Ever since his encounter with the sabre toothed cats Hattori had been ever vigilant in his patrols, forgoing general pack activities and even tending to his children all to make sure everything was at it ought to be.  Perhaps it was overkill and even negligent on his end, but the thought of allowing even one cat to shed Ashen blood bothered him far more than he could put into words. The man's death did not haunt him, he'd seen strangers die before but he supposed the same could not be said for his children. He had not comforted them, hadn't found it within him to do so and thus the responsibility laid at Venom's paws. A role she no doubt filled far better than he could ever dream.

He slowed to a walk as he skirted around the edges of the Shrine. It was still unseasonably cold and the wind carried a lingering bite but it was a touch warmer than the season before and some improvement was better than none. He let out a sigh, his birthday looming upon him and whilst he didn't care to celebrate such affairs he figured he ought to, if nothing else, take a moment to reflect on how much had changed over the years. From Shinobi to Shogun, much had changed but his feelings for the most part stayed the same. Out of sheer stubbornness, probably.
