Carry me home

Daelos watched Zuriel leave the den with the bundle of herbs between her teeth before she turned to look back at Kane to finish up her work. Their mother had already gotten him started with herbs for the pain and cleaning it up so all she really had to do was apply the herbs. She was quiet for a while, focusing on making sure all of the puncture wounds were covered well. She was admittedly a bit nervous about her mother going back to see that man again on her own, but it seemed pretty obvious that she knew him from somewhere. "So... since I'm sure Mom won't tell me, what happened?" she asked to finally break the silence between them. "And who was he?" Her mother sheltered her so much and it was something that she tried not to really mention around her. She knew that her brother's disappearances had been hard on Zuriel and if it made her feel better to ignore the outside world then Daelos was okay with that. Daelos did love healing, but one of the only reasons she kept asking her mom to go herb hunting and to teach her things was because it got Zuriel out of the den and it seemed to make her happy. Daelos finished smoothing the last of the heavy dose of herbs over the back of Kane's neck and sat back to admire her handy work before she took a couple of steps back to settle down on her haunches, peering curiously at her larger brother. |

Something about his sister's timidness when she'd arrived both warmed his heart and made him feel protective, seeing her in all her innocence and completely unscathed since the last time he'd seen her told him that she'd been alright. They'd both been alright. Maybe not emotionally, but emotions weren't something the young man had a full grasp of understanding just yet. They were both unharmed, but though he was relieved- it did irk him how his mother neglected to inform his sister at all of what was going on. He knew by how protective Zuriel had been when they were pups that she had a big heart, and armor thicker than her appearances gave way. She would take secrets to her grave if it meant keeping danger or reason for concern away from her children, though.. that was only one part of the puzzle Kane was just starting to figure out.
Why hadn't she told them at all about her father before they'd left? He thought carefully, plotting his thoughts out in his mind as he lowered his frame beside Daelos, allowing her to work easier on his neck considering how much taller he was than she. His single ruby seemed distant, lost in thought as he ignored her presence unintentionally for awhile. It wasn't until she broke the silence that he looked back at her with his lone eye and shook his head.
He shifted his weight onto his side, his back legs kicking out behind him as he kept his forelimbs ahead of him and holding him upright. He was exhausted and it felt good to rest, but his mind was far too active to give into the will of sleep just yet. He looked like a lazing lion with how he was postured. His thick neck twisted so that he could face Daelos with that massive skull full on,
He didn't want to linger on the topic of Elias, and as he looked Daelos over he couldn't help but let his lips curve slightly as he admired how beautifully his sister had grown.
When you're taught to love everyone,
To love your enemies,
Then what value does that place on love?

"I don't want to admit it, but I am almost certain that man is our sire." Their... sire? Disbelief colored her face and her brows pulled together with thought. For a moment her gaze went off into the empty air as her thoughts swirled and he got more comfortable. Any time they had dared to ask anything about their father from their mother she had been vague at best. Why would he suddenly be here now? And why would Zuriel be in such a rush to go treat him if she had been avoiding him for so long? When Kane continued to speak her eyes got pulled back to his face. The more he described their supposed father the more worried she got about Zuriel going to find him on her own. Of course Kane must be right about Zuriel knowing the stranger better than either of them did, but... it was hard. Daelos could see just how much the man had done to Kane's neck and considering Kane was almost the same size as him... She appreciated Kane's protective comment, but it didn't do much to put her mind at ease. She glanced toward the mouth of the den uncertainly. Maybe she should go check and make sure everything was okay... Before she could decide on that though Kane spoke again and his voice made her look back to him again. Putting the worry for her mother to the back of her mind for a moment, she smiled a little at his words and added, "We missed you too," as his voice trailed off. "Miach made it back either way. Aunt Faite found him and brought him back." Daelos had honestly began to give up on the thought of her brothers returning, but now they were both magically back again. It was nice to have their family back together even if she didn't quite know how to react to it all. She smiled a little more as he reached toward her and she met him in the middle so he didn't have to stretch quite as far, letting him nuzzle her cheek and giving his cheek a gentle lick in return. No matter if she was completely sure about everything that was happening around her in this moment, she was still happy to have her brother home. To his request she hummed thoughtfully and tried to think of where to begin. "Well, nothing has changed much about me or mom really... I've been working really hard on my healer training with her and we've taken a lot of trips to go find different herbs and things. Mom has been working just as hard though. I guess training for being a healer never really ends." She shrugged and smiled softly. "Aunt Faite isn't leading the pack any more. One of our cousins took over and mister Frostbite is helping him. Frost is really kind and so is Rory so it's been fine." |
