Maybe He Fell In

Káti settled down by the great river, Lynvarr not too far behind as set down the bundle of items he planned to work on. He had a good piece of leather he sought to put to good use. Mainly he'd shape the piece into bracers for his front legs and then he'd use some of the scraps to fashion a sling to use in launching projectiles. If it didn't work as well as he hoped for a weapon he figured it would make for a fun game at the least. Káti took the leather in his jaws and started working on cutting a rough piece out that would fit around one of his front legs. Once he'd gotten that done he took one of the little scraps and started chewing it into the proper shape for a sling pouch. Good thing he rather liked the taste and smell of leather.

Lynvarr took his time, walking at an easy pace with a couple of sticks secured in his mouth. He had a long one for a wooden spear and a shorter, thicker one that would for the handle for a bone axe. First came the boring part. He needed to chew off the excess branches and leaves. Settling the long stick between his paws he got started on that one first. Once he had that one taken care of he turned his attention to the smaller branch and removed the twigs and leaves from that one as well. He also took a moment to use his claws to peel off some of the chunkier bits of bark. As he worked he paused a moment to glance at Káti. "If I'm not mistaken, I saw you at that raucous party on the beach. Did you manage to avoid trouble?"

Káti returned to the bracer, resting one of his legs in the piece of leather and wrapping it around to check that it fit. Satisfied he set it down and proceeded to chew holes in it. He held the leather down with his paws as he moved it into his mouth, biting through to create evenly spaces holes. Once that was done he moved back to the leather pouch and carefully used his canines to puncture a hole on either side of the pouch for the leather straps to go through.
He was about to grab the leather strands he needed for his projects when Lynvarr mentioned the party. Ugh. "Yes, thankfully. I met a lovely young woman, we did some crafting and then I left before it got to umm… obnoxious. What about yourself?"

Lynvarr picked up the spear and positioned it so that he could bite a notch in it that would hold the spearhead. He carefully worked his jaws into the top end to create a single notch. He debated about trying to add a crosswise notch but in the end he decided against it. He planned to help anchor the spearhead with pitch and see how it held up. With the spear done he picked up the axe handle and began to chew a notch into that as well. He waited til he was done to answer Káti's question with a chuckle. "Nay. My oath to my betrothed as been kept." He hoped some day to make enough of a fortune to bring her with him to these strange lands and marry her properly but there was still much to be done. He supposed he ought to find a back to settle in but he had yet to pick one out. "Are you claimed, Káti? By a woman?" He didn't often entertain the idea of someone being married to a man. It didn't often arise in his culture.

Káti gathered the leather strands he was keeping in his travois and settled back down to work. He started at the bottom, threading the leather cordage through the bottom holes then crisscrossing his way up, alternating the holes on either side to form an 'x' like pattern of lacing. Once he got to the top he tied a little knot at each end of the strand to prevent them slipping back out. Next Káti set the pouch in front of himself and placed a piece of the leather cord on either side of the pouch. Picking up one of the leather strands he tied a knot in one end then repeated the process with the other. He then threaded the leather through and then tied and sealed another knot to make sure the cord didn't slip through and cause him to lose the pouch. He pulled the leather cords tight so that the leather pouch formed more of a pouch than a flat piece.
"No, I'm not seeing anyone. I don't know that I'll fall for anyone really. There was someone… a long while back but I didn't realize she felt for me til it was too late." Káti started to put his things away, making it clear he was done with this subject of conversation.

Lynvarr leaned the spear against a larger rock and then moved to his travois to get his pine pitch.
Taking it in his jaws he trotted over to the fire to warm it til it became sticky and soft enough to fill the notch. He took the pine pitch back over to the end of the spear and lightly pressed the pine pitch into the notch. He then carefully pressed the back end of the spearhead into the notch, using one of his paws to hold the spear steady. Lynvarr held the spearhead into the spear notch until the pine pitch dried enough so that the spearhead wouldn't move out of place.
He sensed the sorrow in the other man's voice and so he did not press the conversation any further. Lynvarr moved back to the pine pitch, heating it up a bit more before applying it to the notch in the axe handle. When that was good and sticky he pulled a bone axe blade from his travois and settled it into the pitch-filled notch until that dried and hardened as well.
