Seasonal Skill Prompts

Skill Prompts are a monthly feature that allows your character to gain skills in different ways. Each character can only complete ONE prompt per season, and can be completed either in a solo post or in a group thread. You cannot claim these posts for other skill points. Please note that as long as you complete the objectives, you're free to be creative with your posts and have some fun with these prompts!

For solo posts, you must complete the entire prompt in one post. Of course, you can use these posts as thread starters and continue the thread as usual, but no other skills may be claimed by you from that thread.

For group threads, the word count is cumulative and will be taken over all participants. However, participants must be ACTIVELY trying to complete the skill prompt for their words to count. Note that group threads have a maximum of 3 allowed participants unless otherwise specified.

Spring, Year 13 Seasonal Skill Prompts

Fighting

Spring Into Action: With the warming Spring temperatures come a lot of new babies! The downfall to this… there’s also a lot of angry mothers. One step too close to a baby animal or their living space could cause the mother to fly into a rage. If a wolf is to make it out alive, they must be able to stand their ground or stand down.
Goal: Defend yourself against an upset mother (can be prey or predator), or escape with your life.
Word Count: 800 (Solo) or 1500 (Group)
Location: Boreas
Tasks:
1. Begin your thread after you spot the mother.
2. Detail the conflict between you and the mother. Be mindful of defensive versus aggressive actions.
3. Resolve your post/thread by either successfully defending yourself against the mother, or successfully escaping.
Reward: 30 Fighting Skill Points

Hunting

Fresh Kill: Wolves often prey on the young and the old, thinning herds and creating balance in the wild. Sometimes they kill what they must, but in the Spring, many choices are presented often all at once. Many herds travel during the Spring, leaving them spread out for observation. See what you can learn from it and maybe get a meal while you’re at it.
Goal: Stalk a herd with young and old members. Deer and other herding animals are good for this. Show the thought process in deciding to target a young or old herd member for food.
Word Count: 800 (Solo) or 1500 (Group)
Location: Western or Eastern Boreas
Tasks:
1. Be clear about what prey species you are seeking out.
2. Clearly discuss the specific challenges related to hunting a healthy member of that species and compare that to a young or old member of that species.
3. Show the entirety of the hunt, whether the prey is successfully caught or not.
Reward: 30 Hunting Skill Points

Healing

Spring Fling: Spring has sprung! Flowers and herbs are blooming all over the place! Get em while they’re hot!
Goal: Seek out plants not listed in the guidebook. Find at least 3 that can be used to heal OR poison other wolves. Describe them in detail and talk about what they can be used for and how. You may also talk about plants in the guidebook, but please underline any non-guidebook plants in your post.
Word Count: 800 (Solo) or 1500 (Group)
Location: Boreas
Tasks:
1. Locate plants that are not in the guidebook.
2. Discuss how your character might harvest them. Be aware of what parts of the plant are used for what you have in mind.
3. Discuss your character's thoughts on how to use them.
4. Underline all non-guidebook plants
Reward: 30 Healing Skill Points

Navigation

Spring Into Action: It’s Spring! New year, new you! Well… maybe not, but with the snow melting and the flowers blooming, it sure does feel like a whole new world. Many new springs and little rivers also are developing and typically dry up in the Summer. Go observe the new flows of the streams created by the melting ice caps!
Goal: Find and observe a new stream created by melting snow.
Word Count: 800 (Solo) or 1500 (Group)
Location: Boreas
Tasks:
1. Find a new river or spring caused by the Spring swell of water.
2. You may note plants or animals around the stream, but try to keep it geographical.
3. Be descriptive in its colors and flow. Will it last past Summer or no?
Reward: 30 Navigation Skill Points

Intellect

Falling For It: Many changes come to Auster at a different time than Boreas. The weather is cooling and is perfect for experiencing some spooky evening weather in one of Auster’s many previously-inhabited lands.
Goal: Make a spooky mystery for your character to debunk. How do they keep their wits about them while facing even the scariest of situations? How do they use their logic to solve or escape?
Word Count: 800 (Solo) or 1500 (Group)
Location: Auster
Tasks:
1. Detail the environment around your characters. What is taking place that spooked them?
2. Unravel the mystery your character discovers. Detail out any real or fake dangers as your character encounters them.
3. End by either solving the mystery or getting scared and fleeing.
Reward: 30 Intellect Skill Points (+5 Bonus points if they manage to spook another character)

BONUS PROMPT : Navigation/Fighting

Only one bonus prompt per PLAYER allowed each season.

Flooded Frenzy: GROUP OR SOLO. Spring comes and melts all the accumulated ice, causing the rivers to swell unexpectedly. There are also many hungry predators about looking for an easy kill. It is easy for wolves going to get a drink to get trapped and hunted and the tricky terrain only makes it harder. Use a mix of navigation and fighting skills to save yourself and your group.
Goal: Fight or escape from some hungry predators while the rivers swell.
Word Count: 1200 (1 wolf), 2500 (2 wolves); 3500 (3 wolves): 4500 (4 wolves)
Location: Any river-based land
Tasks:
1. Choose a location with a river in it
2. Start the thread either as the river starts to swell or as the predators are spotted
3. Players are encouraged to use the expanded word count to make creative choices and pay attention to detail.
4. Success is determined by the players. Show whether your wolves succeed or fail, and what consequences they may have sustained in the struggle.
Reward: 30 Navigation Skill Points & 30 Fighting Skill Points

Redeem prompts as usual in skill claims!
