Wyndelin settled down in the grassland with his supplies. He and Halla had agreed to get together for some hunt-related crafting and with such an abundance of prey the grassland was a logical choice. Wyndelin unwrapped his hide bundle to reveal fresh scraps of deer hide. These were odds and ends from his skinning earlier in Lirim. He started chewing the hide pieces into smaller pieces and then setting them out on some hot stones to dry. He worked his jaws quickly through the hide, not worrying about perfection. He intended to make hide glue after all. Once he had the hide pieces set out to dry he moved a short ways away to get a fire going.

Halla dipped her head in greeting as she settled down next to Wyndelin with her project for the day. She set her bundle down and unwrapped it to reveal fresh deer sinew, some from the backstrap and some from the legs. To get at the sinew Halla first had to open the sheath to get at the tendons. She carefully worked her fangs down the back strap sheath, using her claws to peel it open before turning her attention to the legs. Working through the hide she used her claws to help peel back the tendon sheath and she soon snipped the forked bundle out of the legs.

Wyndelin let the fire burn good and hot and waited for it to burn down into coals. While he waited he picked up a ceramic bowl in his mouth and trotted over to a nearby stream. Bending his head he scooped water into the bowl and then trotted back to the fire. He set the bowl down then added in the scraps of hide and gave it a good stir. Next he used a deer antler to gently lift the bowl and place it on the coals. Now was time to watch. He set the antler down and settled down near the fire so he could keep an eye on it. He wanted the water to get hot and stay hot but he didn't want it to be boiling. He took a stick and gave the mixture another good stir.

As she was using fresh sinew rather than dried she skipped the step of needing to soak them in water. This was easier to her as she could more effectively peel the sheath off the tendons though they would still need to dry. When she came across a few stiffer areas she picked up a stone and dropped it on the tendon sheath to weaken it before she went back to peeling with her teeth. Naturally the tendons wanted to stick to the sheath. She put a paw down on one end and worked to scrape the sheath off so she'd have just the tendons to dry. She moved back and forth from the backstrap, which had made an exceptional lunch, to the ankle tendons.

Eventually a gooey film started to form on the surface. When he decided it had cooked for long enough Wyndelin picked up a ceramic ladle he'd made that had holes in the bottom. He began to fish out the hide scraps. Once all the hide was removed he waited to let it cool. Hours later when it finally cooled he would cut it into pieces and put it in a glass container to store it for later use. Wyndelin stretched out and let out a sigh. He thought about trying to strike up a conversation but Halla tended to be petty quiet and he was feeling a bit too tired to talk. Maybe he out to just curl up and take a nap?

Halla continued to work at scrapping the sheath away until at last she had just the sinew. Now to dry it. Halla had brought a few branched sticks with her that she pushed into the dirt so the branched part was up. She then carefully started hanging the sinew to dry. She moved the sticks a bit closer to the fire to help with the drying and maybe keep insects away though it didn't seem there were many creatures interested in the sinew. Most were buzzing around what was left of the deer feet. Yawning she stretched out like a sphinx before resting her head on her front legs. She wasn't quite comfortable enough to drift off to sleep but it wouldn't hurt to just rest awhile.
