Dómari trotted back into the heart of the Vericona Plains after spying on a herd of bison near the northern border. There were about 20 animals, a few of which were young. They couldn't be older than a few weeks and would be ripe picking for the wolves and a boon in this lingering winter weather. However, the mothers would be protective of their young and could easily crush a wolf so Dómari had no desire to try for a young calf on his own. To do so would be asking for injury and he needed to keep himself in good shape in case Valhalla was attacked. He was sure someone else would be interested in joining him on a hunt. When he arrived back toward his den site he tipped back his head and howled for anyone that wanted to join him. He wasn't too worried if the bison heard him. They likely had already caught the scent of the wolves in the area. "Speech" |

The snow crunched softly underneath his dark paws as his nose hovered over the frozen ground, following the trail of a hare. It was finally spring but the cold weather still did not want to release its grasp on the land, luckily his winter fur still clung to his pelt and did not shed like it normally would have with warmer weather. Prey was still having a hard time and was sparse so Drachen decided to stay within Valhalla indefinitely with the Spirit's blessing to help hunt and patrol the borders. He did not mind at all and enjoyed his life here and with each passing day, the plains were becoming more like home to him. He was about to close in on the hare he had been tracking when a howl called out, asking for a hunting partner and Drachen came to a stop and perked his dark ears. He did not recognize the voice but he was always game for a hunt so the Vaekhal male abandoned the hare's trail and made his way swiftly towards the fading howl.
A older male stood by a den and by the way the male was seemingly waiting for someone, Drachen assumed that this was the one who called for a hunt. His long dark legs carried him up to the other male and Drachen dipped his dark face in greeting. "Hello, I'm Drachen. You looking for a hunting partner?" His hushed tones left his tan lips in a foggy breath from the cold. There was a faint hint of bison on the male's pelt and Drachen assumed that they would be their target. It was a bold choice, especially if it was just the two of them but Drachen was up for the challenge. He wouldn't mind adding a bison pelt to his den to help keep it warm with the savage cold still clinging to the land, maybe one day soon he would even make a cloak or leather armor from one. But for now, the pack needed meat to fill their bellies and that just what Drachen intended to do.

Dómari kept alert, ears standing straight up as he waited, hoped, that someone would care to join him and answer his call. He didn't have to wait long before an unfamiliar male arrived. Dómari knew enough to know that this was one of their new members though he had yet to really get to know the man. He smiled congenially. "Hello Drachen. Yes, there a herd of bison calving on the northern end of the plains. I was thinking we could pick one off. My name is Dómari. Here, they lie this way." Eager to get started and as prone to motion as always, Dómari took off toward the northern portion of the plains, moving swiftly at first then slowing his pace as they neared the herd. He started to slink down into the grass before settling in one spot. He gestured toward an older cow on the fringes of the herd that had her head bent over a soggy, new born calf. "What do you think about that calf. I can distract the mother if you can make the kill." "Speech" |

He was met with a friendly smile and the male was quick to get to the point, telling him that he was interested in hunting a herd of bison in the northern plains. Drachen nodded as the male gave his name and committed it to memory before falling into step with Dómari as the hunter led him to the location of the bison. Drachen quickly and seamlessly followed suit when Dómari crouched down and settled into the frozen grass beside the grey toned male. Oceanic blue eyes scanned the herd swiftly to look for any weak individuals before landing on the calf that the other male pointed out. It had to been only minutes old, its fur still wet and steaming in the frigid air as its mother stood over it and tried to lick it clean. The female bison looked older, her muscle tone on the thinner side that came with the beginning of old age and the calf was still not up of its feet yet. It would be an easy kill. "Yes, looks like the calf still hasn't found its feet, I can kill it quickly with the mother out of the way..." he replied, his deep voice hushed, his blue eyes flicking to his hunting partner for a brief moment before settling on his target. Already his heart was beating faster as adrenaline started to course through his veins at the anticipation of the hunt. Silently, almost feline like, he shifted his weight and legs so that he was prepared to quickly launch forward towards their target. Drachen then gave the subtlest of nods with his tan snout to signal that he was ready to begin whenever Dómari was.

Dómari eyed the rest of the herd for a moment, taking stock of the lookouts. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, they wanted to scare the bison and get them to run so that other, healthier animals didn't come to the rescue. That's all he needed, to get gored in the butt in front of one of their new members. Drachen agreed to the plan and Dóm readied himself. His hind legs bunched beneath him and then he sprang forward toward the bison, snarling as he ran. The nearest bison panicked and fled, creating a domino affect as more peeled away. The mother bison nudged hurriedly at her calf as it bleated and struggled. Dómari dove in, snapping at the cow's face. She thrashed her head and charged him. He quickly spun away, trying to lure her away from the calf. "Speech" |
