It seemed the season had only just started and now Spring was quickly coming to an end; temperatures were rising and the fruit that had blossomed over the season had for the most part dropped off and rotted away leaving the grass around the trees sticky and smelling of fermentation. More than once he had considered diving in and eating the overly ripe apples and pears until he blacked out, but the thought that something might sneak past him while he was inebriated and kill the pups had kept him from carrying the action out.

He approached the den Mara and his children lived in, his torn face pulled back in an easy grin as the sound of his sons romping around inside reached his ears even from a distance. He tilted his head back in a low musical howl, calling his children out to greet him. He felt he had called them in a similar fashion no less than a hundred times, but the lightness that filled his heart whenever he did never seemed to fade or feel overly familiar.

“Da’s here!” he heard his largest son cry excitedly before the blonde and black pup ran from the den at full tilt to be the first to greet him.

“Da’s here!” He announced excitedly before dashing for the mouth of the den, making sure to give Amos a good kick in the face to ensure he would be the first one there. He charged from the den and tackled his father’s leg with all his strength, sinking his needle-sharp teeth into the stiff muscle with a playful growl. Ruthgar let out a deep laugh and raised his paw sending the darkly colored pup twisting onto his back.

“Gitten strong aye?” His father’s booming voice asked.

Rogdar rolled back onto his paws and dropped into a playful bow. “Aye!” He growled in response, a wide grin nearly splitting his face in two. He let out another playful growl and pounced at his father’s large paw. His brothers were most likely right behind him but for the moment he couldn’t care less. For a few brief seconds he had his Da all to himself and he fully intended to enjoy it.

Oh, that jerk was gunna get it now! Amos leapt to his paws, only stumbling a little on his gangling limbs, after being so rudely awakened by his sibling. Shaking out his dark coat, the boys face darkened and he soon charged out of the den, running straight for that stupid-head brother of his with every intention of tackling him on sight. He ran head-long into puppy battle, with no stealth to speak of.

"Get back here!" he shouted, teeth bared as he surged forward and made his best attempt at leaping at his brother, little fangs and claws at the ready for a puppy brawl of doom!
