He had been throughly enjoying the desert ever since he stumbled upon that oasis. There was just one little thing it seemed to be lacking. Food. He ventured back out of the sandy lands in search of some food. Perhaps he could carry it back to the oasis if it was portable enough to do so. If he was lucky maybe Echo would join him when he did. He smirked a little at the thought and trotted though the lush grasses, slowing down a bit when he caught the scent of a deer on the breeze. Pyre hunkered down in the grass a bit to hide his vibrant fur as he peered around, spotting a small herd of the prey animals a fair ways off. They hadn't noticed him yet so he started making his way closer, ducking his head down under the top of the grasses and only peeking up every once in a while to check how close he was. The adjustments he had to make to make sure his own fur didn't give him away was ridiculous. That was one reason why he preferred fishing. At least fish didn't see him coming so easily so he didn't have to blindly sneak up on them. The wind shifted just as he was getting close enough to grab the smallest doe and the buck that was with them must have smelled his scent because the male deer suddenly took off and the rest of the herd followed suit. "Shit!" he cursed under his breath and he ran forward to catch up with the doe before she could get too far away and he hopped up to latch his teeth onto her throat, pulling her messily down to the ground at the same time. His forepaws stood with one at the top of her neck and the other on her shoulder as he bit deeper into the doe's throat till she finally stopped flailing. Well, not his cleanest kill but at least he was gonna eat. |
