Frost covered the southern lands, glistening in the morning sun as Chrysanthos worked his way to Orchard. Wintergreen was on his mind, a powerful pain killer if he could just find it. It was a rare herb but with a little patience he felt he could find it and finally conclude his winter gathering. Just in time to by the look of it. The sun would rise soon and melt the frost but even so it was a strong reminder of the changing seasons to come. Wintergreen was typically found on sandy soil but he'd heard from a lone healer that it could be found in the Orchard so all he needed to do was find a sandy patch under some nice, tall trees. He started in an area where a number of trees had fallen some time ago, likely from storms. Autumn would be a good time to hunt for wintergreen as there would likely still be some red berries on the plant this far south.

Valdís wandered outside of Legion's borders for a chance to clear her head. She'd been having nightmares and she wasn't quite sure what they'd meant. It lead to little sleep and was affecting her ability to focus. Her workload with patrol left her exhausted in the evenings and so she had little free time to take care of projects that were stacking up. Projects that she should've been working on instead of wandering in the Orchard but she didn't give much thought to that. Settling down in an open area she started digging at the earth. She wanted to experiment with shadows and the turning of the solar wheel. She was working when she spied a rust colored wolf who turned to look at her. "Hello, there. Looking for something?" Chrysanthos kept up his searching all morning until the sun had risen nearly halfway into the sky. He kept his eyes peeled for any sign of the herb he wanted but as moved into the opening a voice spoke to him and he jumped, startled. Chrys whipped his head around to see a gray woman laying there in the dirt. "Ah, yes. I'm a healer and I'm hunting for some wintergreen if you've seen any?" He didn't know if the woman was another healer but he decided he may as well ask. Judging from her muscular frame and noticeable scars she was likely some kind of warrior.

A healer, hm? She had suspected based on the pack on his back though it was possible a pack carrier was also a hunter or trader of some kind. Valdís shook her head. "No, I do not know what wintergreen is. My name is Valdís, might I know yours?" She might as well glean a little information from the man. She could tell from his scent that he was an Olympian wolf. Valdís continued work on her sun dial. This was more an experiment rather than a permanent piece. A sundial in the Orchard would do wolf kind little good. She sketched a circle in the dirt with a horizontal like through it to represent the horizon and to give her some place to start. Now she needed a good, straight stick. "Talk" "You" Think

As he suspected the woman was not a healer. She stated that her name was Valdís and he caught the scent of one of the other southern packs. He knew little of the other pack. "My name is Chrysanthos Beaufort, a pleasure." He would stay and chat if he weren't so intent on hunting for wintergreen. He'd spent nearly half a day looking. Time passed in silence as he continued his search until at last he caught the telltale scent of the wintergreen herb. In a moment he tracked the scent to the source.

The small creeping shrub stood half a foot from the ground, nestled beneath some Rhododendrons. The shiny, oval leaves swayed lightly in the breeze. He wanted the whole plant this time and so he set to digging until he had freed the whole plant from the soil. Snipping some of the creeping tendrils to fully free it he added the wintergreen to his pack. The oil would be useful but he didn't have a good way to extract it and so he opted to dry the leaves for tea and for a base that he could use in a tincture if needed. He just needed to find a good place for drying the herbs. He worked his way back pausing long enough to smile at the woman and bid a farewell before he went on his way.

Valdís found a good stick and she carefully picked up in her jaws and placed it in the middle of the circle. She eyed the shadow that the stick created and decided she didn't like the placement of the like. She delicately smudged it out and then drew a new one on either side of the stick to better represent the horizon like. Where the shadow fell would correspond to the suns position in the sky which was growing shorter with noon approaching. She would want to make something more permanent near her den but in truth it was more of an amusement. Any wolf with sense could tell time by the position of the sun in the sky and she did not know how cloudy weather would affect the sun dial's usefulness. The healer appeared and bid her a good day and she nodded and did likewise, pausing as she watched him go. "Talk" "You" Think
