The sun had set some time ago, but the sky was bright with stars that cast a silvery glow on the gently flowing water. She moved carefully along the waterfall, making sure not to slip on the wet rocks, but she wanted to find a good, comfortable spot. She’d always loved watching the stars, and liked to go to different lands around the Armada to do so. The sky looked different here from where she used to watch with her sister, but she knew that the inky canvas spread across the vast space that separated them, and she liked to believe that somewhere out there, Elia was looking at the stars twinkling over her head and thinking of Acciona too.
The woman found a nice dry ledge, a large spot that left plenty of room even after she sat comfortably and tipped her head by to gaze at the sky. By now the scattering of stars had grown more familiar to her, but there were a couple specific constellations that her and her sister had favored that she missed. They’d made up stories for the images in the sky, and they had been one of the few things that kept the girls sane during their time under Kyros’ rule. She wondered what her sister might say now, if she knew that Kyros and Enno were dead, and that the kingdom had fallen.
