Rhyme had accepted and welcomed him into Abaven, and that was good enough motivation to get starting on his promise. when he came to the pack's border, he said he would hunt. not a day went past after his admittance did he focus entirely on that. a formal den aside, Benedict could do without that in favor of hunting. though today, the early hours of the day, he was more into a solo one. not wishing to wake the rest of his new pack, he'd wander toward the rapids and sit down before the water. wolves did fish. rarely. sometimes. okay, it was his favorite way to hunt.

he liked the taste of fish and hoped Abaven would appreciate his efforts. there was no need to climb rank; he was just doing his job. he didn't care if he got a new title. ignorance was bliss, and he was unaware if any troubles had befallen the pack while he was still traveling to the Boreas. making sure his shadow didn't fall on the water, he'd see the fish swimmingly idly below him. with a flash of his large paws, he'd hook one of the more common species and swipe it out of the water. it flopped indignantly on the shore, where he swiftly killed it via a clean bite. satisfied, Benedict settled down and waited for the water to be still again before continuing on with his hunt.

The young memoire girl was recovering quickly with her brush with the recent fire. Had Allegro not shown up she might not have been standing there at that moment. Twig looked up to the sky as the sun poured forth from a clear sky. It wasnt as hot today as it had been recently, Autumn's cool grasp was wrapping them up. Her carefree disposition had been disrupted, and her need to do something with her second.. or third at this point, chance at life.

She lifted her small thin frame from the ground and made her way to the rapids for a drink as she contemplated her life's choices. Her magenta gaze fell on the pale man as she got closer. She was ashamed that she hadnt ywt gotten to know her pack mates, but she had a suspension this man was new as well.

"Hello, she offered softly as she approached him. She didnt miss the fish at his side. "are you fishing? Can you teach me?" she asked unabashedly while forgetting her manners and not mentioning her name.

a soft voice made him look up from the waters. twisting his neck, he'd face the source to see a young woman standing there. she did smell like Abaven, so there was no reason for him to tell her to go away. this probably had been her home before it was his. plus, Benedict was happy to interact with anyone in the pack. " 'lo there" he'd reply, his deep tone ringing quietly toward her so not to scare the fish away. she even had a request; to teach her to fish.

chuckling softly, he'd motion with his tail to the side for her to take a place. "sure, if ye don't mind m' company" he hadn't taught anyone in two years what he even knew himself. he tried to remember the basics. not letting the shadow fall, waiting between each fish for the others to re-gather... "why don't ye sit beside me, so I can teach ye better?" he invited formally. it'd do no good for her to sit... say, on the other side of the rapids. "m' Benedict, by the by." the man added in with a warm smile.

She caught the man’s attention easily enough, he shifted his features and greeted her quietly. She didn’t need an invitation, and unabashedly slunk forward. She crouched low and settled on the bank beside him. Deep lavender gaze remained on the rapids as she searched the moving water for shapes of fish. She knew a couple hunters had tricks about fishing, but she was completely at a loss on catching the aquatic creatures. ”Of course not,” she muttered as he made sure she didn’t mind his presence. She wouldn’t have made an approach if she didn’t.

”I’m Twig.” she offered with a smile and quick glance in his direction as she allowed herself to become transfixed on the water again. ”So how do you catch a fish?” She asked as she leaned forward a bit more. The stakes were pretty high today, the fish he’d already caught was smelling mighty tasty at that point.

she boldly approached, unfaltered in her steps. Benedict uttered a small rumble when she introduced herself, smiling. Twig. simple. he liked it. said Twig went to the task at hand, asking how to catch a fish. he'd return his gaze to the water, but withheld a paw to tap at the surface. "I like t' mimic insects" he knew it was a feline thing, but he had also been taught to do this by his parents "if the fish think yer dinner, they'll flock to ye." he spoke quietly enough as a few trout swam over to investigate.

Benedict watched them from above, their mouths sucking at the surface of the water as if trying to find their own food. "make sure yer shadow don't fall though" he adjusted himself as he withdrew his paw before flashing out, hooking a fish with his claws. the fish scattered again. he'd quickly kill the one he had with a quick nibble to the neck. adding it to his pile, he'd turn to Twig. "ye gotta be fast and don't grab more than ye can. fish are... a bit stupid. they'll come back if you put food down or think you put food down." baiting a fish was always entertaining because they fell for the same thing.

"why don't ye try?" he invited.

She’d never tried fishing, but her eyes were wide her ears perked and her full attention was given to her teacher. She watched carefully as he explained each step, and nodded along as he softly offered his quick tips and tricks. At the end he expertly removed the fish from the water, and suddenly it was dead at his paws. Twig was obviously impressed with her jaw half open as he told her to take a try.

”I’ll try but that was incredible.” She took up her position, laying her breast across the ground as she was careful to keep her shadow on the earth. Her features were focused, ears erect and eyes pinholes as she watched the water. With the utmost care she micked his motions, embodying the fly. Being the fish food. Suddenly they were there! Autumn somehow restrained herself as the trout gulped at the air. A victorious grin played on her features as she reached out and swiped at the fish with her claws just as Benedict had.

And then she was suddenly in the water. With hardly as whisper Twig fell into the clear stream. She had over extended her arm and thrown herself off balance. Only her front part was really dunked but she was sure she’d ruined the whole rest of the days fishing for her teacher. Scrambling to right herself a bright blush raced across her features. Her pale fur showing every bit of her pink skin. ”I’m so sorry!” She offered as her caramel ears fell to her skull. Had she gotten him wet? Was he going to have to find another fishing hole?

far from being annoyed or frustrated or even angry, Benedict bounded to his paws when she fell in. the rapids weren't as swollen in this summer due to the heat, but the rocks could easily hurt the young woman. "are ye okay?" he asked in a rush, worry clear on his features. the fish had long since vanished after she tried to bait them, but they would return. what was important was that Twig wasn't hurt. she had been doing so well, he felt it was a shame that she had fallen in and scared away the fish. not for his sake - he already had a steady pile of them - but for herself.

he reached down, offering her his shoulder or a paw or what have you if she needed help getting out. his coat was soaked, but it was refreshing. water dripped in a steady rhythm. "dun't worry about it" Benedict shook his head as the girl sputtered through an apology. she seemed to be fine, but you never know. he mentally checked her over, realizing that his lack of herbal knowledge would make it so he'd have to run for help if it came to that. "s' better than being hot" he'd deeply chuckle, shaking his fur a bit. "the fish will come back in a bit. ye can try again if ye want." but he wasn't going to force her.
