, and something pulled him toward the east. Once he got to where he was going, a pleasant place to swim and wait for company, Caliber couldn't believe his luck.

There was another wolf already at the lake! There was a faint impression of familiarity, though Caliber had been away for far too long. He sat not far from the edge of the lake and called out to the familiar stranger. "Hello! Hope you don't mind company. It was hot today." The cacophany of cicadas and crickets chirping put stock to his words. He waited for rejection or invitation, preparing to be turned away and sent packing. A small light of hope shone though, and he found his dark tail waving despite himself.

OOC: So sorry it sucks D: Still getting used to him lol
Caliber can be extremely grumpy at times and has been known to kill when he is pushed too far. Please use caution when threading with him!

Mortar was used to his solitude. It'd been a constant in his life since he was a year old so he certainly hadn't expected company. An ears flicked towards the sound of heavy paw steps and he turned his head, water swishing against his face as he did so, to see a dark coated stranger on the bank. Mortar's ears flicked back hesitantly as he contemplated this unforeseen outcome. The male sat down, clearly not bothered by the fact that he was already in the lake, but overall he seemed friendly enough. Oddly enough he seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he'd seen the stranger before then. Most of all it was the eyes that seemed the most recognizable.

"Hello! Hope you don't mind company. It was hot today."

He wasn't quite sure how he felt about company, but it wasn't as if he owned the lake. Who was he to turn another wolf away. he glanced up at the other male and nodded. It was hot and he supposed making a new friend wasn't a bad idea. It wasn't as though he had the right to be picky when he had practically no one at all to begin with with Ray gone and Ricochet who knows where.

"I don't mind." He called towards the bank. "I'm Mortar."

The male smiled as he was accepted as a companion for the other wolf, he liked being alone but constant solitude was getting to his head. He needed at least one conversation to appease his social needs. Even if it was only for the moment, Caliber didn't mind. "Mortar...I have a brother called Mortar. I have been away a long time, but he looked a lot like you!" The dark male had been away a long time, and perhaps he was unsure as to whether this was actually a piece of his scattered family or just a happy coincidence. The male was happy to accept either, but he did hope there would be some recognition for a brother who had been away. "I am Caliber. It is nice to meet you." There was a bit of a smile, he seemed to be in a good mood for now.
