The judge for this fight is a bored-looking gray brute who seems to care more about watching the adult fighters paired together than he does about pairing up pups. He indicates Pyrrhic and Tsunami without hardly looking at them before he leads the pair off to a ring of stones set in the ground. "Stay in the ring," he grunts. "If you go out you lose. If you don't, I'll declare a winner. Get to it." He fixes the pair with a grumpy look that says more than words that he'd prefer to be assigned to anywhere but the pup division. "You go first," he adds in a growl to Tsunami.

Tsunami. Her sister. She wasn’t as close to her sister as she could be but she was still going to support her. She hoped Tyto showed up too, their sister deserved both of them there as support. They needed to stick together as siblings if there was any hope for them. They couldn’t afford to have rifts in between them, they held the future of Erovrare in their tiny bodies. In the spirit of this Theta yelled out to her sister “Go Tsunami!” Her sister had better win, if they didn’t she would laugh but then later be disappointed. Reputations were at stake here.

The group of wolves started to scatter off in pairs following one of the coy's. The one that motioned to her and another pup without even looking at them looked bored and like he'd rather be anywhere else. Nami narrowed her eyes at the back of the coy's head and mentally readied herself to give him a show to watch. Tsunami would make this worth watching - this boy had nothing on her.

She was motioned at to start and she readied herself, facing the other pup. Her sister called out to her, rooting her on, but she couldn't listen. She had to focus on this other pup or she'd lose and that would not make her father happy. As her first real fight, she had to prove herself. Prove that she was going to be just like her father, even if she was small and barely weighed anything. She would make a name for herself, and she'd make her father proud.

Squaring up in the center of the ring the coy spoke of, Nami lowered her head to straighten her neck and back for balance. Her tail swayed slowly, straight out behind her while her toes dug into the ground, both from anticipation and eagerness. She was ready, and this pup better be too. Normally, she wouldn't make the first move, she'd wait for the other to. But in this case, she had to go first. Hopefully, her speed would be on her side today and this other male would be slower than her. Although she didn't have much training under her belt, she was confident she'd put this boy down on the ground.

She bolted from her spot, throwing dirt behind her as she bound towards the other male with her head low and her ears back. She would aim for a leg, hopefully to throw him off balance. Although she wasn't necessarily aiming to grab one of his front legs, her mouth was open in case it fell into place or became a better option. Her ultimate goal was to plow right into him and either knock him off balance or push the air right out of his chest. He was bigger than she was, so she had to use what advantages she had and going under him or plowing him in the chest seemed like her best option. Better than exposing her underside and jumping up at him,  at least. Making contact with the males chest would likely rattle her brain a bit, but it was worth the risk if it knocked the wind out of him. Hopefully she'd make her daddy proud, but would he even notice if she won? He was probably in the middle of his own spar right now, but she could only hope he'd see her put this boy on the ground.

Oblivious to the referee's attitude (the heck was a coydog anyway and why should he care?) Pyrrhic hopped into the ring and began to strut around it, dutifully getting a feel for it like Benkos had instructed him. He was eager to get the fight underway; his dad was watching - this was important!

The boy was crushed when, after trotting to the center of the ring, he came face to face with his opponent. Aghast he looked at the coydog referee. There had to be some mistake - his opponent was a baby! Pyrrhic was almost a yearling (almost an adult in his book), how could he possibly get paired with a pup so small she probably toddled here straight from her momma's tit. Oh man, his dad was going to see this. This was going to be embarrassing no matter what happened.

The referee told the girl, Tsunami, that she got the first move. Grimly Pyrrhic adopted a fighter's stance and fixed his attention on his opponent. To her credit the girl ran at him fearlessly even though she was easily half his size. Pyrrhic dodged to his left at the last second, but wasn't quite fast enough to escape Tsunami. Her teeth scraped the inside of his left foreleg as he leapt to his left and left mild lacerations in their wake, but he succeeded in dodging her chest slam.

In retaliation Pyrrhic tried to wrap his forelegs around Tsunami's neck and slam his chest into the right side of her neck at the same time, fully intending to use his vastly superior size and weight to force her to the ground. He also attempted to bite and twist her right ear. Maybe if he made her cry her mother would come get her and he'd get an opponent his own size.

She could tell the other kid was put out by this battle,  but Tsunami didn't care. He was easily twice her size, maybe more,  and she didn't back down! He probably just didn't have faith she was worth the time,  just like the coydog. She'd show them! She'd show everyone what a worthy opponent she was.

When she rushed towards the boy,  he's managed to step out of the way just enough to miss her blow, but her teeth still managed to scrape his leg. It wasn't much,  but she learned that he was slow or too dimwitted to get out of the way in time. She was fast,  and that was the only advantage she had.

When he'd attempted to wrap his legs around her neck and push her down,  he was mostly successful. Her legs began to buckle underneath her,  yet she managed to gather them enough to rise onto her hind legs and push through his forelegs as he was snapping at her ear. He caught a bit of it,  enough to bring some blood to the surface as she rose and it pulled from his teeth.  Pushing her shoulders between his gripped forelimbs, she reached upwards with her teeth in hopes to make contact with the left side of his cheek and if she were lucky, leave a reminder of his loss to a baby.

The little pup wiggled around in his grasp, but Pyrrhic was unperturbed. This must have been how his dad felt whenever they play fought; how strong he felt compared to the little girl. How weak she felt battering against his arms. Honestly it only served to embarrass Pyrrhic further. This was not a good fight; there really wasn't a good way for him to save face, was there?

With no small amount of annoyance Pyrrhic leaned back as the girl snapped at his face. One canine managed to nick his skin as he pulled back, but the damage was minor. In retaliation Pyrrhic shoved forward in the hopes of knocking the girl to the ground. Now that she was on her hind legs she should be even easier to knock over.

Lastly he attempted to bite the bridge of her nose. If he could get a solid grip between her eyes she'd be powerless and have no choice but to submit.

Her attempt at snagging his face was successful, but only barely so. She hadn't even tasted blood on the canine that nicked him. He was quick to try and shove her back to the ground, and he was even more successful this time. She toppled easily having her weighted split between only two legs, but he hadn't managed to grab more than the end of her nose when he reached at her face. That much she was grateful for, but landing on the hard dirt wasn't pleasant either. With fresh cuts on her nose from his teeth, she pawed at them as they stung from the freshness. She'd already known that he'd won from that moment he toppled her, so there was no use at this point trying to settle the score. What she did know though, was that she wasn't done with this boy. There'd come a time when she'd come back for the boy and she'd be a lot stronger and he wouldn't have such an easy chance.

She rose from her position on her hip and strutted away without a look back towards the older boy or the stupid coydog. Hopefully her family wasn't watching, but she already knew her sister was. If anyone saw the fight, they'd knew it'd be unfair right? He was easily three times her size! While she had all the confidence in the world to win, her size simply was her disadvantage here. Maybe if her opponent hadn't been nearly an adult, but it didn't matter. It was over and she had lost, so she'd go and lick her wounds and prepare to wipe him out in the future.

The fight ended in his favor. Pyrrhic shook out his coat and then glanced back at Benkos for approval. The mandrill, dour as ever, gave no sign that he was pleased with the outcome and Pyrrhic got the impression that he too felt a fight was wasted on a toddling infant.

Oblivious and indifferent to what the baby was up to, Pyrrhic padded over to Benkos, who stretched out his arms and took the boy's face in his hands. The mandrill lifted his damaged cheek up to the light and looked at it before nodding his approval. "It won't scar and the swelling shouldn't bother the eye." Good - he had another fight ahead of him.

"Did you get a look at the other winners? Do you think I'll get a real opponent next time?" he asked hopefully. When they were all huddled together Pyrrhic had noted several boys who were about his size. Benkos released his face. "It's hard to say; the pairings appear to be random. Let's take care of those marks before the next fight, hm?"

The fight came to a close, as Theta watched she was utterly astounded. She hadn't looked at her sisters' opponent before the fight. They were a wolf that looked to be the size of an adult. That couldn't have been fair, Theta hoped her opponent wasn't that big. Her sister lost but that came as no surprise to Theta after seeing the opponent. Tsunami walked off and Theta felt that she need not tag along; Tsunami had to deal with this loss on her own terms. She didn't need Theta's consoling or whatever mushy stuff you did with the loser of a fight. Theta walked off in the opposite direction to think about anything she could do differently should her opponent be of the same height.
