The white wolf with arresting green eyes slipped slowly through the underbrush towards the thundering sound of the falls. She had only been around these parts for only a few weeks and other than the plains with their brilliant stars, she had been drawn to this beautiful place. Back home they didn't have things like waterfalls so when she had first explored this part she had mesmerized. Riddle then had gone on to spend the better part of two days exploring in and around the waterfall. Her breath came in small white puffs as she picked up her pace. She knew the place well, it had been her sanctuary for the past couple of days and while it was far to cold to enjoy the gorgeous blue depths of the water Riddle could only imagine it would provide much needed relief from the summer heat.

As she entered the clearing around the falls she grabbed the half a rabbit she had stashed in a hollowed out log that was left over from this mornings hunt and settled down to eat the rest of it. Riddle was not particularly hungry, but in winter game tended to be much more scarce and she wasn't about to let the scavengers steal her hard won food. Another reason Riddle had been attracted to the lush falls was because of the abundance of herbs that grew around it. While most were dead or wilted at this time in the season there were still a few hardier plants that had managed to make it this far. This morning she had carefully gone through the watercress patch that had been growing on the edge of the pond and eaten that along with her rabbit. Her mother Perception had been a daughter of an ancient line of healers which Riddle (before she had left) had also been a part of. So from the time she was old enough to walk she had been steeped in the healing arts. There was still much she did not know about the effects certain plant had on specific ailments or wounds but she also took great pride in the knowledge she had a massed.

It was then that a moon faced owl swooped down from the canopy above and landed elegantly with only a slight ruffle of the feathers on a dead branch. Selia was a barn owl that Riddle had met when she had first started out on her journey many months ago. Selia had been recovering from a broken wing and instead of killing her for food Riddle had nursed the owl back to health and shared her food with her. Had it not been for Selia's companionship over the last few months Riddle was sure she would have gone crazy or at the very least done something foolish like try and convince her old pack to take her back into their ranks. Riddle nodded at the bird as she began preening her feathers, silently acknowledging her arrival before going back to picking at the rabbit carcass.
