fly on scorched wings

The sun shined down upon the inky boy as he bounded around in front of the palace. Incubus didn't dare go much further since ma and pa said there were mean birds in the sky. Incubus didn't think he could fly so he'd rather not go so high up. Thus, the boy frolicked in the grass with delight. Someone was always nearby wether that may be Daedra, a sibling, or his parents. His tail flicked around idly as the boy happily weaved through the tamed grass. The little wild flowers caught his attention but what really caused his heart to thud were the buggies. Little worms and beetles moving across rocks and logs. Incubus would stop every now and again to watch them. Their little legs carrying them slowly along their path. His eyes seemed to calm in the moments he observed the insects. It was the only moment he could stay still it seemed. Though, Incubus could say he didn't like the ones with pinchers. Evil ants were the boys nemesis as of late. Inc often went out of his way to smush them if he could.

Scratching at the back of his head, hind leg waving in the air, Harbringr flopped down to relax after patrolling the border. It was taking a bit of creativity to patrol the islands but he was slowly getting a routine put together. The greatest irritation was the salt water. It dried his skin and he knew he needed to find a good lake or stream to wash off in later, but for now he just wanted to relax.
Peeking across the courtyard from his spot in the shade he spied one of the newest additions to his family. Harbringr grinned, tail wagging lightly as he watched the pup. He felt so happy for his siblings and the new life they'd brought into Ashen. He got to his paws and trotted over.
"Good morning! I'm Harbringr, your uncle. What are you up to this fine day?"
The smell of salt water and kin filled his pink nose. Incubus glanced up from his bug watching to see a large male moving his way. The Wolf looked very similar to his Father, Hannibal, but he had different markings and eyes. Inc sussed out that maybe the Wolf was a relative but was still rather cautious. His head perked up as the male drew closer but he didn't shy away. Incubus was not a fearful pup with the pack lands surrounding him. The walls of his mother's Empire seemingly kept all the baddies away. Except pesky Gremlins that Pestilence had mentioned. Incubus sometimes glanced over his shoulder to make sure the monsters weren't stalking him. Incubus listened to the greeting and his tail flicked with unharnessed excitement. Uncle Harbringr! The boy recalled his Father telling him of his Uncle. A talented warrior currently ranked Daimyo with Hannibal. Incubus wanted nothing else in the world then to be a fierce warrior like many in his family. - Incubus spoke with excitement as he stood, "Father told me all about you!" He stared up at his uncle with bright eyes, "You are one of Ashen's best warriors!" Incubus took a moment before gasping, "Can you teach me something?!"

Hari chuckled at the pups enthusiastic greeting. "Did he now? I'm flattered." Incubus asked for a lesson and Harbringr thought to himself for a moment before nodding. "How about we go over your defenses?" That was always a good place to start and maybe if the pup were interested they could do a little sparring afterwards.
Harbringr stood, facing the pup. "I'll go over a few of them but lets start with your ears and your tail. A nasty opponent might try to bite them off to make you bleed a lot. If you pin your ears to your head like this," he quickly demonstrated by pinning his ebony ears tightly to his head, "it makes it harder for your opponent to grab them. The same goes with your tail." He tucked his tail between his legs. "Having your tail here can also protect your belly and your privates."
