The Ademre and the path of the Letantha
(The Sword Tree)

The Basics:
Nestled deep in the island of Haert, these Ademre follow the path of the sword tree. Dedicated, and highly trained warriors, who follow a code of conduct known as the Lethani. Their world is a barren, harsh place, and from it produces wolves that are practical, and a little stern. They work together as a community, the wealth of one is the wealth of all. The Adem believe themselves to be culturally superior to the other peoples of the world, to whom they refer as ‘barbarians’. This is primarily a result of their beliefs regarding outward displays of emotion, the repression of which is viewed as a mark of civilized culture. They do not lord over other cultures, as this would ‘not be of the Lethani’
Fighting is their main trade, and they all strive to be warriors. Their fighters are ranked ‘by the stone’ with the ‘First stone’ being the lowest rank. Once any warrior reaches a ‘stone’ they are able to ‘take the reds’ and wear markings of red to signify their status as a warrior. The greatest fighter among them wears white. The Sword Tree is a great, red blossom tree that sits in the center of their island. There are stones laid out on the hill beneath it, and a warrior of each rank stands there. A warrior striving to rise higher in the ranks fights a warrior of each rank by a stone until they lose.
The school here teaches the path of the sword, and any who wish to join the disciple audition at the school

The Sword Tree: These are the warriors of the Ademre, their disciple of fighting is known as ‘The Sword Tree’

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ademre Religion and the Star Path
(For those that chose to follow it)
(The Seeing Stone)

Basic Beliefs:
Tor- she wolf moon god - females pray to her and call upon her in time of need- Life - Love - Heart
Fenris- wolf sun god - males pray to him and call upon him in times of need - Hard Truths/Honesty - Death - Heroism
Sita- from whence all good things came, was murdered and reborn 3 moons later to return the balance
Wolfbane- from whence all evil comes, murdered Sita
Pyre- The red girl, one of Tor’s daughters with fur red as an autumn leaf - keeper of the red meadow
Dammam - first of the Varg and first keeper of the balance. - born from the earth
Va - created by Tor out of Dammam’s tooth - mother of the Varg
Varg- wolf
Lera- any wild animal
Red Meadow- afterlife - where souls go to rest after death
The Great Darkness: When balance went out of true over the whole of the world. Reversed by Sita’s sacrifice.
Keeper: The chosen wolf (by the previous keeper - 1st keeper chosen by Dammam but that line was lost during the great darkness. Current line was first chosen by Sita herself.) that keeps the stories and legends of their past - passed down the knowledge of keeping the balance and seeking out disturbances then correcting them in either direction. Always a male, but prays to both Tor and Fenris instead of just Fenris.
Legend:
In the legends, the wolf gods Tor and Fenris were said to be the makers of sky and stone, and had created the world and so brought "light out of the darkness" and Tor first brought forth the earth, and her children Dammam, Sita, Wolfbane, and Pyre.
Dammam, the first wolf and first keeper of the balance. Tor sent Dammam to sleep one day and took one of his teeth and created the first she wolf, Va. The pair would go on to rule the first pack, her children the Varg.
Dammam taught that as wolves they had reign over the land and its inhabitants. They were taught by Tor to keep the herd healthy in their selections. By Fenris the wolves learned to kill efficiently and to fight honorably.
Dammam being mortal eventually passed on to the red meadow, and the children he left behind were taught to keep the balance of life and death. Through the generations the knowledge passed down from the first of the Varg was twisted and corrupted with the help of Wolfbane. The world fell out of balance. Violence and Death were all the Varg or Lera knew. Tor and Fenris then sent the angelic Sita from the heavens to the Varg below.
She brought with her love, kindness, and compassion. Soon the Varg were lifted from darkness, but not without sacrifice. She was killed by Wolfbane. The world looked as though it would be plunged back in to chaos, until three moons later Sita reappeared with the rising moon of winter solstice.
With both Sita and Wolfbane in the world Balance was restored and the pact between Tor, Fenris, and the Varg returned and the wolves lived in peace. However in places other than the island of Heart, the balance remains off center.

Ideals: Seekers of balance in the mortal realm. Can’t have life without death, happiness without sadness, or good without evil. Tor and Fenris will call you to this path, but most still train under the sword tree. The oath of the star is a personal oath that some Ademre take and some do not. They seek to restore balance to the world around them, through prayer and action.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ademre

The Lethani: it is not only doing what is right, but knowing what is right to begin with. It is also a way to make the best of life, and it can be said that is the way to live properly, or with honor. Sometimes it seems counterintuitive, but it is frequently stated that no man, woman or child among the Adem claims to know the Lethani. To kill without need is not of the Lethani. It is a complex topic that cannot be discussed explicitly.
“To guide us in our actions. By following the Lethani, you act rightly. The Lethani is not a path, it is what helps us choose a path”

Appearances: Colors of coal and amber, the flickers of fire. (these can be dulled tones for free colors) These are the tones the wolves of the Ademre boost. Sharper fangs are common, but not the rule. It could be said that they take their colors from the sword tree itself.

Communication: To outsiders, the Adem may seem at first impression to be aloof and emotionless, as they use words sparingly, avoid eye contact, and typically maintain an utterly blank facial expression. In addition, they are sometimes perceived as fidgety and anxious, for while they tend to be silent they can often be seen making small gestures or tics with one hand.
In truth, however, these gestures are how the Adem display their emotions, using a form of sign language while repressing facial expressions. Facial expressions are allowed while interacting in a family setting. While most emotions are not expressed facially or verbally, the Adem do not feel the need to refrain from laughter and crying, as they believe that such basic, primal emotions should not be kept inside.

Sexual Beliefs: they do not believe that men have any role in helping women to conceive children, nor in passing on heritable traits. They believe that women naturally "ripen" and bear children after reaching maturity. The Adem are also not shy about sex, meaning they have no concept of sexual privacy, they aren't ashamed of nudity, and they can be in more than one sexual relationship at the same time without any kind of resentment from the other partners. Sex is not assigned any of the emotional weight and ceremony that is typical of other cultures; while it is an intimate experience, it is viewed as more of a fulfilling of bodily needs than an expression of romantic feelings, with sex and love being very distinct concepts to the Adem.

Alignment: Neutral Good - They follow the heart of the law before the letter of the law, this is of the Lehani

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ademre Path of the Sword Tree plot in Ardent:
These wolves will eventually form a band, we are looking for wolves of good alignment, dedicated to their people. They will be warriors of the first stone, set out to make a name for themselves and bring back wealth to their people

The Ademre Oath of the Star plot in Ardent:
These wolves seek to find disturbances in the balance and to correct them to true. Often have complicated personal rituals performed for the gods Tor and Fenris. In our plot, we are focused on the path of the sword tree, but wolves following this path can also take an oath to their religion (Oath of the Star)

(Been meaning to throw this up for daaays xD)

Name: Ekon Ilore of The Ademre

Age: 1 year

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Ekon stands roughly 30 inches tall, weighing in no more than 115 pounds at any given time. He isn't extraordinarily tall of wide, but this isn't unheard of among his people. Smaller legs lined thick with muscle, trained to deliver decisive blows rather than a multitude of them. His fighting style, since reach is not an option for him, would have to be close combat because of this. His hairs are thickest around his neck and tail, while they are finer around his face and the barrel of his body.

Silver hairs cover his forehead, back of his neck, and across his sides. This silver blends and fades away as a deep clay brown moves in; covering the sides of his face, his chest, shoulder blades, legs, tail, and underside. An elegant mixture that only furthers to illuminate with the vibrant orange hairs common among his people. These hairs orange like a rising sun, line the front of his shoulders, sweep across the bottom of his sides, and the tip of his tail most noticeably. The orange also lines portions of his face nearest his eyes, which just so happen to be the same shade of orange. The tips of his ears are dipped in this orange dye, though it does not quite reach the inside.

Personality:
Honesty has always been the only option for Ekon, even when it was difficult to do so. To lie is to taint one's own image, to soil their own name, thus it is more detrimental than useful. He dislikes wolves who are dishonest, even if it is someone he highly valued; he will not care for them afterwords. To show mercy is always the preferred option for this male, as he was taught in training school. To be merciless is to be cruel, and only dishonorable warriors display cruelty. Ekon values his honor highly, and will do almost anything to protect it.

Like most of his homeland, most of his emotions are voided on his face, showing only a stoic blankness 90% of the time. It was his only flaw during training school; every so often, when laughter threatens to bubble up in his throat, Ekon is known to show the slightest raise of his lips in an attempted grin. It's still considered a rare sight, however his homeland never uses such expressions outside the family dens, so his tiny grin became well known.

More to develop IC...

Taken the Oath?: No... not yet anyways

Relation to the Pyre family: Training school classmates/friends

Rp Sample

Each youngling stood side by side, firm in their positions, standing tall and proud as their instructor examined each and every single one of them. Ekon stood beside his fellow yearlings, casting his gaze downwards as the instructor walked father away from him. Beside him, one of his oldest friends and training partner twitched his knuckle ever so slightly in the dirt, leaning more towards an emotion of /mocking, humor/ that made the corners of Ekon's lips twitch with the urge to laugh. Their instructor was a brutally strict male, that enjoyed little but training. Constantly building muscle and perfecting his moves, he taught the young Cadette much the same way; early morning wake up calls to run mile long dashes across the roughest terrain the island could provide, only to be let loose when each and every single one of them could run the length of the terrain in a certain amount of time. It caused tension between the ranks the first few weeks he ran this exercise; those who failed the first or second time causing more pain for those who had successfully completed it, thus causing anger to rise. Some minor fights would break out here and there between the hot headed youngsters and those who failed, but Ekon would do his best to intervene them. It wasn't always the same wolf who failed, everyone had bad days, so no one deserved to get ripped into for it.

Eventually the lesson was learned, that the unit had to work across the field as a team, rather than a group of wolves running for their own survival. The fastest wolf would get the the battle first, but he would not live long enough to see his comrades make it, so running as one was always better. It was after their morning run that the young wolves now stood side by side, after failing the test several times, but at least doing it as a unit. It wasn't ideal, but it was far better than what they had been doing, but the instructor continued to chant about "doing better than yesterday, and when you've done that, do better than tomorrow". That's why his classmate mocked him so, and that's why Ekon was distracted when the older warrior turned around, catching the glimpse of a smirk encroaching on Ekon's face. In an instant, the instructor was on him, taking the orange marked male to the ground with a loud 'thump', and causing the air to leave his lungs. No words were needed to exchange the anger in the older wolf, and the message was clear; there was nothing funny about this.

Name: Skaelingr Pyre of the Ademre
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Appearance: Skaelingr is a creature of power and beauty cloaked in a coat of immaculate white. A unique mix of genetics combined to bring this albino wolf into the world. Though he lacks the bright fiery hues of many of his clansmen he is still a striking sight. The flesh of his paws and nose are a soft pink while his eyes are a rich, brilliant crimson, deep and multi-faceted like the depths of a garnet. Here and there he bears a few small scars but as of yet he has been lucky that the thickness of his coat hides them from sight. However, he looks forward to the day he gains noticeable scars that speak of his experience and his role as a warrior.

Skae stands a respectable 36" tall. While not the tallest or the brawniest of warriors he bears a muscular frame that speaks of his strength and speed. He carries himself with a distinct grace and elegance that hint at just how much he is a force to be reckoned with.

Personality: Skaelingr is proud, persistent and determined. While he knows he is not infallible he seeks to have confidence in himself and strive toward his goals. Skae will work for what he wants and will justify his reasons every step of the way. He never gives up and is very determined. However, hardheadedness and stubbornness are not the secret he utilizes toward attaining his goals, it is flexibility. Skælingr is able to re-survey a situation and take a different approach if necessary. He is open to learning the hard lessons. This makes him very adaptable and versatile.

Enigmatic and cool-tempered, Skae seems to have a veil over his thoughts. He seeks to keep his emotions under control at all times. They will not serve his purpose as a warrior and will only cloud his judgement and prevent him from getting things done. Skaelingr seeks to be efficient and precise, emotions lead to sloppiness and a detour towards ones goals. To those that do not know the ways of the Ademre this can make him seem aloof and difficult to get to know. Like many of his kind he chooses his words carefully and he is particularly secretive when it comes to himself. He is shrewd, practical and brilliant, especially being drawn toward the mysteries of life.

Skaelingr is the kind of wolf that makes for a powerful ally or a dangerous enemy. He's protective of those he views as his loved ones and friends. However he has a tendency to be reluctant to forgive and forget which can lead to permanent rifts between him and others. Skælingr doesn't tend to express controversial opinions in public but privately his views are strong one-way roads. Once he has decided something he is unlikely to change his mind.

Courageous and honorable, Skaelingr values honesty and believes that when a wolf gives their word they should keep it. He is careful in making commitments but when he does he seeks to keep them to the best of his ability. Often this will mean confronting his own fears and insecurities but in the long run he knows this will only make him a stronger warrior.

Taken the Oath?: Not yet, though he seeks to when he feels that he is truly ready for the responsibility.
Relation to the Pyre family: Cousin but I'm also fine with a classmate

Night had fallen but now that spring was here it was not followed by the hush of silence so often felt in winter. In a few weeks time summer would be here. He could hear the insects singing their serenades and the load sounds of frogs croaking not far off. A light breeze rustled through the leaves of the trees. Skaelingr could lose himself in the sounds of the warm spring night but he had a task to take care of. Now that the heat of day had passed and its harsh rays were no longer stinging his skin it was time to hunt.

Skaelingr's paws whispered across the ground and he moved like a ghost in the dark. The moon was just beginning to rise over the horizon, glowing in a brilliant gold dress. His thoughts drifted to Tor, the moon goddess, no doubt she was lovely tonight. He felt it somewhat a cruel irony that sun made him so uncomfortable but he only took it as a test from Fenris.

Stopping at a puddle to drink he stared at himself in the water for a moment as his deep crimson eyes stared back. In no time at all he would grow completely past his awkward youth. He desired to defeat his instructor at least once before his second year but it seemed he wasn't going to reach that goal. Skae started to scowl but quickly stopped himself. That display, though slight, of emotion was part of the reason he had yet to succeed. He needed to do better and apply himself. He wanted to climb as high as he could though, he doubted he would ever earn the honor of being the best among the Ademre. Probably just as well. He couldn't imagine how white markings would work on his coat. Skaelingr leapt over the puddle and continued on his way, honing his mind to the task at hand.
Please note that Pyralis is a ghost. It is up to you to decide what level your chars can see/hear her. She was killed by having her throat ripped apart. At times the wound may be visible and be actively bleeding.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Beware her Ladyship, her Excellence (etc. ad infinitum), Captain Pyralis Abraxas. Thread with at yer own risk! This cutthroat savage stands accused though not convicted of heinous crimes including murder, maiming, brawling, cursing, kidnapping and an unspeakable event involving a newt, two coyotes and a distressed potoo. Ye've been warned!

Name: Eris
Age: 1
Gender: Female
Appearance: 4
Although small and light in frame, Eris is surprisingly leggy. Her proportions are almost comically strange - although she's sure to grow out of some of it, it's likely she will always have longer limbs and larger paws. She is excellent at keeping pace and often ranges ahead of a group due to her longer stride. No one has ever accused her of being unable to keep up. Her black fur is short on her body and legs, but she has a thick ruff of fur similar to that of a bulkier male along her neck and trailing down her spine. It makes her look deceptively heavier than she is, creating the illusion of strength. This, coupled with the Ademre tendency towards stoicism, means most tend to steer clear of her anyway, which is how Eris would prefer it. Unless you get close, you would never tell that her eyes are somewhat vacant. There is an almost transparent milky halo eclipsing her red irises and pupils - Eris can still see shapes and some colors, but she is slowly and surely going blind. Her ears and nose are over-tuned as a result; this degenerative condition will certainly one day mean the end of her fighting days. Against the black of her fur, her white markings are a stark contrast. She finds it difficult to keep herself clean due to her weak eyesight, so they are often muddied.
Personality: Since Eris was born, she yearned to fight. She was the runt of her litter and was coddled as a result - since birth, she has been used to getting her way. As soon as her eyes opened as a puppy, she could tell something wasn't right. It wasn't long before her mother caught on and devoted much of her attention to the small and bleary-eyed pup. When it became apparent that her ailment was not just temporary and would worsen over time, she was cast aside. It was just after she had been weaned, and after her mother and siblings vacated the den, Eris found herself totally unmoored. When she had waypoints, her world was easy to navigate. With the den empty and cold, the young wolf stuck around the area for weeks. She howled and keened and raged alone until a lone wolf followed her cries.

She was taken in by the Ademre and taught the Lethani, then taught to fight. Fighting came more easily to her than they expected, but her eyesight grew worse even as her skills were honed. Eventually, she was persuaded to take the Oath, so that she could further serve the Ademre once her vision faded entirely. Eris is wholly committed to the Ademre, as she considers the Oath and the Lethani the one true mode of being. Without the Ademre, she is lost.

Due to her past, Eris is hesitant to trust. It takes a concerted effort to break through her initial emotional barriers. Once inside her walls, you will find that same pup that was abandoned outside of her den: spoiled rotten, needy, clingy, and surprisingly vulnerable. Having spent so much time relying on others has made her more than a little codependent. Tor help the wolves she attaches herself to. Once she decides she likes you, Eris is impossible to get rid of. To her, correcting the balance has something to do with surrounding herself with as many wolves as possible. If she is never alone, she will never be without sight. It is her most private thought.
Taken the Oath?: Yes - her rituals often border on self-flagellation, such as forcing herself to run gauntlets across new territories, inevitably leading to scars and sometimes graver injuries. She also performs a ritualized patrol of wherever she chooses to sleep at night.
Relation to the Pyre family: Adopted cousin
Rp Sample On overcast days, it was worse. Without the sun as a back light, the world slipped further into darkness. She was horrified to realize that there was little difference between the world with her eyes open and the world with her eyes closed. Eris nibbled her lip hard, struggling to keep her face neutral. When the sheer terror of her future yawned before her like this, nearly black as night, it was a challenge to maintain her commitment to the Ademre way of life. She wanted nothing more than to scream and rage and cry to excess, until she was winded and her eyes stung. Eris closed her eyes, gulped, and swished her tail. Nothing to either side of her rear. She focused on her breathing and finally lurched forward, feeling out each step carefully before she found a relatively uncomplicated rhythm.

The sounds of the forest around her were no longer soothing. Every cracking branch was a threat, every chirping bird a warning. Under her breath, the she-wolf let out the barest of whimpers. With eyes still shut, she cut to the right and inhaled deeply - on the air she could pick apart robins, a hare, and further away the musty scent of boar. Boar... It suddenly occurred to her just how lonely a life alone and without sight would be. There was no doubt in her mind that she would be easy prey. The only solution, she supposed, was to never be alone. Eris opened her eyes slowly. The world came back into focus as shades of light, trees blending into one another, bushes and flowers almost formless. There was a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. Was this an ambush? She stood entirely still and slowed her breathing, listening carefully to the rustling of the leaves and birdsong all around.

The Lethani: It is not only doing what is right, but knowing what is right to begin with. It is also a way to make the best of life, and it can be said that is the way to live properly, or with honor. Sometimes it seems counter-intuitive, but it is frequently stated that no man, woman or child among the Adem claims to know the Lethani. To kill without need is not of the Lethani. It is a complex topic that cannot be discussed explicitly. “To guide us in our actions. By following the Lethani, you act rightly. The Lethani is not a path, it is what helps us choose a path.”

Name: Kindle
Age: 2 years
Skills: Fighting & Hunting
Build and Height: Small + Light
Gender: Female
Alignment: True Neutral
Appearance: Kindle is fit and lithe, and to watch her move is to watch flames dance on the breeze. Slender and graceful, the she-wolf prides herself on a well-maintained appearance and hates for her soft fur to be dirtied in any way.

At it's base, Kindle's coat is a slate grey laid under a pattern of vibrant wispy hues. Upon her face, the grey deepens to a black-like coal. She is darkest around her eyes; the pitch there spreads outwards down the bridge of her nose and outwards to the edge of her face, where it splits off to frame the entirety of her petite face. Nestled within the black are her striking eyes, colored a golden-yellow. What remains of her pallet are stunning shades of purple and blue, crossing down from her shoulders to her chest and legs, down along her spine and to wrap around her hips. There is little semblance of uniformity or symmetry to the patterns, and why would they be? Her pelt is fire made flesh, and her colors run down along her as wild as flames themselves.

Personality: Kindle is a respectable and poised she-wolf. Her alignment should fall somewhere around a true neutral, as Kindle has learned to see both sides of a story. She will be be diplomatic and kind in the right situations, but has also learned to be unwielding in the face of adversity. She has a gentle side, though has also learned to value traits of intellect and strength. Kindle will aim to be dignified in all that she does, and will hold a certain pride in herself and her appearance. She maintains a clean, well-groomed coat at all times and hates to be dirtied.

Everyone may have a bad side, but Kindle practices mindfulness in order to keep it contained from the general population. It takes a lot to anger the she-wolf, but when enraged she will abandon nearly all her values in the sake of destruction and vengeance. Blue is the color of the hottest flames, and Kindle is no exception. She can fight ruthlessly and with cruelty when pushed hard, and though she will undeniably regret the times she loses control, in the heat of the moment she is driven purely through passion and emotion. She feels this is her largest flaw, as displaying emotions so openly is frowned upon by the Ademre.

Taken the Oath?: Not yet. She is still ashamed of her occasional temper and outbursts and does not wish to take the oath until she feels she has it completely under control.
Relation to the Pyre family: Cousin?

Head swung low, nostrils flaring to brush aside dirt with a deep inhale and exhale. This was it. This is where she tracked them too, the others of her kind. She was drawn helplessly by their scents, the knowledge of their presence enough to drag the small she-wolf through the earth's dying grass with ferocious speed. The female was partly greyscale while the rest of her was splattered by blue and purple hues. She did not stand out in the field, however; the moon had disappeared and there was no light for her vibrant markings to absorb and reflect. Golden eyes seemed to emit a soft glow as she peered through the darkness. Just ahead, the movements of others drew her attention. In the darkness she could barely see the crimson she knew that decorated them, though the familiarity in their scent was enough to grow her confidence.

Her traveling stopped suddenly, and one speckled paw was placed forward to spread daintily across the earth, long neck arching forward with head that tilted slightly to the side. She paused to stand in silence, bending her head to lick her chest once in a self-absorbed action. Kindle wanted to look perfect for when she'd meet them again. Blackened tail wagged softly behind her. Would they welcome her, she wondered? Would they even recognize her? Slender paw tapped upon the ground in excitement, and the she-wolf padded forward to greet her kin. The Ademre.

I will be opening this up shortly as a band, for anyone who wishes to snag an Ademre, or if anyone outside of this culture wishes to join the band, post here with what character you wish to join them.
