I don't wanna talk about it

Mojito was still mostly avoiding Asla, he had made sure he was available for his duties and to tend any wounds that needed tending but beyond that he mostly did his best to keep busy away from her. Right now he was trying to fill up on Boneset, with spring proving to not be much of a reprieve from the chill of winter it would be helpful to have more herbs ready in case of sickness.
Since Boneset grew nearer to the ocean that meant he could stay away from where the majority of the pack congregated, and by extension when Asla was more likely to be found, without guilt. Hoa was grazing lazily nearby, further in towards the mainland and letting Mojito root around for undamaged stems, the cold had made maintaining his stores a little rough but he wasn't doing too bad for himself, managing a few intact stems that she could add to his stash of usable herbs.

"Aslatiel"
So she'd almost died. That definitely happened. She had a few cuts and bruises to show for it, but her knee was what bothered her the most. With her newfound position, Aslatiel thought it might be best to seek out a healer and with her aunt gone, Mojito was her choice. She imagined that he'd been avoiding her. When they did see one another, he was friendly, but standoffish. She just wanted him to sort it out already because she really missed her friend. Asla didn't have too many of those and without Mo, she was down to one. There was a bit of a limp in her step as she made her way towards where she thought he might be. Unfortunately, she was wrong and he wasn't there, so she had been forced to walk even further and seek out his scent. In the end, she found him by the ocean. Great. Asla was avoiding water like the plague after her recent experience. The liquid had it out for her, she knew it. Coming forward, Asla smiled at Mo as though there wasn't a rift between them. "Hey, Mojito. I was hoping you might help me with something." Grey ears tucked momentarily and her gaze turned sheepish. "I, uh...had a bit of a run in with a landslide and my leg was trapped. My knee is pretty sore and I was wondering if you might look at it for me?" The young woman gave her head a little tilt, ears perking again as she waited for an answer. |

Mojito's heart nearly lept into his throat when he heard her call, he swallowed the lump in his throat and turned around to glance at his friend. His gaze dropping to the leg she'd indicated and he nodded, gesturing for her to follow him a bit further inland, she said it was in pain and there wasn't an open wound immediately visible to him but if the skin was broken he wanted to avoid getting any sea water into it.
"Hoa!" He called, the sheep trotting towards him, those unnerving horizontal pupils flashing between Mojito and Asla in an unspoke question. Mojito gave a soft nod, it was alright. "Can you take these back to the den, and fetch me some dandelions, preferably with the most intact roots." He paused for a moment and separated a single boneset plant from his pile then pushed the rest towards his companion and turned back towards Asla, trying to keep his anxiety from his face, though there was a slight shake to his movements until he took a deep breath to steady himself.
Mojito began to methodically strip some leaves from the stem of the small white flower. "What exactly were you doing to find yourself trapped in a landslide?" He asked, trying to keep his tone casual and conversational while he focused on trying not to tear the leaves too badly. Once he had a small pile he was satisfied with he extended a paw and nodding towards her injured leg. "I'm going to need to check the affected area, probably poke and prod a little, let me know if it hurts too much but it's the best way to make sure you didn't break anything so I'm sorry for any discomfort."

"Aslatiel"
Ears perked at the movement of the sheep. She didn't know that Mo had a sheep. That proved just how disconnected they currently were. She missed their friendship more than she was willing to admit. Externally, everything was okay. Everything was always okay. The mask slid into place. Internally, it made her pretty sad. As the sheep moved away to do Mojito's bidding, Aslatiel followed the floppy eared man wherever he wanted to go. His question brought her tall grey ears tucking sheepishly for a moment. "I, uh... Well. Naiche and I chased a bear to the falls. We were trying to steer it clear of Abaven lands." That had been the easy part. Running a bear off was cake. The worst part came after. "When we were going back down, there was so much ice. Anyway," she said nonchalantly, "The ice gave way and I was crushed under ice and snow. The area where I was trapped started filling up with water. Almost died. Leg though, crushed under rocks." Was she rambling? She felt like she was rambling. "If Naiche hadn't been there, I'd have died." Mo's concern at hurting her was sweet. He had always been sweet. Aslatiel smiled her confident smile. "It'll be okay. I'm alive. Pain is nothing." With that being said, she stretched out her left hind leg, the knee being the area of pain. |

Naiche again, he hadn't failed to notice how much time she spent with the man. He told himself it was because he was a warrior and Asla was his reaper, it was a convenient lie, one he was willing to buy into right now, even as he knew it was just a lie. Asla hadn't been precious about their relationship, had told him plainly that she wasn't going to be able to be a one wolf woman... and so he at least knew what to expect... but that didn't make it any easier to swallow, so he'd lie to himself for now.
He nodded and walked over to her injured leg, gently moving his paws over it, pressing harder in some areas as he moved, and watching her carefully for any signs of extreme pain, though if she was able to hobble around on it she probably hadn't broken anything. At the very least nothing was out of alignment enough to be felt, internal bruising was likely, maybe even on the bone, which was painful but it wasn't anything he'd have to set at least. "Well no chasing bears around for a little bit alright?" Not that he expected that to stop her from injuring herself, she seemed like an injury magnet. "Well it seems like your leg's not broken, but you should avoid putting too much pressure on it, you've likely still done internal damage and it'll be easier to exacerbate your injury or even cause a new one while your body is trying to repair itself." Which leg had it been that had been broken that time... he suddenly wasn't sure, it was hard to think on anything but how he'd felt that day.
"I know this'll probably fall on deaf ears but you should really try to take a bit more care not to get hurt if you can help it, broken bones are often prone to being broken again, and sometimes are worse each time unless given a chance to properly and fully rebuild before putting stress on them." Which he knew full well was unlikely to happen, Asla was nothing if not a girl on the move. He heard grass rustling and spotted Hoa approaching.
"I'll be giving you something for the inflammation and you can take the boneset leaves to help with any pain, only one leaf a day." He said moving back around to in front of his friend and giving her a pointed look. "You do not want to overdose on boneset. And I'm going to encourage you to avoid being on your leg as much as possible. If the swelling or pain gets worse come find me, don't ignore it." He moved back towards her leg and gestured for Hoa to bring the dandelions over to him.

"Aslatiel"
Mojito began to inspect her injured knee. She didn't think it was too serious, but she wanted to get it checked out just in case. She was important now. She had an important position within the pack. No longer was she just the warlords daughter. She was The Reaper. A reaper couldn't be some injured ninny. How could she even hold her position while injured? It would be difficult. Thankfully there were few in the pack with the skill and experience to challenge her. Her friends words brought her back from her thoughts and Aslatiel laughed softly. "Yes, sir. No bears." He then explained what he thought was wrong with her knee. Yes, she knew that she would have to take it easy until the knee healed. Really, she wouldn't have gone out and injured herself had the bear not been heading from their lands to Abaven's. If they ran a bear into Abaven lands and someone had been injured or killed, that would have reflected poorly on them. What horrid allies they would have been. Mojito's next words brought Asla's ears tucking back against her skull for a moment. "Mo, I always listen to everything that you have to say." Did he think that she didn't care? He was one of her favorite wolves. The only reason that she appeared to chipper was to spare him worry. She knew that he needed time away from her and so she was giving him that. Their interactions were cheery ones, though she was usually injured. Her rejection was still too fresh for anything more serious, she felt. In a way, she was trying to protect him from herself. When he implied that she wouldn't listen to his instruction, however... "I'll be careful. I promise." The cream and grey lady opened her mouth to say something else but the sheep returned with items in its flat teeth. Asla listened as Mo gave instruction. She simply nodded as he told her about Boneset and settled to the side a bit as he moved back to her knee. The girl's striped tail swished slowly in the snow as she watched her friend at work. Sadness welled within her. She could tell that he was still in some internal battle. If she could take that from him, she would. There was no way that she could make him happy. Not when she loved Indigo. Not when Naiche was living in her den. Mojito deserved happiness. He deserved one wolf to focus all of their love and attention on him. Aslatiel, though she adored the floppy eared man, was not capable of being that wolf. She couldn't give him what he deserved. A frown drawing her brows together, Aslatiel leaned forward, placed a soft kiss between Mo's horns, then dropped to her side in the snow, looking away from him. He could work on her knee just as well if she was laying down, she hoped. |
