Solor knew his heart was broken, to the point where no breath came without pain. He had lost his will to live, despite the beautiful children he had fathered. He didn’t want to be here, not without her. She had been the reason for his living for so long, that he had forgotten how to function without her. He had joined Abaven to be beside her, had learned healing to understand her craft. He had nothing of his own, wanted nothing of his own.

His chest hurt, and he knew that he was dying. He could not eat, nor drink, and rising out of bed was a struggle so intense he was not certain it was worth it. Not without her, never without her. He knew he should feel something, some remorse, some pain, for leaving behind his children, leaving them without a father. He knew Shaye would adopt them, and raise them as her own. They had that, they didn’t need him. Nobody needed him, now that she was gone.

Beat had been morose since the death of his mother, his heart feeling like it was being pulled under by a heavy weight every time he opened his eyes and remembered her final moments. He clung to his father now more than ever although his sole remaining parent seemed aloof since the death of his mother. He trotted up to his father and dropped into a playful bow in front of him.

“Hey dad, wanna play?” He asked hopefully, reaching up to tug on his fathers ear in the hopes that it would lift his spirits some. Their father had always been thin but now he seemed thinner than ever, his ribs showed and his nose was always dry, but he was far too young to understand the complexities of grief.

Tempo wasn't exactly aware of his grief, not in the ways he would understand once he got older but that didn't mean he wasn't grieving. But the boy was doing his best to hide it, at least around his father. His father had been obviously sad since his mother left and Tempo had taken it upon himself to desperately try and cheer him up. There was also the distance his father was putting between himself and his sons, somewhere in the back of Tempo's mind he was becoming fearful his father was going to leave him too, though he wasn't quite aware enough to understand that, or how right he was. However much Solor didn't think anyone needed him, the boy did. Much as he loved his aunt Shaye there was a hole in his heart she'd never be able to fill, soon to be a second one. So the boy had taken to putting on a brave face, at least around his father.

When he was by himself the boy was withdrawn, almost numb to the world around him. Noticeably uncharacteristic of the boy. Today though as Beat's words pulled Tempo from his sleep, or rather the pretend sleep he was in. Slowly he blinked his eyes open, rose to his paws and yawned. Before turning his gaze on his brother. Tempo put on a smile as he spotted his brother trying to coax his father into play, he made his tail wag and padded over. "Yes! Play with us!" He said, trotting over beside his brother, aiming to playfully chew on Beat's ear and giving his father the most hopeful puppy dog eyes he could.

In restless dreams,

Without his mom around Pitch had become slightly irritable, and even withdrawn. He had no real way of belonging completely with his brothers. He had a better nose and hearing than them, and they could see. He couldn't rough house like them, he never knew when they were pouncing and even though he was bigger than them he was kind of more delicate. Besides he didn't really like to rough house. He preferred the more softer things in life. He hadn't missed the new smell from his dad, much like it was with momma.

He padded over and plopped himself down with his shoulders and back against his dad's side. He could feel the way his ribs felt, later he'd learn that the smell was death and that his dad had starved himself to it but for now it was just how he was. He felt cold like momma too. He laid his head on his paws as Beat and Tempo tried to coerce Solor into playing. He huffed again for probably the umpteenth time that day. He didn't care to talk or play. He just knew something was not right in the pit of his gut and he needed to be here with his dad.
