Tripping Me Up

Shilah nestled away in the nook to do some crafting. He'd broken his sling and had of course run out of ammunition so that would need to be corrected immediately. He didn't really use the sling much for fighting but it was an enjoyable past time to set up targets and to try and hit them. He settled down and pulled out some thin strips of leather to use as the cords for his sling. He set three strands down, carefully tying a knot at the top of them to tie them together before he started working through and braiding the strands into one stronger strand. Once he was done with that he decided to take a quick break and look for some ammunition.
Shilah hummed to himself as he started sniffing around the little forest, looking for smooth rocks that he could hurl with his sling. Scratching around in the dirt he found a few different stones that might work. Shilah picked them up in his mouth and trotted back to where he'd set up his little camp. Shilah set one rock down then went to fetch another. When he had three rocks he licked the dirt out of his mouth and moved back over to the leather strands.

Hattori found himself following a familiar scent, though this time he hoped it would not let to yet another predator fight. He was all for regaining his lost strength but this trend that was forming wasn't a good one, or peaceful at the very least. The wolf that resided in the Nook wasn't one he knew the name of but that mattered not as the shinobi stepped out of the shadows to observe what he was doing. From the looks of it he was crafting something, a weapon perhaps? Again, given his build and form Hattori didn't feel as though he needed one to gain the advantage in a fight but he was somewhat curious nonetheless. With a slight head dip in greeting Hattori made himself known, wondering whether the not so stranger would show him the ropes. Or at the very least explain to him what he was making.

Shilah examined the cords, testing them until he decided the were good. The next step to make is sling would be making the leather pouch to hold the ammo. He pulled out a piece of leather and started chewing and tearing it to make a small strip, about the size of a sparrow. He worked and chewed until he had the leather sized. Shilah then bit down hard on each corner of the sling pouch to puncture holes for the cords to go through.
Taking a break from all that chewing Shilah pulled some of the rocks he'd found over to himself. He started shuffling them into categories based on the ones he thought would make for suitable ammunition and the ones that were going to be to unpredictable.
At that moment he was surprised to see the horned-man approaching. He instinctively looked about himself, as if looking for danger before turning back to the man with a grin. "Hey there, do you think we'll finally get a chance to talk without being attacked by some manner of woodland beast?"

Hattori noticed the way Shilah glanced around as if to check for danger, but thought little of it. Whilst not so openly cagey or cautious Hattori somewhat felt the same way, if a bear or some sort of cat appeared from the shadows to launch an attack he wouldn't have overly surprised, to be honest. Though it was starting to get a little old, even to Hattori's bloodthirsty tastes. He eyed the materials Shilah had gathered and idly flicked a strip of leather out of the way with a pointed talon, perhaps this man could teach him a thing or two. Hattori was always ready and eager to learn.
"It would seem so." And then he cut right to the chase. "What are you making?" Aka, show me how to do it.

Shilah gathered his pieces. He set the pouch in front of him and them placed a piece of the leather cord on either side of the pouch. "Well, I'm making a sling. It's a way to hurl projectiles. I hope it will work as a long distance weapon but if not it should make for a little bit of fun. Here I'll show you just a moment."
Picking up one of the leather strands he tied a knot in one end then repeated the process with the other. Next he threaded the leather through the corresponding holes in the leather pouch. He then tied a knot for each of these so that it was all connected.
Shilah let the sling rest as he moved his attention back to the ammo. He picked up one of the stones and set it gently in the pouch to see how well it held. Oops, this one was too big. He set it aside and tested a few more before finding one that fit. He set the stone in the pouch then picked up both leather straps. He held one end tightly farther back in his jaws and the other loosely. Turning his head sharply to the side he let one strand go while holding onto the other. The result was the rock flew through the air and landed with a thud several feet away. Shilah set the sling down and grinned. "Like that. All it is is a piece of leather for the pouch and two pieces for the cords. You can probably throw whatever you want for ammo."
