Gossamer headed to the river with some scraps of leather in her mouth that were leftover from her bracer project. She'd spoke with Ásta who told her about something called a sling that could be used to hurl things so one could attack from a distance. Gossamer like that idea so she was down to learn.

"Ok, the first thing you'll need to do is chew out a piece for the pouch that will hold your ammo. This could be varying in size but I recommend something a bit bigger than your paw."

Gossamer nodded and picked out a chunk of leather to start with. She then started using her teeth to cut out a fat rectangular piece of hide to use for her pouch.

Dagrún wandered along the river side with a deer leg bone in her mouth that Sperla was going to teach her to turn into a knife. She couldn't wait to get started and have something sharp she could show her mother. True, she probably didn't really need a knife with her sharp claws but she still thought it sounded cool.

She slowed down when she noticed Gossamer working on something. She trotted over and set the bone down. "Hey Gossy! I'm gonna join you." True she could've asked but she was going to sit here regardless.

Sperla perched near by. "To start, try dropping a rock on the bone to make cracks and break it into pieces that will be easier to work with." Dag grabbed the leg bone and carefully set it down on a smooth flat stone. She then grabbed a nearby rock in her jaws and dropped it on the bone. Not much happened at first but after a few more drops she started get cracks and splinters.

Gossamer looked up as Dagrún joined them and she shrugged. "Go right ahead." She was just working on a project and the other girl was decent enough not to be annoying. Gossamer scooted the piece of leather toward Ásta who nodded. "Ok, its looking good. You'll need to chew a hole in each corner now to run the cord through."

Ok, more chewing, well she could definitely do that. Gossamer carefully moved the piece of leather into her jaws and used her canine teeth to puncture holes in each corner of the soon to be sling pouch. She wasn't sure yet what she would use for ammo but she was sure she could find some rocks that would fit in it well.

Dagrún paused in her rock dropping to examine her work so far. She had some good pieces here. She looked to Sperla who pointed out one of the pieces that she felt would make the best knife. "Try that one there and work to chew it into a more blade like shape." The smaller pieces could be turned into spearheads later if the pup wanted, otherwise they'd be left to nature.

Dagrún got to work, chewing very carefully on the bone to refine the blade. Once it was the rough shape she wanted she picked it up and rubbed the blade against a nearby stone to sharpen it even more without risking cutting her mouth. It was times like these she wished she had a beak that could hold things like this.

"Ok, I have the holes made, what now?" Gossamer looked to Ásta to see what the next step would be though she had a pretty good idea of what it would be.

"Next we need to thread the leather strands through the holes in the pouch. I can help you with this."

Gossamer set the pouch in front down and placed a piece of the leather cord on either side of the pouch. Picking up one of the leather strands Ásta tied a knot in one end then repeated the process with the other. Between the two of them they finished threading and securing the cords. Gossamer pulled the leather cords tight so that the leather pouch formed more of a pouch than a flat piece and just like that she had a sling that was ready to go. As soon as she figured out how to throw something with it.

Dagrún continued chewing and refining the blade a bit more until she was sure she was done. She set it down proudly and that's when Sperla informed her there was another step.

"Next you'll take one of the leather strips we have and wrap it around the handle portion for the grip. I'll help you with this. It might be easier with a beak and talons." Dag reluctantly nodded. Not to the wrapping but to needing the bird's help. She really wished she could do it on her own but she knew the bird would have an easier time. Dagrún balanced the bone blade between her paws and turned it while Sperla used her beak to wrap the leather around and tie knots to secure it. Dag grinned and carefully picked up the blade in her jaws to test the feel.
