It seemed that with his and his brother and sisters’ first birthday, and the turn of what should have been Winter into Spring, the world had other intentions. He’d gone to bed, tucked warmly into his siblings and parents, though the alcove was really starting to feel a little cramped with all of them in there. The weather had been clear, a little snowy, as the snow from the blizzard that had engulfed the raid hadn’t melted off.
When he came out, stretching and yawning and blinking away the sleep from his eyes, his ears perked in surprise. Wind howled, more fiercely than he’d ever heard, even in the raid. He trotted quickly from the cave and peered up, but found himself unable to see through the narrow top of the ravine. Odd, it should have been morning.
During the winter, the monkeys and lemurs had added small, long logs – older saplings, really – across the opening of the ravine top, and woven the trailing, dormant vines through the willow fronds they’d woven between the saplings. In the late spring and summer, they’d bloom and shade the ravine quite comfortably. But they were currently squashed by snow. Lots of it.
He padded cautiously down the darkened ravine, shaking out his coat to better light his way until he reached the mouth. The snow was so thick he couldn’t see further than a few feet. His ears flicked back in confusion. Was that normal for the turning of Spring?

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
Soft russet ears fell to her skull when the wind blew savagely outside, harder and wilder than she had ever experienced before and her instincts told her to stay inside the den where it was warm and safe. Lee looked over her shoulder, sapphire and ice blue eyes looking for Ardyn but he was no where to be seen nearby. He didn't... Lee thought as she turned her gaze back to the raging storm outside with a worried curl to her delicate brows. Sure enough, she spotted his nearly faded paw prints in the snow headed out into the harsh elements. "Idiot." she muttered, half in exasperation the other half in pure sibling affection. With a heavy sigh, the girl trotted into the strong winds, leaning slightly into the wind to keep her balance and tilted her head to keep the snow from her eyes. She could just make out her brother's paw prints in the snow as she followed them down the ravine, but the further she went the heavier the snow began to fall and her brother's trail became that much more difficult to track.
The footing became more and more treacherous and she focused more on where she was putting her paws that tracking her brothers enormous paw prints and by the time she noticed his prints where gone it was much too late for her to retrace her steps. Even if she did, she knew the heavy snow would have covered them already. Laoise paused next to a large boulder, using its massive size to shield her from most of the savage wind as she took a moment to try and peer around her. She couldn't make out much but when she finally recognized where she was at she let out a breath, the fog from the hot air instantly ripped from her lips. She started to feel panic starting to rise in her chest when she spotted a strange flame colored light flicker close by and her heart jumped. She knew Ardyn's light anywhere. Quickly but carefully she made her way to him, attempting to call his name over the screech of the wind.

Soon enough, he glanced back and spotted Lee’s russet figure, and he turned to move by the smaller girl’s side, turning to study the blizzard again. “The primates and I may have to strengthen the lattice over the ravine… Didn’t Mum and Da say that Spring was supposed to melt snow away?”
He and his siblings had been born right on the twilight between the seasons, and he remembered their puphood spring as being quite pleasant. He shook out his coat in a flare of fiery light and glanced down at Lee. “Wanna make a cloak? I dunno how long this’ll last, and it might be nicer if we had some protection against the extra chill to help our undercoats.”
He grinned and rose to his paws, padding back into the shelter of the ravine. “So, how does it feel?”

Her sullen expression did not last long however, her elegant face beaming brightly when Ardyn asked her if she wanted to make a cloak. She had always been slightly jealous of the other wolves that walked around with their warm cloaks on and she could used this time to pick up a few pointers when she helped Ardyn make one. "That sounds like fun!" she got to her paws and padded after her brother, her shorter legs working a little harder than his long strides as she kept up with him. She glanced at her sibling when he asked how it felt, knowing he probably meant about their age but she smirked and replied playfully "Oh, you know.... Cold... Im sure my nose has frozen off by now." Laoise giggled and wiggled her snout pointedly but was silently relieved that she could actually still feel it. The tawny and russet brindle girl would be ecstatic when the temperatures finally rose and the cold stopped nipping at her skin through her thick fur.
