Caribou-boo

Éldi worked his way north to where the weather was cooler and much easier to deal with. He was done with the tropics. The heat just made him more irritable than usual and he was anxious to get that nervous energy out through a good hunt that might also yield some useful materials for crafting. As such he'd been following a herd of caribou out onto the Marble Wash. The morning light was just breaking in gentle golds, turning the clouds a beautiful rose color. The sunlight striking the terrain of the Marble Wash made it seem to sparkle and come alive. It really was a lovely place but he wasn't here for sight-seeing, he was here to hunt and his quarry was just ahead.

I have toured the endless starlight…
Aerndis continued her tour of the north but she wasn't having the best of luck. As far as she could tell there was only one pack up here in the north and it most definitely was not Legion. However, as she set her nose to tracking she soon picked up a familiar scent. Éldi? She seemed to recall that that was the name of the man she had hunted musk ox with. Was he hunting again? Grinning she followed his scent and found him working his way through the marble wash.
"Hey," she said softly. "Éldi, right? Are you out hunting?"

Cloud had decided to make a trip up north to visit the pack, but on the way had found one of the Hjarrandi band members scents, and even the scent of someone from one of the other packs. Legion, wasn't it? He had learned all the pack scents thanks to his constant hunting and tracking of prey animals, so he altered his course towards the marble wash instead. Winterfell could wait a bit, it's not like they were expecting him anyway. Upon arriving at the wash, he spotted both wolves ahead and he quietly came closer until he noticed the caribou scent. Ah, so that's what they were after? Maybe they could use some help then? Standing near the top of the rise, he cleared his throat to announce himself. "On the trail of some caribou?" He knew the Northern lands inside and out. Maybe they could use his help with the hunt.

Eisleif trailed after her band mate Éldi, though she wasn’t really doing it consciously. The way he walked made her think he might be burning off restless energy, but the north liked to call to her as well. The cold of the volcanic winter had been a blessing, but the warmth where they settled was overbearing.
As the sun began to set she caught up with the younger wolf, but she remained displaced from the grouped that gathered around the Hjarrandi hunter. She gave him a nod and a small grin but didn’t approach too close. She watched carefully the beautifully marked woman and the loaned band member. She was older, but she wouldn’t step on Éldi’s toes. He could ask her to go wherever he needed her.

Éldi was crouched there thinking when a familiar voice caught his attention. He turned to see Aerndis and nodded at her words. He'd remembered hunting with her and two other wolves earlier as the sought to bring down a musk ox. She wasn't the only one to arrive. She was followed by an unfamiliar man and a woman he knew, Eisleif. He grinned and glanced at the strange man. "I am indeed, the name's Éldi. You're welcome to join us if you like." He turned to Eisleif. "Good to see you Eisleif. This is a good chance to fill our bellies and maybe get a few trinkets along the way. Follow me!"
He slunk forward across the wash to the other side where a field stretched out before them and the herd of caribou were grazing lazily. Above them circled a raven, Askr. The bird dove gracefully among and around the beasts, searching for weakness. He soon flew back to report to Éldi and the gathered wolves.
"The herd seems generally weakened from the harsh winter but there is a male with a limp. He is grazing on the southern side of the herd. See, that one there with the big bunch of fur on his hind end." Éldi followed the birds gaze until he picked out the male. Apparently it had had some difficulty shedding its winter coat as a big clump of fur was still clinging to it.
"Alright excellent. We'll want to get as close as we can. Aerndis and I will try to move so we can cut the bull off from the herd to the north. That will leave about five or six that will need to be dealt with. If you," he looked to Cloudburst, "and Eisleif can separate the male from the others and would it then I will do my best to deliver a killing blow but it will take time so we all need to do our best to pin that thing down. Sound good?"
Well, good or not, it was the only plan he had and so he slunk forward, working carefully and slowly until he was in position. He waited for the others and when it seemed they were in position as well he burst forth as quickly as he could snapping at the caribou, startling them into a frenzy as he tried to separate the main portion of the herd from the stragglers.

Aerndis was pleased to see more wolves arrive. The greater their numbers the more likely the were to succeed in this hunt and she very much wished to succeed. She could feel her stomach starting to growl. Éldi took command of the hunt as he did last time and part of her wondered if she needed to start being more assertive. She was his senior yet she took a back seat to hunts. Well, duh. Of course she did. She'd spent the majority of her life on her own. Aerndis excelled at solo hunting but she had little idea how to direct a pack hunt.
She listened to his words and nodded. It sounded good to her. They soon started moving. She followed along with Éldi, working to keep her body as low as she could. She seemed to recall caribou were colorblind to red if not all colors, but it was best for her to stay as hidden as possible. When Éldi attacked, so did she. The caribou exploded into a flurry of activity, scattering at the presence of the wolves. She snapped and snarled, just ducking as one kicked out at her. Oh boy, this was crazy!
