Back to the Beach

The Obsidian Beach looked much different in the day than it had at night. In some ways it was almost blinding. The sun glinted off the sand, making him squint until a cloud drifted in front of it. He eyed the cloud for a moment but it wasn't much to worry about, at least for now. It was a thin, wispy cloud that stretched against the sky.
Shilah padded down to the shoreline, pulling his map out once more to mark the edge of the ocean, drawing a few wavy lines for the water. Bottles and bowls and various remnants of the party remain strewn here and there but as far as he could tell no one else was around.

At long last he was back on the beach! The first thing Hyperion noted was that it was a wreck. There was trash from the party everywhere. Literally everywhere. Bottles, and jars, glass shards and clay shards, and burned out remnants of fires ringed with stones and shells and whatever else the drunks threw together to make a pit. It was a bit sad, really. Like looking at the bones of a carcass picked cleaned by scavengers and left to rot.
As he was becoming accustomed to doing, Hyperion glanced up at the sky to take stock of the weather. This day had teetered on bad weather and it was a toss up as to whether or not more clouds would race in and douse them suddenly. For now at least it looked clear. There was just one skinny cloud floating all by its lonesome up there. The rest was blue and cheery and sunny, which meant the black sand of the beach glittered blindingly. The night had gotten a bit hazy. He couldn't remember if the sand had been that bright before the sunset or if he'd just not noticed since his mind was elsewhere.
To Shilah, he said, "Hm. Well it looks like my people aren't here after all." He could see pretty far in both directions and as far as he could tell there was no one round for miles unless they were hiding in the shrubbery up on the dunes.

Shilah batted at one of the bottles wondering if he should do something with it but he couldn't really decide what to do. Perhaps the waves of the ocean would eventually wear the bottles down like the rocks, it was hard to say for sure.
He padded over to a nearby chunk of driftwood. It was large, likely the trunk of a tree at some point and as he unrolled his map to mark it he saw the little x's and a rush of embarrassment washed over him at the memory of his treasure hunting silliness. Spirits above he hoped everyone had been too distracted to see his behavior. Shilah marked the tree then rolled up the map and tucked it away as he trotted down the beach looking for any sign of the colorful siblings. At least the weather was good. "Hmm… I don't see anything. It's hard to tell though, there are so many scents here. Can you pick anything out?"

His eyes fell on a familiar looking dune and unable to resist he trotted over to investigate. Ah, yep. He'd pulled the shark up here at one point. The ground smelled like him and his temporary pet. Had he brought a girl over here? Honestly he couldn't remember. Him and that shark had made the rounds. It had been a very good boy if he remembered correctly. Honestly it was too bad they had to part ways. He would have liked to keep it but the whole no legs thing would have made that kind of hard. Oh well.
Hyperion turned back to Shilah, who was investigating a stump. Oh, yeah, he was looking for his siblings. He brought his nose to the ground and huffed around in the sand for a bit. "Nah," he said after a moment before dropping his head and making a few more circles. "Hm. No, nothing yet, but there were a lot of wolves here. I bet I'll find something eventually. Most of them would have been right in the thick of it."

Shilah wished he could help the other man out but there really wasn't much he could do. He didn't know what any of the siblings smelled like exactly, he'd been too drunk to really put anything to memory. All he had to go off of was Hyperion's scent and to search for similar scents. In the end he wasn't any sort of expert hunter. Shilah trotted a bit farther down the beach, marveling at how shiny the sand looked during the day with the full burst of the sun upon it. It was almost too much. The wind picked up a bit more and Shilah unfurled his map once more to mark more of the coast line. He could see it veering off to the north and into some strange misty area. "I wish I could be more help, but I wish you luck in finding them."
-end?-

Hyperion continued to wander in circles in search of a scent. He didn't remember the beach being this trashy last night but then again he'd had a bit of a one track mind. The clay, the bottles, the blankets and animal scraps, they'd all just been insignificant details for him to navigate around in his pursuit of a good time. Come to think of it, the only time he'd noticed empty vessels had been when gone back to the cart at the end of the night and found it filled with nothing but empties. Of course he'd forgotten about that fairly quickly as a beautiful woman had beckoned him over. Heh.
First his ears then the rest of his head swiveled around as Shilah began to speak again. Ah, so the man was leaving, huh? Too bad. Hyperion would have liked to get to know him a little better. To thank him somehow for helping. Alas. "Nah, I got it, it's good. Thanks for walking with me. And for the luck too." He'd find them. Moving the group was like herding cats so they never went anywhere quickly. He just needed to flip over a couple more rocks. "See you around, Shilah."
