The festival had been a success, and so had the interest in the tournament that had been announced that he was hosting. After all the participants were accounted for, he led the march to the battlefield where the tournament would take place. He was curious to know who would win the first rounds as well as who would reign supreme at the end of it all. There were many he recognized, but also many he didn't. Regardless of who won the tournament, they'd be crowned Winterfell's Champion until the next tournament. After everyone was gathered, he started off by announcing the first of the fights. "First round for the expert division starts with Valdis and Justice. Remember, this is a dominance fight. Just do your best and may the best wolf win. Good luck you two!" The Northern King moved off to the side to spectate as well as start the other matches. He was curious to know who'd win the first rounds, and of course, who would reign supreme at the end of it all. Valdís grinned with excitement as she faced off against her opponent. "Well, well, we meet again. I was hoping for a rematch." She remembered the winter tournament some time back and if she wasn't mistaken she'd dueled Justice then. Valdís didn't waste too much time with chit chat. She quickly set her defenses and prepared her attack. Jynette was nearby and Embla took to the air. They were ready.

Valdís burst forth and charged for Justice, her legs eating up the distance as she sought to come at Justice facing in at a forty-five degree angle to the front of the ebony woman's right shoulder. She attempted to slam her weight behind the point of her right shoulder into the side of Justice's right shoulder halfway up from her elbow. She hoped to use her momentum to bowl the other woman over. However, as Justice was bigger Valdís knew she'd need a little help so at the same time as her weight shifted to accomodate her shoulder her left forepaw attempted to sneak under her opponent's chest to hook Justice's left forepaw with the intention of jerking it back toward herself, seeking to over balance the larger female.

At the same time her head swung to her right, jaws parting as she attempted to catch the throat of her opponent. Her upper fangs sought hold behind Justice's jaw just below her right ear while her lower fangs sought to reach beneath Justice's throat for a solid grip just behind the bottom of Justice's lower jaw.

Justice shared a grin with her opponent. Valdis, the former Talis member who'd crippled Regulus and she'd faced at the winter tournament that one year. She was a worthwhile opponent, and one she wouldn't mind losing to if it came down to it.

Not that she intended to let that happen.

Valdis' companions readied themselves, prompting Justice to wryly recall her previous - and then forgotten - enthusiasm for the idea of companions of her own. Whoops, shouldn't keep putting that off.

Valdis charged, and while she aimed low Justice was short enough to make it awkward for her, especially since she dropped into a crouch to bring her own shoulder to the level of Valdis' forelegs and dug her claws into the ground for grip, in the hopes of letting Valdis' own momentum trip her over Justice's shoulder. This unfortunately put Justice's face at the level of Valdis' attempt to hook her foreleg, earning her a hefty smack in the muzzle from Valdis' paw, but Valdis' bite snapped into empty air where Justice's neck no longer was. Justice snapped at Valdis' left foreleg in retaliation for the smack on the muzzle, seeking to slash it deeply rather than grip it since she didn't want to do anything to stop the possibility of flipping her opponent.

Valdís quickly recalculated as her opponent ducked, her weight shifting back into her hind legs as she drew her front legs sharply up to leap. Justice's upper fangs snagged her left forepaw, tearing light lacerations along the back of it before Valdís had it raised. She leaped forward, with her upper body twisting in just enough to bring her torso parallel with Justice's back. She sought to come down, jaws open for Justice's back, seeking to snag the ebony woman's spine between her jaws, just in front of the other woman's hips. Her forelegs sought to wrap around the woman's sides, just in front of her hind legs, while she'd try to bring her hind limbs in as close to her body as she could though likely she was just going to have to accept that she was now vulnerable back there.
