Going through the Fjord wasn’t the easiest task but Memento was bound and determined to head into Boreas again. There were things here she wanted to see… but her mother wasn’t so sure she should be out wandering these lands. She wasn’t keen on letting her go anywhere without a guardian and Meme had, truthfully, tired of it. On an overcast day she seemed even more ghostly than usual. Her pale eyes were narrowed with determination. She’d be into Boreas and back home before her mama even knew she had been gone. Plus she’d be able to find some sort of souvenir to bring back… then her mom couldn’t even be mad! It was the perfect plan.
Memento Mori flicked her right ear and lifted her head as a sound drew her attention. Somewhere, on the ledge off to her left, she was sure she noticed something move through the trees. A shadow-y figure… wait, no… she narrowed her eyes and called out.
“Not nice to be the only one playing hide and seek! What do you want?”

He'd taken a trip outside of pack lands today, mostly out to hunt, but he had found something better. He had managed to track a young girl, and honestly, he had never seen anything like her before. She had long hair cascading down towards the ground, and he studied her from a distance, keeping out of sight on another ledge as he used the trees for cover. He blended in well with the shadows, his dark coat making it quite easy for him. Perhaps he hadn't been careful and hidden enough in the last moment as he watched her, because she suddenly called out. “Not nice to be the only one playing hide and seek! What do you want?” Hide and seek? He had never played that game before, and had never played much of anything before...perhaps she was still younger than he thought...Fine. If she had spotted him then there was no use in hiding. He stepped out to the edge of the ledge he was on, staring down at her from a few feet above. "Hide and seek is for babies. You should be more aware of your surroundings." He said in a low tone, piercing blue gaze settled unblinkingly on her.

A male emerged from the treeline and stood closer to the edge where Memento could actually see him. He was dark furred, blue eyed… Were it not for his tone and word choice, how he seemed to look down on her more than in just a literal sense, she might have liked those eyes; blue was her favorite color after all. But no… the way he spoke reminded her of the stranger that had fought her daddy; the way they talked was similar. Like they were better than anyone else. It was enough to irritate Memento right off the bat.
"Oh, is it?” Memento Mori’s words were cool as she spoke. Her ears were flicked back against her skull. “My bad. Though I suppose being a baby is better than watching young women from the treeline like a creep. Your mommy didn’t bother to teach you any manners, did she? If jerks like you even have one.” Her fur was floofed up already, hackles raised as she looked upon the male with defiant pale eyes. She didn’t care if she was getting smart back; wolves who had a superiority complex didn’t deserve to stand so high.

He watched her carefully. Condescendingly even. He looked down on her. While one might have considered her pretty, she was. Sort of. The sort of part being that she was too young. Not that he was old himself but she was hardly a yearling it seemed. Her words didn't bother him for the most part. It wasn't until she said something about his mom that he instantly bristled and his teeth bared, a snarl ripping from his throat. "You know nothing about my mother! She's taught me more than you know you little brat! And you're going to regret even saying that!" He briefly wondered if his brother would have reacted differently. If he would have gotten this pissed about it or not. But he wasn't his brother. He was different than his calmer, more levelheaded sibling. All the pain and turmoil and guilt he felt over not being able to help heal her from the sickness that took hold of her body began to consume him, and this little brat would be the outlet that he didn't know he needed.
He immediately launched himself from the ledge he was on, aiming to land squarely on the kid or at least close enough to knock into her and force her off balance. A guttural snarl erupted from him, and whether he was successful or not he sought to wrap his forelegs around her hips or wherever he could grasp in an effort to help shove her to the ground. His jaws opened, teeth aiming to score across her back in a vicious manner. To draw blood and make her cry out in pain.
All he saw right now was red as the pain fueled him on. In his minds eye, he could see his mothers kind face. Her sweet and soothing words. Her...whole and healthy. He could feel the bite of tears pricking his eyes, and it only served to anger him for what this girl had said. She didn't know him. She didn't know his mother. Didn't know the way she had desperately clung to life to keep from leaving them. Didn't know how long she tried to be there for them for as long as she could before her illness inevitably tore her away from them...
He thought about the distance between him and Iroh. How much time they had lost together. How they both seemed to walk different paths. About how Malleus died. How the Empire seemed to barely hold onto its seams. He didn't know it now, but it had all piled up and now he was taking it out on this girl. A girl whose name he didn't know, and didn't care to know. A girl who had seemingly offended him simply by claiming his mother hadn't taught him well enough. Or at least...that's how he'd taken it. It didn't matter to Zagan though. Whether he was in the right or wrong. All he wanted to do was feel something other than the emotional pain he felt. He'd take whatever consequence he had to if it meant he could distract himself from the pain of it all.

Memento didn't know him, no, but she was realizing in her own way that differences were in all creatures. The female didn't care if he got offended; in her eyes he shouldn't have said what he did. Not that her own words were any better… she spoke harshly based on a past experience with a similar demeanor. It wasn't right… but Memento Mori cared little for "right" and "wrong" or "good" and "bad". Her own views, regardless of if she had a fair reason for feeling that way, were unshakable. The girl had inherited her mother's stubbornness.
He got defensive and Meme realized she hit a nerve. He was either overly sensitive or his mom really hadn't been there much for whatever reason. Memento frowned, the tiniest but of guilt flaring up in her but as she thought of her other dad, Pegasus. She hadn't met him at all… her mom told her stories though…
She couldn't dwell on it though. The boy launched himself off the cliff and Meme hadn't expected it. Hackles raised the fancy siamese-esc youth snarled in response as her body tried to mirror what she saw Cel doing around her mother's protective figure that day. Her eyes narrowed and her ears fell back to lay flat against her skull. She tried to brace herself with weight distributed across each limb evenly. Her tali was raised too, more as a display of "dominance" than defensive.
Fine!
Memento tried to push all other thoughts away. Right now nothing else would matter. She could fight him! She was strong!
Memento let out a yelp as she tried to twist as he went to land. His teeth sank into her flank as she tried to pull forward. The weight ended up being too much in her hind legs, however, and down Memento went.
She felt pain flaring up as blood fled from her body. It burned, though differently from the lick of a flame. Meme felt her body protesting as she fell towards the earth. She wasn't going to let him get away with that!
Memento's head was closer to the male's right side as she parted her fangs and went to sink her teeth into his rear right haunch. Stupid creepy dude… she was going to bite him with she had… assuming she made contact. Her pale eyes were flashing:: he'd better be ready!!
