The trick with the tripwire had worked so well that Chimera was ready to try some other devices to see if they worked as efficiently. Since Viper had become his unofficial hunting partner, he had Gem go and invite her to hunt with him again. Today they were after smaller game. The tri-toned dire knew that there were forest antelope called Duiker that would be perfect for his trap. Once Viper joined him, Chimera nodded to the earthen woman and started off towards the forest. He had the same rope around his neck that they'd used with the oxen. It hadn't been beaten up too bad. He intended to make a series of snares. When they ran the tiny herd through, the little antelope would be lifted into the air and dispatched quickly and easily. Or at least that was the plan. In the forest, Chimera settled down and gave Viper a coil of rope. It had been braided for the oxen, but now they needed to unbraid it. The antelope were terribly small and the strength of the braided line would be overkill. With more rope, they could catch more duikers. Laying on his stomach, Chi began to unbraid the line that they would soon be using. "Chimera Quill Klein"

When one of Chimera’s mastiffs came to greet her, she immediately understood the invitation to join her and unite with Chimera. Chimera gave a silent greeting as per usual before pressing on and Viper would go forward after him. Into the forest, he gave her some of the rope they had previously used on their last endeavor, and she would only glance to mimic what he had wanted to do with the braided rope. She settled at an angle in front of him, pulling the braids out quickly. She laid out the pieces of rope that were now separated from its stronger hold, looking to Chimera to see what would need to be done next. Walk "Talk" Think

Quickly, efficiently and quietly, Viper did what needed to be done. The pair of wolves had the ropes prepared in no time. That worked just fine for Chimera. Coiling some of the ropes, he stepped forward, brow furrowed slightly. The dire man then placed the coil around Viper's neck, stepping back to see if it was too heavy for her. When she didn't topple, he placed the next coil of ropes around his own neck. Now they needed to set up their trap. Moving through the forest, Chi's working eye scanned the area, trying to find the best place to set the trap. Most ideal would be a chute just like their last hunt, but something a little more narrow with trees lining the sides. With a plethora of game trails to choose from, it didn't take him long to choose a location. Unloading the ropes onto the ground, Chimera set about preparing the trees that he would be using. He snapped off branches that would be in the way and would use them for stakes to hold the snares in place once they were ready. "Chimera Quill Klein"

Chimer’s monstrous body over her wouldn’t frighten her in the slightest. She was never one for the personal space of others and also the same for her self. So when Chimer faced her, her gaze moved to his face as if he was about to speak. He placed the uncrafted ropes around her neck which she would look at over her shoulder, and then continue on to follow his lead. Viper had never placed snares before, so she was a bit more in focus with everything Chimera was doing. Peeking over so she could mimic and hopefully do it right the first time. Viper was at least pretty smart in that kind of sense opposed to all other things like breaking rules and running into trouble. She placed a snare at trees that were an equal distance that Chimera had chose with his, breaking off the branches near the bottom, she wouldn’t notice he kept some to set the snares, but that was okay because the sticks were laying at the base of each of her trees when she would notice. Walk "Talk" Think

Chi noted that Viper was eyeing his work so he worked slowly on his first snare, tying the rope up into the tree and bending the branch before placing the stake. The loop at the bottom, once triggered, would snap upwards and tighten around the legs of their prey, jerking them off of their feet and into the air. Once satisfied that Viper had gotten the basics, Chi moved faster. Snare after snare was placed until he ran out of little ropes. Eight in all, though he believed he'd given Viper less rope due to her size. Carefully, so as not to trigger the snares, Chi placed leaves and dusted snow over the loops to hide them from view. If they ran a herd through there, he didn't think they would notice, but he didn't want to chance it. "Chimera Quill Klein"

Viper watched and copied Chimera, a little harder to get the hand of compared to the trip wire she had crafted with both him and Hattori. She was much slower than Chimera, but that wasn't an issue given that he had given her less snares to set up. She tied the ropes up in the trees around the branches, noting the length she needed for the snare on the ground. Seeing as Chimera needed a stake for his, she would look around the ground for one of the branches she broke that fit it's use well. She looked crooked at Chimera a moment as he covered the traps to hide them, but it was pretty self explanatory as to why. So she too would do the same, careful not to step on either hers or Chimera's though with less confidence she wouldn't and instead mess them up. She approached Chimera again, ready to start their onslaught. His dog companions were probably eager to get on with it too. Walk "Talk" Think

With Viper having finished her snares, there was only one thing left to do: find their prey. Gem and Meg had gone off to scent the tiny deerlike creatures. Chi knew that they were here. He'd seen them and eaten them before. Twelves snares. They had pretty good odds, he thought. Hopefully they would catch enough to take back for a nice meal. A mass of midnight fur appeared on the snowy horizon. Meg was letting them know that they'd found the herd of small ungulates. Giving a nod to Viper, Chimera eased into a quiet lope. The pair of wolves curled back through the forest, coming out behind the group of grazing beasts. They were working hard at scraping away snow and ice from the frigid, wilted grass beneath. The creatures were smaller than Viper and the dire boy dwarfed them. He had no doubt that they would flee at the slightest sound. With Meg on one side and Gem on the other, the sisters were ready to hem their prey in and run then straight through the ropey gauntlet that the two wolves had created. Without another word, Chi started the chase. "Chimera Quill Klein"

With the confirmation of the herd, both Chimera and Viper would go forward quickly, ready to spot their prey and get their plan into action. Viper slowed as they approached the herd, the quiet sound of snow under them would frighten the tiny creatures. Her gaze only moved to Chimera for a brief moment, as if waiting for the cue. Well enough, Viper would move around the little deer creatures just as she did the Oxen to keep them in line, they were much faster than the large beasts though so it wouldn’t be easy. She would speed up and snap when needed, but they had to get them in line with their trap before anything else Walk "Talk" Think

Chimera launched himself over a small drift and out into the open where the duikers were feeding. The lot of them jumped into the air and instantly started to run. With Meg, Gem and Viper running along, the hunt should have been a cinch. The little deer juked and tried to outmaneuver their hunters, but the canines were wily and knew just what to do. Evenly spaced behind their masters, Meg and Gem kept control of the back of the herd while Chimera and Viper controlled the front. Just a little further now and they would have their prize. Either that, or they would learn that they were both shit at making snares. Teeth snapped at the heels of one straying buck and it kicked back, one little hoof catching Chimera on the lip. Fury surged through the man and he couldn't help himself. Leaping, paws outstretched, he took down the buck, teeth sinking into its screaming throat. The rest of the duikers ran straight through the chute and as the tri-colored brute killed the buck, he could hear the pleasant snapping of snares and the squealing of startled deer. "Chimera Quill Klein"

As they continued, Viper would hear the snap of the tiny deer's hoof on Chimera's face, and while she wouldn't have noticed either way, as she turned to the quiet crack, her paw would pull itself into one of the snares. Luckily they had the herd running through their trap tunnel, and the sound of the snare grabbing the deer would go off one by one. The mastiffs kept them in line best they could while Chimera had his revenge on the buck that didn't miss it's shot, and Viper was pulling frantically at the snare she had caught herself into. But she wouldn't go dumb over it, after pulling a few times, she grabbed the rope by the tree and snapped it through her teeth. The snare dragged behind her as she looked up at the deer that were flailing around her. It seemed they had a good lot to take back to Ashen, Hattori would be pleased. Of course, they would take their own share for the work. Walk "Talk" Think

His lip was split and bleeding, but the perpetrator was dead. Chi looked up just in time to see Viper jerked off of the ground by one of the snares. She quickly figured out how to bite her way out of it, however. The dogs were making short work of the flailing, floating antelope and Chi moved forward to help. Once all of their prey were lifeless, Chimera went about typing them together with the very snares that had helped to end their lives. They'd managed to catch six of them. Six out of twelve was fine luck indeed. With the small creatures tied together in pairs, each of the wolves could carry two, though Viper might have a bit of trouble with her smaller stature. Chi hefted the tied antelope onto the backs of each dog, then moved to help Viper get herself situated. He wondered if she might have hurt her leg when the snare snatched her up, be he figured she would say something if she was indeed injured. With their catch dead and ready for transport, Chimera led the way back to Ashen, though at a slower pace than when they'd come.
