Valdís had taken a risk and swam out to the island that was near the basin. It was a short swim thankfully but the results had been disappointing. The island was indeed green but it was from the sand and not from any of the plant life. There were a number of shrubs and a few trees but most were brown and gold and there seemed to very little that was edible for prey. She sighed. This was going to be a rough winter, of that she was sure and she was starting to wonder how they were going to feed everyone. She took a swipe at a nearby brush in frustration. There were very few times that she left Auster, but she did this time again for a few days. She didn't have anywhere particular in mind since she didn't know anyone outside of the Empire but...sometimes she wondered if that was true. As she got older, she began to wonder about her father. Who was he? Did he know about her? Was that where her mom had gone? She had questions but never sought out an answer. And she wasn't sure if she should. Did any of the other Abraxas know? She sighed as she made her way onto the strange green island, but it wasn't green because of plant life. Brows furrowed as she sniffed at the ground, nose wrinkling at the scent. Before long, she spotted footprints not too far from where she had come ashore and decided to follow them. The tracks were fresh and she was sure someone else had arrived shortly before she had. And of course, she couldn't deny her curiosity. She followed them until she spotted an older she-wolf, someone she didn't recognize but she didn't rule out the possibility that maybe she could've been at one of those huge gatherings in the Boreas Battlefield. Valdís continued pacing around the barren landscape, bending her head to smell again at the ground. Her lips curled back in disgust. Yes, she was sure the the green color was caused by fungus or bacteria. Frustrated that her effort resulted in nothing she turned to go when she became aware that she was not alone. She turned to see a younger woman who asked her about the land. "I don't know, I think there is some kind of fungus or bacteria that is giving the land its color and that may also be what is preventing plant life from growing." She turned fully to face the other woman. "An unfortunate turn, to swim all this way for naught." She rolled her shoulders forward and cracked her neck.
