It's Somewhere Around Here...

Winter didn't have as much as a grasp here as it did farther North. It was a reprieve from the abnormally cold season, a reprieve he was enjoying much better than having to trek through waves of snow and screaming wind. He had decided, not too long ago, that he would make a temporary home in the forest of Auster, digging a den that would be partially hidden by a fallen cedar tree and slight undergrowth. It protected him from rain and harsher winds, making it a suitable home at the moment.
For now, the teen boy would explore and hunt. The general jist of these lands were known, but so far he hadn't seen many nooks and crannies or hidden areas. They probably harbored a good plethora of mice or voles he could munch on, and the idea of such a hidden area compelled him to search. The forest mostly smelled of cedar trees and nectar, the rushing of water from the nearby river a soft noise in the background. His search began in the afternoon, the air cold but mostly still. It gave him plenty of sunlight to search, and no recent rain means no washed away scents. It was only when he got to the riverside did smells get a bit more difficult to locate earthen smells, the scents being replaced by the many lifeforms that lived in and around the river. I wonder if there are any good fish around here.
