1x1 beginner spar

the whole anyone wanna go?! yell died on her lips pretty damn quickly. entering into the battlefield, Morgan's teal gaze looked around the terrain without words. perhaps it was awe. perhaps it was nerves. either way, she was ready to stretch her legs again. she knew that she was still recovering from her travels but if she had to sit on her paws any longer she'd explode. not one for patience, the young piebald just wanted to have a good bout. she had no idea who would show up, but her head did lift to call out for anyone on her level.
she knew her limitations. she knew she wasn't that great. Morgan was a novice compared to many other wolves, born and raised to do battle. she didn't have training. she had instinct. boldness aside, her nerves were shot and she danced a bit, swaying on her feet as she waited. these places were a dime a dozen in other realms. a place to throw down and let loose. her eyes danced with excitement as she stood, head whipping around at the slightest sound. whoever was going to show up, better get to it fast! or she'd just leave 'em here.

Now that she had been reunited with Balerion, Veraxes had regained some of her old vigor. A full belly was truly a mystical thing - when before she had been weak and pitiful, now she was strong. Since her strength had been returned to her, it was time to continue honing her skills. She would not be a disappointment. To rest now would only waste her time.
The one thing that remained the same, regardless of the change of scenery, were lands like these. Proving grounds, soaked in old blood and the bitterness of years and years and years of defeat. Veraxes would not suffer defeat today! She had performed all of the rituals needed for success - there was no doubt, she was unstoppable. When Morgan called, Veraxes raced to the summons eagerly.
Upon arrival, she wasted no time. Like a bullet, Vera aimed herself directly at Morgan's side, aiming to tumble them both to the ground. Grappling with larger wolves was something she was intimately familiar with. If she could survive Vaelnaris tussles, this stranger was nothing. Veraxes was absolutely wordless in her assault, a creature of only one mind: win win win win.

she didn't have to wait long. that was a damn good thing. she hated waiting around for people to show up. especially strangers. you never knew what you got. a 'whoop' of approval shot out of her jaws as the other woman rushed toward her. it was quickly caught up as the stranger aimed to knock her down. her heftier bulk prevented her from otherwise cascading to the ground. she felt her body lean to the side before springing back up.
she wasn't going to be thrown down so easily! my turn she thought, all in wicked fun as she turned. aiming to push her muzzle against the other's side and using her weight to throw the other woman perhaps off-balance, her jaws opened. regardless if it worked or not, she'd try to grasp the neck ruff of the smaller wolf. to hold her and control her movements if possible. her teeth were reeled in, not wishing to actually injure them. just a gentle but firm hold.

Vera hit the larger female like a brick wall. She gasped, the air knocked completely from her lung. Okay - time to regroup. Maybe sparring so soon after washing up on the shores of this strange land was more dangerous than she'd thought. Did she ruin one of her rituals? This shouldn't be possible. Vera groaned and shook her head vigorously, trying to gather her senses. As she shook herself, she felt Morgan's hold on her neck tighten. Vera snarled, wildly wrenching herself to and fro to release her smaller body from the larger female's grasp.
If there was one thing that should still hold true, it was that larger wolves inevitably got tired faster. Vera prayed that her shake would allow her to put some distance between herself and Morgan and allow her to regroup. Seeing as they were locked in close quarters, she tried to make the most of it anyway and aim a good few bites at Morgan's nearest shoulder.

the other flailed in her intended grasp. Morgan was trying her best to hold on. her jaws slipped a few times but she held firm. as she did this, the other woman tried to bite at her shoulder. a few snaps broke through her thick fur, causing her to flinch. some blood even welled up against her piebald shoulder. but it wasn't enough to make her let go. at least, not on the other's terms. quickly, she would let go but trying just as quickly to use her weight once more.
though her shoulder did sting a bit, she'd continue on. she'd raise her paws, trying to crash her upper body around the shoulders of the other. she couldn't do this while holding as she was. it'd be too awkward for her, and it'd hurt her neck. her aim was to stun the woman and re-position her jaws around the scruff of her neck. before, she had been hanging on by the side. now, she'd try to push the other to the ground and firmly lie on top of her to restrict her movements further.
Morgan knew the risks. if she failed to crash down on the other woman, failed to make contact, they could easily get a few blows in. she was a bit slower due to her lack of training, compared to the nimble being before her.

Her muscles were straining and bulging with effort. After so many days of simply chasing doggedly, they weren't used to moving in such strange and intricate ways. Vera knew that her body would fail her soon, but she wouldn't grow stronger without stretching herself to her limits. At the sight of blood, she snarled victoriously. This female was coy and weak - why was she treating her with kid gloves? A spar was for more than training, it was for honor.
As Morgan let her go, Vera took the opportunity to duck out from underneath her grasp. Adrenaline cooled her blood like liquid nitrogen. There was no time to think, only time to act. As she ducked out of Morgan's reach, Vera felt teeth graze her own shoulder from the scuffle. The bite aimed for her neck had been misdirected, but still landed. Vera cussed under her breath, but the sting of pain brought her to a knife's edge of alertness.
Hoping that Morgan was still off balance from the fumbled grapple, Vera snarled and grabbed for just below the female's throat. If she didn't end it now, her body would give out. She hoped for a quick resolution so that she could lick her wounds in peace. If it was a loss... well, there was much more training to be done.

the woman was getting desperate. Morgan could clearly see that. there was new fierceness in the way she threw herself at the piebald, an eagerness to end this now and worry later. that was a stupid move. speed eventually gave out, so plan it carefully and see what one could do with what little they had... that's what she was taught in passing. endurance was something the other had, but it didn't seem she was using it properly. as the woman reached up to grasp her throat, Morgan pulled back just in time. strands of her thick fur were probably woven into the other's teeth. she hadn't escaped totally unscathed. a few scratches would make its way to heal-town.
"that's enough" Morgan say, panting. she was reaching the end of her rope too. this was supposed to be a spar; to learn more hands on. it was clear to her that she was the victor, but she made no move to dominate the other woman. she merely stood there, a few paces away in case the other was sore about losing. "you fought very well. thanks for the spar." she attempted a wide grin, her tail slowly flowing behind in a friendly way. the piebald learned a lot and she hoped the other wasn't upset. but sometimes you lost. even she realized that.
