Doing patrols for the last few days was a good change of pace. The more different things she did the easier it was to completely lose herself in whatever self-assigned task was at hand and relax for a while. Having just completed one such patrol, the woman was standing at one of the better crossing points of the rapids and eyeing the other side. Every since she woke up this morning she'd had an impossible to ignore feeling that she wanted to go out exploring again. Maybe she should go...

Glancing back over her shoulder, brows furrowed, Cael wrestled with an idea.Normally she just did whatever she wanted the vast majority of the time, and no one every really challenged her on it, which was great but... Maybe she ought to try and be involved with the others, or at least the alphas a little more? Before she could rethink it she howled for Shaye. It wasn't an urgent call, so she'd seat herself to wait for the alpha's arrival.

It wasn’t often she got a howl within the pack for her, so hearing the call, she would stop and tilt her head, listening to the cry. It sounded to her like Cael, a young member of her pack. That was good, Shaye wanted to know how her day went with the Abraxas wolf. She was still two minds over the whole thing. The idea of getting the members of Abaven accustomed to the name as.. Just another name, was a good thing. Still, she couldn’t help feel a little worried. Biding her time to see if any who bore the name turned around and bit them. She didn’t really think Cael’s friend to be the type, even if they had been acting very strange that day…

With these thoughts at the forefront, Shaye would make her way over to where the girl called. It would be good to know how it had gone, and to learn a little more about Asharya, especially since she had given the girl limited leave to enter Abaven.

She came to a stop before the chocolate wolf with mismatched eyes, and offered her a smile. “Cael, how’s it going?” she asked pleasantly.

There was only a short wait before Shaye appeared, which brought a light smile to Cael's lips. Dipping her head politely in greeting she let her tail thump the ground a few times. She wasn't really thinking about Asharya right now, if she had been maybe she'd be a little more embarrassed again, especially since she wasn't totally sure how to recover from the super weird impression they'd probably left with Shaye last time. "Pretty good, can't complain," she replied a little more brightly than she really felt.

There was a brief pause before Caelestis remembered that she had in fact called Shaye here and should probably explain. With a small start, she continued, "I uhm, I was going to go out and explore some more new lands, but then I thought maybe you might want me to go somewhere specific so I figured I would ask if you wanted me to do anything for you while I'm out this time. I'm happy to go anywhere and do anything, really." It was sort of weird to actually consult someone before acting. Cael wasn't sure how well she liked it, but she hoped that Shaye might appreciate the consideration. After all, it wasn't like Caelestis made a real habit up until now to do anything productive with her rank. Better late than never to make a change, right?

The woman’s reply was bright, and positive, admitting it was good and that she couldn’t complain, Shaye nodded her head, glad that all was well, and wondering what she had called her for.

Cael would hesitate for only a moment, and then give a rambling reason. She explained she wanted to explore, and wanted to know how she could do so for the benefit of the pack. An interesting request, and she was glad to hear it. It showed that Cael wanted to do more, and progress towards the pack. It was a good sign. They didn’t have any navigators above an apprentice rank, and she was waiting for just such an occurrence to find reason to promote someone. She smiled at Cael as she thought it through.

“Actually, It would be good if you could skirt around the hot springs in your explorations, i’ve been keeping an eye on the movement of a herd of deer, and would be good to know if they’ve moved on from there or are still in the area. Other then that, there are some scents and things to keep an eye out for. I don’t know if you heard, but a wolf recently entered the territory, fleeing from pursuit. So keeping a nose out for the slaves that pursue him would be good intel. Herd movements, and general intel that relate to current pack events are always good things for a navigator to keep an eye out for.” now, if Cael stuck to her word and did a little searching, Shaye would promote her. She didn’t say, let the girl decide for herself if she wanted to work towards the pack, but that promotion was there, dangling, hidden, above her now. “Thank you for asking, I really appreciate it.”

If pressed to hazard a guess, Cael would say that Shaye looked pleased, which made Cael feel pretty good about her choice to call the alpha. The sense of pride she suddenly had made her sit up a little bit straighter, awaiting whatever suggestion Shaye might give her. Extra care went into paying close attention to everything Shaye would go on to say. Caelestis didn't want to miss any of it. Doing well felt important all of a sudden, so fucking up at the very beginning was definitely unacceptable.

First Shaye said she wanted for Cael to go around the hot springs and look for a herd of deer that was supposed to be there and see if they'd remained or moved on. Hm… the springs were… south… west? Yeah, southwest of Abaven by a ways. Next Shaye would go on to say that a wolf had recently entered the territory and was being pursued? Woah, that was an interesting bit of news. Frowning deeply, she decided she might prefer to have a companion at her side if there was the potential for hostile figures outside. Normally she felt quite confident in her own ability to protect herself, but if there was any potential for her to find herself outnumbered, she'd really like to even the odds. Maybe she should do a little searching and see if she could find Asharya before she got too far?

"Okay," she began, head tilting ever so slightly as she went back over what Shaye said and then repeated it back, "Circle the hot springs and check to see if the deer herd is still around, and keep an eye out for slavers that might be in the area. Got it. I can do that." with a firm nod, her smile would return with a look of determination. Suddenly she wanted do better than good. Maybe she could surprise and impress Shaye with what she accomplished.

If it were possible Cael might actually be glowing, she was so relieved and excited to find herself being praised. "No problem!" she answered quickly, rising to her paws and lifting the right front to glance down at the thick leather bracelet on her arm. The little red needle behind the glass spun several times, swinging around haphazardly until it seemed drawn to one direction in particular. Nodding to herself, Cael took a step towards the water. "Guess I'm off then, see you later Shaye!"

She couldn’t think of anything else pressing to inform the girl to look out for in the roguelands. Still, it was a good start, and reaching out to Shaye definitely went in her favour. Shaye would remember it, and see what she came back with. She direly needed higher ranking wolves within the pack - she didn’t want anyone to stay an apprentice forever, and as wolves reached out to her, trying to do do more within the pack, she would find reasons to promote them.

“Exactly so” Shaye agreed as the girl repeated it back to her, offering her a smile and a light wag of her tail. Cael was already back on her paws, eager to get started and Shaye smiled at the enthusiasm of the young. “Have fun!” Shaye called out as Cael bid her goodbye, and begun to head off. She gave the girl another, thoughtful, parting glance, and turned herself, heading further back into Abaven.
