I. Like. Big. Trees and I cannot Lie!

Lynvarr retreated back to the north as summer's heat baked the rest of Boreas. The south and west were becoming unbearable. He would still venture to the east now and then but for now he needed a break in the cooler weather of the northern territories. A cool breeze was blowing gently from the north. Lynvarr worked his way eastward when he came upon a stunning forest. Massive trees, taller than any he'd ever seen, stretched up into the sky. They were so wide that if one had a hollow in it he bet a wolf could make a den out of it. The one thing that was a bit concerning was the trees were so big at ground level he wasn't quite sure how best to navigate them. The branches formed a thick canopy and he could barely see the sky. Deciding it would be prudent to mark his path he moved to the nearest redwood tree and used his claws to scratch into the bark.

Hyacinth really, really needed to stop letting himself get lost. Although he was significantly less worried about it in this forest than when he'd gotten himself lost in the swamp. So while he absolutely wasn't sure exactly how to get out he wasn't in as much of a rush. Instead meandering around the trunks and cautiously sniffing at the bark as he passed, though he was pretty sure his scent had gotten all over half the forest at this point, making it impossible to tell if he'd gone in circles or the forest was just much faster than he'd initially assumed. Finally, though he did catch a new scent, that at least was a good omen, and the young man adjusted his course, hoping at least that he'd be saved from a slow death from boredom. An older man came into view and Hyacinth slowed, certain he stuck out like a sore thumb, but for once in his life letting someone else taking the lead on their contact, simply making a friendly chuffing noise as he slowed to a stop. Lynvarr continued working his way through the forest, shifting around trees and trying to find some sense of a path though it wasn't easy. There was very little in the way of vegetation on the ground but the massive trees made it difficult to gauge direction, even if they were really cool to look at. He paused at another tree and started using his claws to scratch in another trail marker. He wished he had cat-like claws and could climb up in the tree but unlike the trees of the Mile-High Woods these weren't particularly accessible. He sighed, staring longingly up at the tree. He could hear the wind picking up as it rustled the leaves up above though he didn't really feel much from the wind down at ground level.
Lyn's ears flicked up at the sound of approaching paw steps. He turned. He stared. A brilliantly colored yearling was standing there, his coat such a pulsing pink it almost looked like the youngling was glowing. "Ah, uh, hello. I'm Lynvarr. You out exploring the north?"

The stranger would turn and Hyacinth fought the urge to chuckle, it wasn't a look he was totally unfamiliar with, but it seemed a common one here. It seemed he and his siblings were not among the norm here. Which suited him just fine. "Sorry, I hope I didn't startle you." He said, chuckling this time. He nodded in reaction to the older man's questioning. "Exploring... walking in circles. A bit of both." He said, his tone light, clearly making light of his own lost state. He took a moment to observe the stranger in front of him. Not as literally brilliant as some of his family but he wasn't unhandsome. Not that Hyacinth was necessarily looking for any of that kind of company right now. Still, he'd rather spend time around those that were at the very least easy on the eyes. "I assume you're here for the same?" "Speak" Think |

Something moved high up above them. Lynvarr wasn't sure if it was a bird or a squirrel but he stepped aside as a number of large pine-like needles fell to the ground. He suddenly wondered how big the pinecones were on these trees. Hopefully, it wasn't the time of year they fell from the sky. He'd never hear the end of it if he got concussed by a tree.
He chuckled at the other man's response and nodded. "Yes, exploring but I'm taking care not to run in circles. Here, I'll show you." He walked over to a nearby redwood and shifted his weight to his hind legs so he could walk his front legs up the tree. Picking a good spot he clawed at the bark to leave a noticeable mark. "I've been marking the trail as I go, though I must admit I hate to damage the trees so. I'll have to think of something better." Lynvarr continued walking, enjoying the weather and the ambience of the forest til he noticed the trees were starting to thin. "Ah, looks like we're almost to the other end of this forest."

Hyacinth was admittedly not prepared for the sudden whump of pine needles being deposited from the sky and he glanced up suddenly, narrowing his eyes to try and see if he could spot anything that might normally knock the needles off the tree. But alas he would not be so successful. Okay so he was about to be shown up, but that was just fine by him. He'd rather not be left to wander a forest all by himself for the rest of his life, at the very least he'd probably survive, there seemed to be small prey all around and the trees would likely provide a decent amount of shelter, though he wondered how cold it would get here in the winter months. "Maybe you could leave items behind on branches?" Hyacinth mused aloud as he followed behind the older man. What he wasn't sure, fur maybe, but he wasn't about to pluck his own hairs out just to make a trail. The trees were starting to thin and he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. "Looks like it." "Speak" Think |
