Finally, the thirst for adventure and the need to sate her own curiosity had outweighed her disinterest in the cold. She had been cooped up for far too long, and she knew that. She had been curled up by the fire, bored out of her mind before she began to stretch out with a soft yawn, looking around then den to see who else might be about. She wanted to do something, even if it meant going outside in the stupid stupid cold. Her fur would thicken out as she grew, but for now, the chilling temperatures shook her to the core.

She spotted Fable, a mischievous smile on her features as she crept over to her sister and gave her a light nudge with her paw. Psst, Fable.” She stated before collapsing dramatically on her limbs and grinning at her sister. “Do ya wanna go outside and find some food?” Satire had been working on her stalking technique. Imagine if she could bring a rabbit or something home! Food just tasted so much better when she caught it herself, but she definitely did not want to go out alone.

Fable was staring outside of the den's entrance, her small tail wriggling to and fro. She was obedient, just like they all were, but there was one thing that could tempt her more than any other: food. From the moment Poem had brought them their first real meal, she'd been entranced. Unlike typical wolves who would feast and then go without for long periods of time, food was always on her mind. Fable liked to snack. Neither parent had expected such an appetite but they were happy to oblige her. Unfortunately they weren't anywhere to be found. The young girl turned as her sister nudged her, a grin spreading across her face at the invitation. "Oh yes, yes, yes!" She lurched to her paws quickly, so excited that she almost fell flat on her face. "Okay, let's hunt!" Fable gave her sister an affectionate nudge before scampering outside of the den and into the cold.

Ugh. The cold! She'd forgotten about that part. The wind was so, so strong today... almost enough to knock her over. But food! Fable steeled her nerves. She'd do it. For food. Checking over her shoulder for Satire again, Fable set her small nose to the ground and began to snuffle for a scent in the snow. Their parents had said this whole cold thing would be over by now. Why wasn't it? Poem and Sparhawk were right about everything.

At least Fable wasn’t Shae. Fable also was not a huge fan of the cold, at least not like her sister was, and Fable would not press her cold paws all over Satire’s cheeks. The allure of food seemed to draw her attention and pull her up, causing a grin to light Satire’s features and warmth to flood her soul. She nodded eagerly, her tail wagging vigorously as she nudged her sister back in an affectionate manner, following after her. The wind nearly knocked her over, and she dug her paws into the ground as the cold chilled her to the bone. The cold was just so stupid and she hated it. She knew she wasn’t really supposed to hate things, but she hated the stupid cold!

She just wanted the cold to disappear. Mama and Papa had promised, but maybe something had happened. Either way, Satire had to hope that it would end soon. She instantly started to put her nose to work, sniffing about as she tried to ignore the chilling consequences of leaving the safety of the den. “I thought I smelled a rabbit den over near the rapids the other day.” She explained to her sister as she motioned with her head. The sooner they hunted and caught food, the sooner they could return to eat it by the fire, safely tucked inside the nice warm den, maybe tucked up against their parents.

"Okaaay..." She murmured. They weren't really supposed to get too close to the rapids, but that was because the water was supposed to be water again and not ice. But everything was frozen! No matter where she looked, everything was covered in snow. Blah! "We'll just be really careful." The snow made sniffing things out so much harder than she'd thought it would be. Everything in the den smelled rich and earthy, smoky and alive. Outside it just smelled... like wet? Was wet a smell? Fable sneezed, a great big powerful sneeze that launched her back onto her butt right into the snow. Yelping from the cold, she launched immediately forward again and stumbled into Satire. "I'm sorry! It's just s-so cold!" This was a bad idea... but food. Food. Her mouth started to water. "Alright! Time to get really serious, I'm serious - really!" With a determined look on her face, Fable set about picking up the scent. Beneath all the wet and the cold she could just make out the light, musky scent of rabbit. Her tail stuck straight up like a victory flag. "I've got it! I've got it! This way!" And off she trundled, determined to fetch a tasty meal.

Satire didn’t really understand why they weren’t supposed to go near the rapids, but as far as she was concerned, they wouldn’t be getting too close so it would be fine, right? That was what she kept telling herself at least. “We’ll be super careful and no one will ever know we were close, right?” She asked her sister with a raised eyebrow, asking if she was willing to keep that secret. Leaving the den she felt the biting cold surrounding her and she shivered softly. She hated the cold. Hated it, but food had ultimately outweighed her need for the warmth that the den provided. Her sister sneezed and it caused her to jump, her fur bristling from the shock before she realized what had happened. “We’ll be super quick and then we can curl up for a nap by the fire.” She offered, hopeful that her sister would not bail on her.

She followed eagerly after her sister, a determined look on her own face as she also got serious. She bound off after her, following the scent. They could do this. They could do this. She didn’t want to come out in the bitter weather just to return with an empty stomach and probably a nasty cold. That sounded absolutely awful in her opinion. “I see it! I see it!” She called out when she spotted the creature, who had been alerted by their voice and bumbling behavior. “It’s running!”
