Goosey Gander

Once again Askan found himself trekking along the side of a river. Loathe as he was to admit it, the east was actually a rather nice place to be, the scenery was pleasant enough and the climate was mild, a far cry from the horrendous blizzards up north. Like all Selwyns he was built for the cold, his paws wide and strong, adept at clambering over stony terrain. But just cause he could live somewhere didn't mean he had to, a fact he had to remind himself of more often then he should have. Change wasn't always good, it often left him feeling uncertain and cagey, but if he couldn't deal with warmer weather and greener pastures then what kind of man was he?
Askan tsked.
He continued on, following the river east when he saw a goose a few yards ahead. At first he thought nothing of it, expecting it to take flight as he got closer, but as he neared the goose turned and hissed, like Askan had committed a grave, unspeakable crime. The Selwyn slowed to a walk, then came to a standstill as he stared at the bird, completely baffled. The hell was it's problem? He waited, ears tilted forward as he wondered whether the goose would speak, if it had a reason as to why it didn't want him passing through. The goose said nothing and took slappy steps forward, it's neck stretched out as hate burned in its beady eyes. It was then- for no real reason, honestly- that Askan decided that it could speak, that it was just messing with him just for the sake of it. That was an affront Askan wouldn't tolerate, the goose would have hell to pay if it didn't let him pass.
Stomping forward, Askan's tail lashed behind him as his hackles prickled.
"I'm gonna kill you." He warned, his voice flat and monotone. Dangerous.
The goose honked back, unfazed and cocky, ready to bite at him with it's bastard teeth. Like a western showdown, they approached one another, weapons bared and eyes narrowed in focused, resentful squints.

She quite enjoyed traveling now that she had started getting out again. It had been too long, and while even though she had some trouble getting around (slow going in her age mostly), it didn't stop her from taking in the scenery. The old woman walked near the bank of the river, but far from the edge just in case her hips decided to go out on her. The last thing she wanted was to fall over and into the river, and she was neither keen on getting wet nor drowning. She wondered what herbs, if any, she might find around these parts. Though that wasnt her main goal, either. She'd been testing herself lately, seeing how far she could go before she couldn't go anymore. After all, if she just sat around pack lands she'd get stiff and stagnant, and she refused to just die lying around in her den.
She muttered to herself as she walked along, but her mutterings were cut short when she heard a hissing sound above the din of the river followed by a threat. "Now I know someone didn't just threaten me," She muttered under her breath as she looked around for whoever spoke. When she laid eyes on the man who spoke, she noticed he was in a stand off with...a goose? Oh hell no! Those were nasty dirty creature with a bad attitude! While she hadn't had too many encounters with geese, she had had enough of the jerks to not want to get too close. She sat a ways off against a tree as she watched them, and then..."You gonna show that bird what's for or what? Show that overgrown pillow who's boss, don't let him order you around!" She shouted at the stranger.

And then they had an audience. Askan and the goose turned at the same time, eyeing the newcomer with a mix of contempt and curiosity. From the greying around her muzzle it was easy to see that she was old, ancient, and not nearly as spry as she used to be. She wasn't exactly limping along, and Askan gave her credit for that, but her movements were quite as fluid as they should be. Like her joints were a little stiff today. Or maybe that's how all old ladies walked, Askan wasn't exactly familiar with old timers. She sorta had a point though, Askan's brows drew together as he returned his glare to the goose. It remained stubbornly where it was, neck outstretched and beady eyes seething with goosey-rage.
Yeah he wanted to kill the goose but how was he gonna go about it? Jump on in and get slapped around by it's wings? Now that he had an audience he was starting to feel...hmm, rather shamefully as though he was getting a bit of performance anxiety.
"I'm gonna!" He insisted, sounding more like a petulant pup than a grown man. "You hungry for goose?"
He figured that at least he should offer and it did make him feel a grim sense of satisfaction knowing that this mean bastard would fill his belly soon. The goose honked again, indignant and with a lightning strike pecked at his paw. Causing Askan to bounce out of the war with a sharp bark of alarm.
