Valdís loped along the border at an easy pace as she worked through her patrol. Niente was a small pack, for now, and she felt the need to put in extra work to keep her pack safe. It had taken her awhile to get settled in and during the winter she'd caught a respiratory infection. Finally back to full health she was anxious to get to work. Valdís planned to start her morning taking care of patrol and then if she wasn't too tired it would be time to train. The spring morning was chill. Patches of ice covered the ground awaiting the sun so they could resume the process of melting.

Her ears flicked up at the sound of an irate bird who was clearly guarding a nest. She ignored the twittering creature and slipped back along the path beneath the trees. The sun would be rising any minute now, but for the moment she would enjoy the blossoming pink glow on the horizon.

He had been out all night, trying to track down someone he initially thought had been a passing rogue. Perhaps it was, and perhaps it wasn't...all he knew was that he had seen the figure checking out the borders before hurrying further north. Cepheus had followed the trail all the way to edge of the sea, but had been unable to find whoever --or whatever-- it was. It wasn't a wolf's scent, he knew that much. But whatever it was, he was sure he oughta let someone know so they could keep a lookout. The sun was already waking up and casting a pink glow behind him by the time he reached the borders and his own shadow was cast before him. He felt a little tired, but the northern air kept him fully awake and alert the entire trip. His mind was trying to figure out the scent he had tried to track, but he just couldn't place it.

When he looked up, she spotted someone near the borders but this time he knew it was a pack mate. He didn't know her name, but surely he could find out? He slowed his pace as he neared her, uttering a soft bark to let her know he was a friend just in case she didn't recognize him. "Good morning!" He barked, the male deciding to wear a friendly smile when he finally crossed back into the border.
