I'd rather be dead than live a lie
BURN THE WHITE FLAG!

The summer had been mild for the most part but a heat wave had pushed Natha off her course and into the rocky mountains of Fenrir's Maw. She climbed swiftly and nimbly up the mountainside in search of relief. Clouds were starting to gather in the sky and while they did not immediately threaten storms the lynx did not want to be caught to far from shelter. Her bobbed tail twitched slightly, her muscular legs bunching beneath her before launching her farther up the mountainside. Rocks shifted and slipped down below her but she kept her focus on the task at hand. This was treacherous terrain in deed and she would have to be careful. In the distance she spied some mountain goats and instinctively she crouched down and fell still, watching them, deciding if they were worth stalking.

For the most part the summer had been a lot more tolerable than the last one he'd witnessed, thankfully, but it seemed like the past few days had gotten considerably hotter. It was like summer had finally remembered that it was supposed to be blazing hot and had rectified the situation. Even the valley and the willows had succumbed to the heat wave and, rather than just bathe in the lake in the willows, Rory figured it was time to get out to relax. He hadn't done much exploring since he'd turned one between multiple wolves disappearing and his constant training. He figured now was the time to take a break so he didn't feel like one big ball of nerves.

He wasn't sure what compelled him to come this far east, but the amount of packs in this area fascinated him. How could they stand to live practically right next to each other? Either way he could only assume that they were all on friendly terms then. How could you be neighbors and live side by side without getting along? A part of him wanted to go to the packs and talk with their leaders to get to know some of them, but for now he decided exploring was the better option. All that boring alpha stuff could come later.

The mountains were a lot cooler than the desert back at home and he found himself enjoying the scenery despite the rocky terrain. He got pretty good at watching his footing and after a few hours of walking around he was pretty sure he had the whole mountain climbing down. So long as he avoided any place to steep and watched out for loose rocks then he was good to go.

He hadn't found anything of interest up until the point he spotted a few mountain goats. He eyed them for a moment until the wind shifted and brought a strange scent to him that he'd never smelled before. It smelled kind of like ... was that a feline? Bi-colored gaze scanned his surroundings until he spotted the creature crouched and watched the same goats he was. He'd never seen that kind of cat before, having lived in the west his entire life, so he just crouched instead and eyed it. What the hell kind of cat was that?

The summer was going by peacefully, and she was waiting for Sparrow to come to her. It would come at any moment, she felt - she herself wouldn't approach Sparrow, though. The girl - young woman, she supposed - would come to Vali in her own time, and Vali wasn't going to force her to move any faster than she desired. To make the decision to take over the pack was a bold one, and one that Vali still felt uncertain about - was Sparrow a right choice? Truthfully, Lark would have been better. No one knew Sparrow, and she had been decidedly absent for quite a while before returning and accepting Vali's offer. But then again, some barely knew her. Even those that knew her and knew Bass abandoned the pack.

... Things would be as they were. There wasn't much she could do to change anything, and she wouldn't change much if she could. Maybe smack Bass upside the head and tell him that he needed to tell his freaking kids before he upped and left.

Her wanderings brought her to a rather dangerous area, and her musings quickly turned to concentration as she made sure each step was sure and steady. The burn in her muscles from climbing up and up and up was honestly a welcome relief from everything. The solitude and peace of the climb gave her time to think - but not too much time, as often the terrain would turn more treacherous and she'd have to stop her musing, and concentrate on her footing.

This time, though, the solitude of the trek was interrupted - first by the scent of delicious goats, and then the scent of another wolf and a feline. Her ears pricked up in interest as she crested the little hill, and she used the vantage point to look around - and spotted all the scents she smelled. She descended quickly, a small smile on her face as she approached the other wolf. She kept her voice low as she spoke - "Are you planning on hunting some of the goats?"

Natha stayed perfectly still, only her ears twitching slightly as she watched her quarry.  They'd seen the shifting of rocks but when no more movement could be seen they went back to pick through the rocky terrain for bits of flora.  As soon as their attention was diverted then Natha would continue her stalking.  It was then that she was alerted to the presence of a wolf.  Her nostrils flared and she glanced around before her eyes rested on a ruddy male… watching her.  She squinted at him.  Oh great, that's all she needed was to have competition.  Could she coerce this canine into helping her?

Oh, but what was this?  Another wolf?  She eyed the white female that approached then jerked her head toward the herd then gazed at the pair questioningly trying to gauge whether or not they wished to join the hunt or if they just wanted to watch her.  Well, she knew one thing, if they were going to wait for her to do the work then try to take her kill they had another thing coming.  She'd take on two wolves if she had to to protect her hard earned winnings.

Well crap, the cat had noticed him. His muscles tensed as he prepared to back off. As intrigued as he was with the creature, he wasn't prepared to deal with it if it wasn't entirely happy with him being so close. Before he could decide if it was friendly or upset with his presence, the sound of another approaching caught his attention. His head swung towards the noise as a smaller white wolf came towards him. Her demeanor was friendly, but he didn't relax due to the cat. He kept an ear trained on it the whole time as he eyed the female. He flashed her a friendly tail wag and was glad to see that there were such friendly canines so far away from home.

The question threw him a little off guard and he glanced towards the goats, and then the cat again, before looking back to the female. Originally he hadn't even thought about it considering he'd been on his own, but after travelling around the mountains food sounded pretty good. If she was willing to help then he was up for it. Maybe the cat would get in on the action too? He looked back towards the creature and she seemed pretty interested in the pair of wolves. He dared creep closer, making sure his footfalls were silent so he wouldn't alert the goats, and then stopped with a fair amount of distance. He'd never hunted with a different species before, but maybe it would be fun.

"Feel like a hunt?" He questioned curiously.
