Erani Adravendi

She meandered along the edge of the gorge, ears back, mind whirling as the snowflakes fell around her frame, adding to the sheets of snow under her paws. Pugmarks from Laila were faint in the snow, large in comparison to the wolf prints her own paws left in her wake. A cure. They needed a cure. She?d been glad to meet the stallion Obsidian had gushed about to her one night, before the plague had come. He was spreading the word north, and hopefully east, to Glaciem and Ebony, Tortuga and Ludicael. Madieke, the first messenger of Valhalla, had taken the south and west, that being the new pack Erani had heard wind of, Covari, another pack, the one that had once been Valhalla, now known as Arcanum, and Olympus.

She needed a moment away, and so had cleaned off and taken off to the eastern most edge of her territory. They needed a cure. She wasn?t sure what could stop tears of blood? the rest of the symptoms, she could ease with her medicinal arsenal of plants and roots and barks and berries. What would her mother have done? Conversed with her father, of course. Erani turned, pulling away from the inner edge of the gorge, tossing her head up and throwing a call out for the healthy healers of Valhalla, and any who might be able to bring some ideas to her. This was a command to come to her side, and woe to those called who didn?t come at a time like this. She was not in the mood for those who were healthy and able to shirk a meeting. Not today.

The druid felt like his soul had been pulled down into dark places that he never liked to be. Sick wolves were popping up left and right. Erani's den reeked with sickness since all of the infected wolves had been quarantined there. He wanted to be enjoying his and Imena's recently revitalized love, but instead the both of them were pulling out their fur trying to find a cure for this epidemic. All of the healers were. It drove him mad not being able to really help his pack mates.

He had been pacing back and forth near his own den when Erani's call went out and he stopped, lifting his head to listen. Of course he would go, he would never turn away from his aunt's call, especially in a time such as this. He turned and trotted toward the call, his expression clearly showing his downtrodden feelings. He arrived not long after the howl had finished its echo, dipping his head as he stopped in front of Erani. A small spark of hope found its way to him, the hope that the healers of Valhalla could come together to find a cure for this terrible illness.

There was little Twig could do for her brother except hunt for him and the other sick as often as she could. With none to distract her but Alpine her time had been occupied with much of the activity. Today was no different. Less than a week had passed since the girl had made her return with her mate. She would find herself hunting rabbits again, their tracks easy to follow in the powdery snow. They were rather plentiful, and she had no hard feelings about putting such a dent in their numbers. The mock rodents reproduced so fast, it was like they were placed here just to be eaten. The cross marked girl would catch up to a rather slow bunny, her jaws wrapping around its neck as her ears caught wind of Erani's commanding call. Panting, she would release the carcass, orchid gaze looking in the direction of the call. Maybe this would be her chance to do something for Jinxx.
Pearly jaws would take the rabbit from the earth, slate covered paws carrying her into the territory. She was weary of stepping foot inside, however the gorge seemed less traveled than the plains or the lake. With rabbit still in her jaws she would leave it on the border, a patrol would take it and distribute where it was needed. She didn't have enough time to get one for herself. Hurriedly she would find the alpha, only one other wild present so far. She would nod politely to both, taking a seat a respectable distance from them. She was not truly a healer, but was desperate to do something for her brother. So she would keep herself out of the way, but available should someone need her assistance.?

Erani

Deep blue gaze peered through the falling snowflakes as she waited for those who would come to arrive. Cael soon made his appearance. And then, surprisingly, Twig. The furrow in Erani?s brow and the frown eased to a gentle smile at the two. She had decided that she would speak now, and the others who were coming; had better be coming, would come when they did.

?Cael, Twig, thank you both very much for arriving promptly. What we are giving the ill isn?t doing more than easing their pain and fevers. We need to stop this in its tracks, or we could have a high death toll. If we can stop this soon, we may be able to save them all, and help other packs cure their sick. I?m sure rogues will need help as well.? Her eyes turned firstly to her nephew, solemn deep blue gaze penetrating. ?I?ve been thinking. Our logical administrations seem to be having only a marginal effect. Perhaps we need to guess at herbs.? The word left both a bitter taste on her tongue, and a faint thrill of hope that it could work. ?We?ll need to test out guesses on one of the patients, perhaps all of them with a different guess each.? Her haunches rose. ?My own guess is Lady?s Slipper, Knotweed, and Skullcap. What do you think?? Her eyes turned to both of them, looking for feedback as she began treading her way back toward the plains and her expansive den.

?Come if you will, and we?ll test someone. The others can catch up. Twig, I think Jinxx would be helped if you saw him, but? I understand if you won?t see him.? Her gaze flicked to the female?s sides. ?That?s a good catch of a rabbit, by the way.?

Gossamir's throat burned and her chest ached as her shaking limbs finally reached the borders of Valhalla. Wolves were endurance runners to be certain but it was a long journey and she still had a longer one ahead of her. Gossamir hesitated at the border for a moment but decided, screw it! This was an emergency. Giving a brief howl to alert the others of her presence and approach she moved in the direction of the strongest scents.

She came upon a gathering of Valhallan wolves including some sick ones, much like her fellow pack mates. Panting she cleared her throat. "Alphess Erani! I? I am Gossamir Alkali of Tortuga. We?" she paused for a moment coughing lightly. "We are beset by this disease as well but have had some luck with Alder buckthorn, Alfalfa and Horsetail. Please, I was sent by Qanik. The cure will benefit all of us. If you find it send someone to Tortuga." She told herself she was lingering to wait to be dismissed but in reality she just wanted to catch her breath.

[[Ooc:: Assuming Sei is killing Vahva off in the thread that they?re in already. If not I?ll edit this at some point.]]

More wolves than just Vahva had fallen ill, though the death of the she-wolf, a healer herself, had struck Arwel with a deep bit of sadness. When the call of Erani went up, healer expertise or not the male would turn away, rushing for her. Meili had also fallen ill... His poor sister. Arwel knew, come what may, he needed to be there. To do what he could for those sick, to offer what relief and help he could to the healers who were running themselves ragged in trying to treat the others.

He would arrive after Cael, Twig, and a stranger, coming in just as the other mentioned their own pack having the sick with the illness, and speaking of some luck with a mentioning of certain herbs. He would look to Erani after the other finished speaking. ?Perhaps work on combinations involving those then, Lady Erani? Maybe we might be able to figure out the right one if we mix and match some.? His cerulean eyes were iced over with pain, worry, and he looked to the other fae, relief shining in his eyes for the news she brought them.

Though he was surprised at the small number of wolves that had arrived, he was glad to be one of those in attendance. He wanted desperately to help. He nodded in turn to Twig as she arrived, glad to have anyone on board to help, no matter if they were a healer or not. Erani would explain the situation they were in, offering her solution. Cael would nod in agreement just as another wolf frantically approached, his surprised gaze fixing on her. She came with news from Tortuga and he was especially interested to hear that they had at least a little luck with a cure. Arwel appeared, practically reading Cael's mind with his response. "I agree with Arwell. Maybe take the three that Tortuga had gotten results with and pair pieces of it with your guesses, Erani." He hated that they were merely poking in the dark of answers, but what else could they do?

Erani was quick to welcome them, a small smile on her features. Twig tried to return in, but with the ravaging sickness effecting older brother it was hard. Ears would swivel towards Erani as she was quick to start their small meeting. It was obvious not all of the healers were present, but it seemed two and a helper would be good enough. Erani would go on, talking of hope and herbs that were not helping cure the sickness at all. They were getting desperate, they were starting to guess remedies. She would ask their opinions, but Twig would just shake her head, all she knew was lavender. "The only plant I've ever used was lavender," The marked girl would have to start taking lessons from someone, if something were to ever happen again she wanted knowledge of how to use the plants as medicine. Erani would address her fully then, Asking her to join her in administering the cure to Jinxx. The Healer's eyes would fall to the girls sides, commenting on the nice catch of a rabbit. Twig's jaws would part to answer awkwardly, however a howl would be heard, not far off. Attention would be diverted as a woman came running into the clearing, her words quick and very informative. Looking a bit more nervous now, the Black girl would ease herself back a pace. Allowing the healers to speak their wisdom, only nodding in agreement to her newly arrived pack mate and cael. What would Erani decide?

(OoC: I want to keep this thread moving along. If anyonehas a character that would want to stay back, they don't have to post a reply section to the part of my post when everyone has returned to Erani's den, where the sick are, and they can post an exit saying something like "watched the others retreat into the distance" or something. Either way, I want this to go quickly. :) <33))

Erani

Twig was first to answer Erani?s enquiry as to their own ideas. Despite Twig not being a healer, Erani embraced that small input openly. Then we shall add that to the list of plants to try as a combination. Every small bit helps. Now--? Her words were cut off as Arwel arrived, and then a female draped with the scent of Tortuga charged in after a short howl. The female greeted Erani, then introduced herself as Gossamir, from Tortuga. It seemed that the pack under the rule of Roman had been hit with the illness as well. While a part of her felt horrible for thinking it, she was glad that Valhalla was not the only pack beset by this epidemic. It meant other wolves would be searching desperately for a cure; anything to stop the suffering and end the sickness. And indeed, Gossamir brought news of some success with three herbs. Alder Buckthorn, Alfalfa, and Horsetail. ?Thank you, very much, Gossamir, for your help. Rest as long as you need.?

Arwel spoke next, and Cael agreed. Erani nodded. ?We?ll try a variation of plants with each of the ones Gossamir has listed.? Her eyes turned to the Tortugan messenger. ?If we find something, a cure, anything, we will certainly send word to all we can.? She wasn?t exempt from the grief brought by this illness. Surreal was sick with it as well. Vahva, Cecily, Meili, Jinxx? And more. In her heart, she knew not all of them would make it, but she wasn?t ready to let go of this battle. Not yet. She turned, heading toward the plains. ?Come on. We?ve work to do.?

~~Back in Erani's den a few minutes later.~~

Erani padded into her den, going straight to her herb stocks. She knew she had a great deal of the plants Gossamir had listed. ?Take a bit of these each with you, and choose a patient. Take some of whatever you think may work, and try combinations. May this cure show itself with ease.? She took portions of the Alder Buckthorn, Horsetail, and Alfalfa, then chose some Lavender. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldn?t. After a moment of thought, she took a few other herbs as well, until her jaws were stuffed with the different plants, then padded into the depths of the den, finding Surreal, and the ever present Falk. The way the male had stuck to Surreal?s side since she?d fallen ill was absolutely admirable. He?d make a fine partner when Surreal took over the pack? Erani did not allow the mental ?if she survived? to cross her mind.

?Surreal, sweetheart. We?re going to try and find a cure. I?ll need you to eat some of these.? She prodded apart the bundle, choosing two of the three plants Gossamir had listed. The two she felt may be most likely. Horsetail, Alfalfa. Then she looked over the other plants she had brought. She closed her eyes, leaned in, and came out with? She looked at her blind choice. Agrimony. It was a plant that helped to stop bleeding? Maybe it would be the one. She hated this groping in the dark guessing. But healers far before her time had done the exact same thing in other epidemics, and it was, by far, the best chance anyone had for reaching a cure. ?Hear, Surreal. Eat these.? Maybe? Just maybe, they will help.

She felt it again, that dragging weight in her bones, the foggy haze of her mind, the struggle to do the simplest things like opening her eyes. She had been sleeping a lot lately but not a sound one. She would toss and turn, her mind still on the plague that struck her pack. She spent every waking hour thinking it over, pondering over a cure. But this morning she had to fight to just wake up. Everything sounded fuzzy, unclear, her mind moved slowly, her body even slower. Eyes looked over to see that Cael was already gone and she felt slightly sad. She wanted nothing more than to curl up into his side and never move. But she had to, the pack needed her, Amia needed her.

She had gathered two herbs that she thought would work. But it took her far too long to focus on what she needed. She would sit there staring at her store of herbs, sometimes thinking, other times losing her train of thought and just sitting there. When the howl went up she was only vaguely aware of who it was. She would start out of the den on unsteady paws, wavering from side to side. Slowly she made her way till she forgot her herbs. With a frown she looked back towards her den, now just a small spot in her view. Turning she was throwing into a coughing fit, her body hunched over till it left her wheezing for breath. She mumble something not even she was sure of what before going back.

It was taking far too much long to get there but she just couldn't seem to get her body to move any faster than a stumbling, wavering walk. Her herbs though remained in her jaws firmly, set on making sure they didn't drop. She stopped where a group of paw print littered the snowy ground. Sky blue eyes clouded in frustration and confusing. Was this where the meeting had been? Had a meeting been called? How long ago did that howl go up? She never got her answer but her mind somehow managed to tell her to follow the prints to Erani's den.

Slowly she entered the den, setting down her little bundle of herbs, garlic and gravel root. Her body slumped into a sitting position where she could barely hold herself up right and was leaning on the den wall. Her eyes stared into the gloom, her nose dry and stuffy, unable to smell the sickness of the plague no more. I brought garlic and gravel root..She uttered in a rough voice before another coughing fit stole her breath away. Eyes watered up as she tried to gain control. After a few moments she would look up, spying Erani and waited, not realizing she should maybe explain why she picked the herbs she did and for up.

Erani would be in a hurry to get on with an attempt at a cure, with the added information there was a new ray of hope leant to them. Though she knew seeing Jinxx's face would cause her nothing but joy she knew she couldn't risk contamination. As the alpha would turn to go Twig would move, swinging close enough to the queen to give her love. "If Jinxx, if Jinxx can hear you tell him I love him. And.. and that I will see him soon." There was hope in her voice, timid, but there. Her brother had to survive, it would destroy her if the disease took him. A gentle smile would appear on her marked lips as she watched Erani and those who would help follow. She had done as much as she could, now it was back to hunting. Slate painted limbs would carry her back the direction she came, her senses trained on the possibilities of prey. She had to get her mind off the sickness. -exit twig-

Cael would speak up, backing up his suggestion of the herbs that they should all try. He would give a small nod, gaze flicking to the cross marked woman, Twig, when she said that she had only ever used lavender as far as the plants went that were mentioned. Gaze would return to Erani, giving a nod as she gave her own word. There was so much riding on finding this cure... Even his own sister, Meili, had fallen ill... And he worried terribly that Emily might join the sick. She was still within the Ravine, and with his grieving and trying to do what he could around Valhalla he had yet to go to her.

It was almost enough to make Arwel crack. Tail would flick worriedly back and forth as he followed after Erani to the plains. Healing experience or not, he was going to try and do everything he could for the sake of Valhalla. The wolves that gave him everything he had now. When they arrived at the den he would look to Erani and then Cael, not yet speaking before another healer would arrive on the scene. He would look to the herbs then, giving a soft whine before looking to the other two as Erani chose her own selection to give to another.

?I don?t want to give any wolf too much of any particular herb, so I?m going to leave this part to you guys...? Though if a cure was found he could race to any and all packs if need be, to spread the word of the cure to this damned epidemic.

Surreal

Through the fog of her deepening fever, Surreal was barely aware of her mother?s scent pervading her sick ward alcove. She had been moved into the system, away from her regular sleeping place, and she would have snapped to that insanity she was becoming aware that lurked beneath the surface of the main illness symptoms. She had seen Rayne, hale and hearty, but missing both eyes, the sockets bleeding and blank, and a sickening grin pulling her maw wide. She had seen her father again, hulking and huge, his outline frazzling in erratic, strange ways, and she had seen Falk, with two heads, one loving and ever gentle, and the other vicious and evil. The real Falk was always at her side, however, his scent fighting off the insanities, his warm body chasing away some of the fear that had wormed its way into her soul. She was still determined to stay alive; to keep fighting until she reached the other end and was well again.

Her mothers voice batted away the fog. It was such an easy voice to latch onto and cling to consciousness. Falk and her mother were the two best things in her life right now. Two rocks holding her down from floating away into the dark. ?Cure? I?ll? try.? She fought back the roiling nausea in her stomach, a stomach empty from an earlier evacuation of rabbit that had failed to stick. She thought that maybe the scent on the rabbits that had been coming in held some scent of? Someone? Stick? Twig! Jinxx?s sister. Jinxx was sick, too. In one of her clear moments, she?d heard about him, that Sephiroth had a new set of scars from the attack Jinxx had unexpectedly made on the Beta Secondary. It was the insanity of this awful sickness. Surreal had been trying her best to fight away the aggression that bubbled up and made her want to snap at anything near. She?d only lunged once; at Falk, which brought her more terror than anything else. It had been the two headed Falk she had thought she was lunging at, wanting to get that evil head that didn?t belong off of his body.

Surreal noticed, blearily, the herbs in front of her, and crunched them up. Well? she chewed slowly, wondering if they would take effect immediately, or take forever. But? after a few moments, she felt slightly better. But only slightly. ?I think? I think some of it worked? M?head?s less fuzzy?? She mumbled, feeling her head lowering to the stone between her paws. The moss that had been there had been scraped away with each horrid seizure as it came, and was bunched somewhere behind or under her. Maybe that was why the ground under her felt lumpy. ??M sorry, mother?? For what? It not working all the way? For everyone being so sick? None of that was her fault. Maybe it was farther back. Maybe she was sorry that she hadn?t been able to keep her siblings together? That she hadn?t been able to help Gabriel with his problems? Tears, bloody tears, fell from her eyes, mismatched eyes squinching shut. ??m sorry?

Erani

Erani had heard Twigs message, and Arwels, a nod had been given to each, before she had delved into then search for a cure.

As Erani settled the herbs in front of her daughter, Imena arrived, and from the get go, it was clear she was sick again. It wasn?t what the plague ridden wolves had, but Erani still worried for contamination of the already sick wolves. ?Try to cough into your fur. Also, you should try and consume a bit of peppermint. Should clear your mind a little. I have some cayenne peppers in the store. They?ll hurt a little, but they?ll clear your sinuses.? She nosed the two plants Imena had brought while Surreal chewed the plants she had administered. The news was slightly lifting, but there was still no major, intense improvement? Her daughter?s apologies and tears wrenched at her heart. It was always hardest when treating one of your own family of a serious illness. The fear of losing a loved one was intensified. Erani was forcing herself to be calm. ?Hush, little war eagle. You?ve nothing to sorrow after. Try these??

She hesitated to give Surreal more of any same herbs, so she had given tiny doses. That way, if something worked, or didn?t work, the effects would be less likely to overdose if the same plant was tried again. She turned back to her little bundle, nudging out the Alder Buckthorn, Horsetail, and Agrimony. Perhaps mixing them up? Horsetail was wonderful for binding serious wounds, and stopping bad bleeding. Perhaps it had a place in the part of stopping the eyes from bleeding? The Alder Buckthorn was the clincher. It didn?t have many uses, and certainly it didn?t address the symptoms directly? But, worth a shot. It was, of course one of the three Gossamir had said were potentially the ingredient for the cure.

She once again made small doses of each part and nosed them to her daughter, eyes sharp for any change for the good or bad.
