So Ra-Ra thought he wanted to get in some more training, or more accurately Velvette wasn’t impressed by his performance with the manatees. Not even a hint of dawn could be seen in the sky when Ve’s lashes fluttered open. The moon wasn’t even in the sky, and darkness reigned. A smirk played on her lips as the night welcomed her with open arms. The Songa woman navigated the branches with practiced grace as she silently made her way to her brother’s side.

She guessed he was sleeping, and her dainty paws carried her to where he usually curled up. Her bright magenta gaze reflected the light of the stars above as she aimed to place her lips close to his ear. With a voice that was soft, but forceful enough to wake him Velvette barked, ”Ramesh!” And then bound away as she awaited retaliation.

The sound of his name fled the dreams from his mind, to the point that they would be forever lost from his recollection. He startled awake like a cat, fur upright and legs splayed as he leapt to his paws. "wha-what?” he barked, vaguely remembering Velvette’s voice, and felt a growing certainty that this was her fault.

He rubbed sleep from his eyes and looked out into the darkness in confusion. “Sis?” he grumbled, a sleepy, annoyed edge to his tone. “If you want me to train in the morning, keeping me from sleep is stupid. Wake me up in the morning" he grumbled, no part of him even guessing that to her, this was morning. How could it be? Not a hint of light broke the darkness, it might as well be the middle of the night for all he knew.

Glaring blarry daggers in whatever direction she skulked would be all the retaliation he would offer her, before he curled back up on his paws, and tried to get back to sleep.

Fortune favors the brave

Her brother’s reaction completely satisfied her as he puffed up and looked disoriented. She scowled at him as he lifted his head and looked around confusedly. Not at all like a Songa should be startled. ”You should always sleep with one eye open, Ramesh.” He grumbled about it not even being morning yet as he rubbed his eyes and attempted to return to his sleep.

”This is why you almost got killed by a manatee of all things.” She teased him as she poked at his rear end, refusing to allow him to get comfortable again. ”Come on, I promise by the time we get to where we’re going the sun will be up.” She nosed him a little herder than necessary, but wanted to get her point across.

He was starting to think Velvette was paranoid, speaking of sleeping with one eye open. They slept in tree in one of the safest areas of the forest. They had no natural predators here. The only danger was the ones they brought upon themselves in their quest for trophies. Admittedly, their was pride and competition when it came to collecting adornments, and he did still need to gain something as impressive as her coat.

Still, couldn’t it wait until morning? he tried to curl up and find sleep again, but his stinky sister wouldn’t let him. She poked at his butt, and her words tried to shame him. He growled at her, grumpy and sleepy. "I’m not sure that’s a comfort" he grumbled, as she promised him it would be morning when they got to their destination.

However, he knew what a pig-headed woman his sister could be, and it seemed she was determined to whip him back into shape. He knew that he would find no peace until she got precisely what she wanted. He sighed and got to his paws slowly, feeling another sharp prod as she got him with her antlers. “i’m up, im up!” he complained, before scrambling along his branch and leaping to another one, just to get momentarily out of her range. “Where are we going, then?’ he grumbled. He might be going along with this, but he would make it obvious that it was under duress only.

Ramesh was really trying his hardest to go back to sleep. Velvette continued to scowl and poke at him though. While bothering him was a huge amusement to her, she did feel a little disappointed in him. Velvette devoted her life to training and learning the Songa way, she still had a long way to go to be considered true soundless. Ramesh seemed to have even further to go.

He grumbled at her, but his thoughts on her were correct. He would find no peace until he had gone through her training routine with her. Maybe if he wasn’t exhausted she would even spar with him. Or maybe she would spar with him even if he was exhausted. Finally he found his way to his paws, and Ve couldn’t help the huge grin that spread over her features.

Victory was hers. Ramesh bid a quick retreat so she could no longer pester him. She looked up with her stunning magenta eyes. The sun was already starting to light the sky. They were running late already. ”Your favorite thing, Brother. Swimming.” He had almost died in the water, it was time to really develop this skill in her littermate. Velvette wouldn’t wait for his complaints, and began to lead the way down the tree to the little bit of banky beach below. They were going to swim the channel to the oaks on the other side first. A fitting work out right after making up. They’d be nice clean and refreshed by the time they reached the other side.
