The crash of the waves rang loudly in her ears as Kanja reached the shore of the island. For a few moments she lingered in the shallows and let the waves wash over her. She savored the gentle pull of the water as it tried to coax her closer to shore. This...this was beautiful. It was her first experience with the sea and she loved it. The power of the water had been obvious from the moment she'd first set foot in it and there was a wildness about it that hinted at danger. She got the sense that her experience today was only a taste of what the water was capable of.

As fun as the waves had been, they were not the reason she'd gone for a swim today. No, this morning she'd laid eyes on the island and decided right then that she wanted to explore it. She hadn't considered the possible ramifications of jumping into a large body of water with very little swimming experience, she'd just done it. Why? For the hell of it. The unknown was scary and that's what made it so irresistible.

Her eyes roved across the beach in search of things to explore. There wasn't much to see beyond the treeline so her gaze kept getting yanked back to the waterline and the busy creatures that occupied that space. There were curious little birds darting in and out with the waves and she was tempted to see if she could catch one. They were fast little daredevils; almost waiting too long to run before the wave came in. It was a marvel, really, that they managed to escape without getting wet. She had yet to see one get splashed and it was for that reason that she wanted to catch one. Kanja liked a challenge.

The giantess played dead and let the waves carry her to shore. Once her belly hit sand she had to help the water a little by gently pulling herself in with each wave, but with a little patience she finally made it to the waterline. Once there it was only a matter of waiting. After a few minutes one brave bird finally decided to check her out. Kanja saw it creep towards her and had to fight hard to keep a smirk off her lips. "Come on..." She willed it closer and watched as it took up scavenging just off to her side. "Any second now..." It was just a little too far away. A few more steps and she'd be able to jump on it. "Three...two...one..." With a maniacal shriek Kanja pounced on the bird. After a few tense moments where she thought she was going to lose it, Kanja succeeded in nabbing it. Hehehehe. She stood there, her posture proud, as feathers and clumps of sand dripped from her loosely closed jaws. Now, what to do with her little squirmy prize?

She was doing... Nothing. Without anyone or anything interesting to bother and Arwen and Ily having wandered off for now Iskra was left with nothing to do. Eventually she'd decided to take off and made her way out to the island since she didn't exactly go for swims very often. Islands were easy to overlook in ones exploring. Now, lounging on the beach under a tree the starry red woman was stretched out and attempting to nap but finding it to be an exercise in futility. She was far too amped up as usual.

Honestly she hadn't been paying much attention at all to her surroundings so when she heard the wild fluttering of wings not far away it snapped her out of her head. Sapphire blue eyes searched the sand and waves until a wolf-shaped lump appeared. Why what do you know, that lump was a wolf. With a bird. Looks like someone just got lunch. Hopping to her paws with the effortless energy of a pup Iskra sauntered her way over to the stranger, grinning. After shaking the sand out of her pelt and bringing herself relatively close to the grey woman she called, "Hey, nice catch!"

The little bird was rattling around in her mouth in search of a way out and Kanja, smug over her victory, decided to play with it by pushing it around with her tongue. Her jaws were parted just enough for the bird to see freedom, but not quite far enough for it to stick more than its beak out. Its frightened peeps were music to her ears. It was a little victory, but she was pleased. Add that to her list of attributes. Smarter and faster than a beach bird. Huzzah.

With the sound of the waves at her back Kanja didn't hear the stranger approach. She did, however, see her coming out of the corner of her eye. It was the brilliant, unnatural color of her coat that drew Kanja's attention away from her prize. She did a double take before turning to face the woman.

"Hey, nice catch!" With her mouth full it would be difficult to respond, so instead Kanja gave a satirical bow before shooting the woman a playful wink. She grinned around the bird and then opened her mouth wide. For a moment the confused plover lay still and then it seemed to realize its prison had been opened. The little bird was off like a shot, leaving sand and feathers in its wake. For a moment Kanja watched it fly off before turning her attention back to the stranger. She shrugged before offering an explanation. "I just wanted to see if I could catch one. They're a little scrawny to be eating; it'd take a whole flock to make a meal."

Iskra couldn't help but smile at the woman's response, the little flourishing bow automatically earning her a place of interest in Iskra's mind. Anyone who reacts like that has to be at least somewhat fun, and Iskra just so happened to be a big fan of fun. "Looks like a smashing success, then." Canting her head to the side, Iskra added, "I suppose you're right. They're awfully little. And who has the time to take out a whole flock of birds just for a snack?" something in her tone suggested that Iskra might very well do just that for the right incentive. Or for shits and giggles, whichever came first.

"What's your name, bird catcher?"

With the bird gone Kanja's mouth was full of feathers and sand - a mixture she had been content to deal with for the sake of the bird. Now that those were the only things rolling around in there she wanted them gone. They tasted bad and were drying her mouth out...but she didn't want to retch and spit in front of this charming stranger.

Gingerly Kanja closed her mouth all the way. The crunch of sand and feathers convinced her to abandon whatever reservations she had about saving face in front of this woman. Casually she leaned down and swiped her tongue across her foreleg in the hopes of scraping off the rest of the sand. She then straightened and grimaced at the woman before grinning and answering her question. "The name's Kanja. What's yours, stranger?" Her words were a little brusque, but they weren't said unkindly. In Kanja's mind introductions were necessary, but something to be gotten out of the way quickly. They stood between the speakers and a much more interesting topic.

Speaking of interesting. Kanja's head jerked to the side as she stared over the little red woman's shoulder. Something had just slunk out of the water and she had no idea what it was. "What the hell is that?" Her gaze briefly darted to the red woman before slipping back to the creature. It looked like some kind of goat, but clutched in its jaws was a large fish and as far as Kanja knew, goats did not eat fish. The creature's catch was by no means the weirdest thing about it. Spines, like that of some kind of lizard, jutted through its thick fur and dotted its spine from the back of its neck to the tip of its unnaturally long, lizard-like tail. Honestly it looked like the unholy offspring of a goat and a komodo dragon.

Kanja's gaze darted to the woman again. This time she grinned devilishly, her devious intentions becoming clear as she began to walk towards the mutant goat. She didn't know what it was and she was determined to find out. "Whatever it is, that's a nice looking fish its got." She winked playfully at the stranger. "Maybe it'll share."

Iskra only offered a grin ripe with amusement when the girl tried to get the sand off her tongue. Though it wasn't like she could judge, really. Iskra had no reservations about looking like a total dork for the sake of her own comfort. Once the woman introduced herself Iskra returned the gesture with a flourishing bow paired with a mischievous smile, "Iskra Aeris-" she began the words in typical playful tones but stopped when she noted the woman's focus shifting. Curious about what might be interrupting their conversation so suddenly, Iskra glanced back over her own shoulder and found herself eyeing something quite odd with a brow quirked and jaw slackening slightly. Even for her this was a strange sight, and she was the one with the starry pelt most other wolves stared at. Nothing this weird could be passed off as remotely normal. Odd colors could be excused, but this thing was some sort of crazy mutant beast! All spiney and monstous in appearance, clutching a fish as though it were the most natural of foods for a goat...

Turning to make eye contact with Kanja again, Iskra was pleased to see her own penchant for mischief and harassing the local wildlife seemed to be mirrored in this woman. Lucky day, finally someone to get up to no good with! "You know, that is a nice fish, I think we ought to teach it all about the joys of sharing a meal." Stalking close to the animal, she noted its rectangular pupils flicked to the side, observing their approach. How odd to see a prey animal move with the confident gait of a predator... The animal had a possessive gleam in its eye like it was thinking about how to protect its catch and that only made Iskra wanna take its food more. Circling around in front of it to block the animals path, Iskra slid into a crouch, poised to make a move depending on how the goat-lizard responded. The thing recoiled slightly, hunching up defensively, gold eyes glimmering. Iskra wondered if it also has the teeth of a predator, something to tear the flesh of that fish up with. They'd just have to find out, right?

Instead of shying away from Kanja's veiled proposition, Iskra seemed game and went as far as tossing her two cents in. Kanja grinned impishly at her. "We should." She had no idea if the creature was dangerous or not, but that just made it all the more exciting.

As Iska moved in front of the lizard-goat, Kanja hung back in the hopes that it would focus on the red woman. If it did she thought she might be able to sneak in close and maybe snatch the fish out of its mouth, or perhaps knock it off its feet, whichever seemed more likely to grant her success.

Seeing Iskra and sensing her intentions, the goat-lizard dropped its head and shook its horns in warning. The challenge was clear: bring it. The creature wasn't phased by the wolf stalking it. This was good, Kanja decided. Clearly it had its sights set on Iskra, which may or may not be a problem for the red woman in the near future, but it definitely wasn't a problem for Kanja. She wanted to tell Iskra of her forming plan but feared her voice would draw the creature's attention to her, so instead she remained silent and hoped the woman would somehow catch on.

After Iskra had moved to block the creature's path and it was clear that the goat-lizard had given her its undivided attention, then and only then did Kanja slink forward. She moved slowly and in a wide arc around the creature in the hopes of escaping its notice. Once she was behind it her gaze lifted and she sent a confident wink Iskra's way. This was gonna be good.

Three, two, one...

Kanja was off like a shot. Her long legs ate up the distance between them as she sought to slam the point of her left shoulder into the outside of the goat-lizard's right haunch. She was hoping to catch it by surprise and knock it off its feet.

What she hadn't expected was that the creature would see her coming from a mile away. With an explosive, reptilian hiss it spun around and sent Kanja reeling away seconds before impact. She barely avoided its wicked horns as she danced away laughing. The lizard-goat chased her a few steps and then stopped to paw at the ground and shake its head. After putting a few feet between them Kanja spun to face it head on. "Whew! That was close," she chortled to Iskra before fixing her gaze on the creature. "You clever thing, you. Come on," she bared her teeth at it, "You can do better."

She did her best to keep it's attention as the creature eyed her, lowering her head a bit so her blue eyes could match it's reptilian gaze with unwavering determination. SHe didn't break eye contact as she saw Kanja's grey form skirt around it in an arc. The beast pawed the ground for a moment, debating whether or not to just charger her then and there. Iskra growled, ready to take it head on.

Unfortunately her focus broke and she glanced towards Kanja for only a half a second. It was enough to tip the disturbingly intelligent creature off to what was happening, and it a flurry of movement it was after Kanja and Iskra was watching her new acquaintance dodge the horns. Not responding to the other womans comments, Iskra slunk closer, now finding herself behind the creature. A mischievous smirk on her lips. Sliding up along the side of the creature, Iskra stayed low to the ground and took a sneakier approach to the whole thing. While it was still fixated on Kanja Iskra positioned herself juuuust right, then without hesitation leaped forward and up, taking hold of the fish and yanking it through the other creatures teeth. Sure, it came out a little worse for wear, but she still got it! Of course her daring move earned her a hoof to the rear end which prompted her to race over towards Kanja and spin to face her attacker. Dropping the fish she giggled, "Looks like it's mine now!" in a teasing, sing-song voice.

She watched Iskra out of the corner of her eye. It looked like the red woman was gearing up for an attack and if that was the case, she was going to do her best to keep the critter distracted. She barked at it and briefly dropped her front half in a play bow before bouncing back up. "Well, my pretty? I'm waiting," she simpered. It was hard to resist the urge to look at Iskra, but she knew that if she did she'd give the red woman away.

Her antics kept the lizard-goat occupied long enough for Iskra to dart in unnoticed. She seized the fish and managed to steal it away without too much difficulty. The critter appeared stunned; its face momentarily frozen in surprise. As Iskra made it to Kanja's side the reptilian goat seemed to get over its surprise and it took on a pouty, baleful expression. It huffed at Iskra, clearly displeased.

Kanja cackled. "I don't think he likes you very much." As if to emphasize her point the lizard-goat shook its horns at them and pawed at the ground. Kanja quirked a brow. Round two? "Looks like he wants a piece of you," she teased, her gaze sliding sideways so she could eye Iskra without taking her attention completely away from the goat.

Amused by the situation, she gigged the goat. "Come on, boy. Put those big ole balls to use; come get your fish back." Would the goat be ballsy enough to take on the wolves, or would it cut its losses and head for the hills? Kanja hoped for the former. How many more chances would she get to fight a lizard-goat?

She couldn't help but cackle at the stunned look the beast gave her as it took a bit to register what just happened. Poor thing wasn't too bright, was it? Glancing at Kanja, Iskra giggled, "I haven't a clue why that would be!" The creature gave an irritable growl, continuing to paw at the ground and snort, debating whether it was worth risking it's hide in a fight against the two of them.

Grinning, Iskra darted forward before the goat-beast could make up it's mind, aiming a bite at it's neck right where it met the animal's left shoulder. She was pleased to taste coppery blood on her tongue as she jumped to the side out of it's reach - barely in time, too! The thing was faster than it had seemed. Now, it was pissed. Iskra scurried backwards as it pawed the ground once more, leaving deep marks in the sand. When it charged at her, she snickered and waited till it was almost upon her before she'd dive to her right at bite at it's hind leg. This was a fun game. Well, for her at least.

"Think we can bite it's tail off?"
