The news brought by Drifa made Corvus wildly uneasy, but his mind was admittedly even more preoccupied with Twig and her loss. Their loss. It was hard to think much about himself when she was hurting, and it was easy to shove his own feelings aside in favor of worrying for her. Perhaps it wasn't the healthiest coping mechanism but it was what he had going on at the moment. Worrying about her was a very real concern though, which was why he was out looking for a meal for her today. Maybe just something small but after what her body had gone through she needed extra nutrients, right? Corvus was no healer but he wanted to take care of her as best as he could.

He trailed alongside the rapids until he found himself at a narrow bend. Usually the fishing was decent at spots like this, and though Corvus wasn't much of a fisherman he'd give it his best shot. Crouching down low he bent his head low to the rapids, squinting as he avoided the midday sun that gleamed off the water. His eyes trained on the movement of the water, zoning in until the movement of the waves became a blur and he was able to see beneath the surface, searching for any sign of life below the surface. As soon as he saw a flash of color he swiped down low, though utterly missed his first attempt.

The boy had been told to mostly stay away from the rapids, which was easy enough to do, their noise was easy enough for the blind boy to pinpoint. But he was curious about it of course. Still, he wasn't about to ignore Papa's instructions. So he was still keeping some distance between himself and the noise of the rapids, though he was slowly edging closer each day. He smelled another wolf up ahead, his scent was kind of familiar, and he realized it's because he'd caught it on Twig's pelt, and indeed he smelled a bit like Twig. The boy's tail wagged and he approached, his movements still awkward as he was not yet used to the lands and he couldn't really see any obstacles in his way.

Since he couldn't see the man he would end up bumping into his side if he did not notice and move. The boy didn't seem to mind being so close to a stranger, lifting his voice into a high squeak. "Whatcha doing?" He didn't know what anyone even could do so close to the rapids but he was super curious.

Corvus had yet to spend time with Abaven's youngest, but he knew in time he'd meet them and hopefully be a positive influence on their upbringing. But admittedly he was deeply distracted lately with worries over Twig's well-being and.. well, Abaven's future in general. Once he would've laughed at the mere prospect of Ignis being a thread to his loved ones, but now.. well, he really wasn't so sure. He hoped he was worrying for no reason but he thought it better to worry than be vastly unprepared, and be caught off guard..

His thoughts wandered as he swiped at the water, somewhat idly, clearing missing his target. He was so focused on both his task at hand and what he was thinking about that he barely noticed Soul until he was bumping into him, and Corvus flinched slightly. The reaction calmed as soon as it started, though he swung himself around so the boy wasn't able to get to the rapids even if he tried. He knew of Soul's blindness, and coupled with memories of his own parents' warnings of the rapids, he wanted to be sure the boy knew to be careful around here.

"Hey you," he started gently. Corvus had never been the best at talking to strangers, though he tried; but when it came to kids he found he could interact with them much more easily. Maybe because he spent less time worrying about what they'd think of him and how he'd come across. "I was fishing, but I wasn't having much luck. The water is kinda low right now." Which made the rapids a bit lower on the danger scale than usual, but he still didn't like the thought of kids running around here unattended.

Soul could tell that the man he'd bumped into had moved slightly and the small boy pressed lightly into the nearest part of the man, seeming to be comforted and soothed by the contact. The man explained he was fishing... not that Soul really knew what that was but he nodded as if he understood completely. "'m Soul!" He introduced himself, he was still only now getting used to having a name but was more than happy to share it, after all he'd gotten it from his papa!

"Who're you? You smell like aunt Twig!" It wasn't meant to be a rude comment, simply the boy not yet having developed a proper filter between his mind and his mouth. Then without giving the man much of a chance to respond his mind jumped back to the previous question he'd had... "What's fishing?"

Despite everything he had been worrying about lately, at Soul's sudden company it was hard to dwell on any of that. His worries quickly faded away, replaced by a smile that touched his lips and no doubt sounded in his voice. "Hi Soul," he greeted him lightly. He was hardly one for physical contact with most wolves but the boy pressing into him was likely as comforting for him as it was for Corvus. His grin grew a little bit wider, and he let out a little laugh at his eager question, though hardly hard time to respond before receiving another one. "I'm Corvus. Your aunt Twig is my.. girlfriend," he explained slowly, not sure if Soul would even understand. If not he had no doubt that question would follow after, if he was curious enough.

And now how was he supposed to explain fishing? Hmmm. "Fish is a type of food. It comes from the water. It's different, but really good." Hunting might never be Soul's strong suit with his blindness, Corvus suddenly realized. Fishing might prove to be an alternative for him as he learned. He'd seen how the fish could get caught around clusters of rocks in the rapids; maybe if he scouted out a few good spots for him, Corvus could point them out? His mind instantly started working overtime. He knew certain things might be trickier for him with his lack of sight but that wasn't reason to not believe in the boy or his abilities, he'd just have to learn to adapt. Briefly he thought of the hardships his blindness might cause him in life and Corvus tried hard to push those thoughts out of his head. In Abaven he would never go without, regardless of his abilities or lack thereof. And he was too young now to know that the world could be any different for him, anyway. Corvus hoped that positive outlook lasted for a long time, even into adulthood.

"This river here - we call it Monument Rapids - is a place I like to fish. But it can be really dangerous so you need to be careful around it. If you slip in the water can grab you and pull you in, so promise me you'll be careful around here," Corvus noted seriously. "But if you stay on shore you'll be ok. The water is going this way," he leaned over to nudge the boy's nose to the side, so he could explain the direction the water was flowing. "So fish swim from the other way. If you're really lucky you can grab them as they swim by."
